Okay, let's not talk politics.
I'm going to Australia, I like holidays. Do you like holidays? Where are you going and when?
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:10, 154 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
I like holidays.
Doubtful if I'll be having one this year though.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:11, Reply)
WORKSHY BASTARD!
Did you have a nice fish pie?
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:13, Reply)
See previous thread :)

(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:15, Reply)
what a question to ask a man on a first date
very forward
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:16, Reply)
Fucking hell you're a bundle of laughs today, Davvo
You should get off your arse and get a job. That'd cheer you up.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:14, Reply)
Nothing would please me more.
I have about £15k of my redundancy left, which means that technically I can afford a holiday. However, if I'm still out of work in 3 months time, then that will be used to clear the last of my debts which will all but wipe out the savings I have. So I'm not going to spunk it up the wall on something unnecessary just yet.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:18, Reply)
Why don't you invest your remaining redundancy cash in Chompy's landfill mining scheme?
This time next year, Davvo...
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:23, Reply)
You should've mentioned LUNCH
People like talking about this particular meal.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:15, Reply)
I have been fed and watered now
This is a good thing
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:23, Reply)
Good
Now make with the internet funny.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:24, Reply)
Oh and I usually go to France
for a number of reasons including proximity and price.
Probably in July.
They're ok.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:16, Reply)
I'm going to Hideout Festival with my brother.
Other than that, nada.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:22, Reply)
I don't know what that is, but since you're going to it
I'm pretty safe in assuming it's shit.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:24, Reply)
You're not cool enough to know what it is.

(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:25, Reply)
Having had a look at the line up
I can safely say it is not for me.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:27, Reply)
I've just looked at the lineup.
It's fucking rubbish/I recognise hardly anyone. Oh dear.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:27, Reply)
I can recommend both FourTet and Caribou
But they are DJing rather than performing, so I don't know how good that will be...
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:31, Reply)
SBTRKT and Annie Mac are the only ones I actually like out of all of them.
I'm only going cos it's my little brother's first time at this sort of thing. I'm the chaperone init.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:33, Reply)
Haha
That should keep him out of any scrapes then.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:33, Reply)
I'm a pillar of the community I'll have you know.
A horrible one, admittedly.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:52, Reply)
We are off to Menorca in June
and also to Centreparcs in Penrith at the end of the month. Both of these fill me with GLEE!

Holidays. Same shit, different location.
Might go camping, then it'd be different shit, different location. I love camping.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:24, Reply)
I'm going to Northumbria, Edinurgh, hopefully New York and Yorkshire.
Although what on earth possessed me to think spending the first week of April in Northumbria was a good idea, I am not sure. I don't like cold and wet.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:25, Reply)
You'd be surprised, Scarpo.
Yesterday it was a balmy 5 degrees up here, and no snow whatsoever. Today is much the same.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:27, Reply)
Better than down here at the moment then.
I'm actually really looking forward to it. Can't wait to go walking along the coast for a start.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:31, Reply)
It was bastard freezing on Saturday night though
Proper "AYAAAAAAHHHHHH" wind
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:35, Reply)
Oh hell yeah.
We were at a gig in Bebside (Star Spangled Chest Wigs - if you ever get a chance to see them, do; they're fucking brilliant). It's fair to say that nipping out for a smoke was rationed somewhat.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:37, Reply)
I was out with the dog and had to full on burqa myself up with a scarf

(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:38, Reply)
I did an 8 mile run on saturday morning
when I got back I got laughed at for looking so red and blotchy.

The morning wasn't too bad
The night was. If Mrs Cow isn't gyming this evening I'll be out for 5-6k
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:42, Reply)
Nice one.
I'm only doing 3 miles tonight.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 14:02, Reply)
I did three miles this morning.
Fast ones, mind.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 14:04, Reply)
Mine will probably be cautious due to the amount of snow on the ground.

(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 14:13, Reply)
Which bit?
We're only about four miles from the coast.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:35, Reply)
We'll be staying near Warkworth, I think.
Or maybe Amble. They were the last two choices we came down to and I can't remember which one we went for. They are basically the same area though aren't they?
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:39, Reply)
About 5 mins away I think
We stayed in Amble last year. It was nice
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:40, Reply)
Fairly close together, about 2 miles apart.
Warkworth is the nicer of the two though. Very pretty, with the added bonus of having a fucking castle overlooking it.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:42, Reply)
The castle is fucking excellent!

(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:43, Reply)
That's where we are going then definitely. It definitely had a castle.

(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:43, Reply)
There was a nice Italian restaurant in Amble
and a fairly good Chinese takeaway too. I'll try and dig the names out
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:44, Reply)
I did the grant for that restaurant.
It's called Zecca.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:45, Reply)
At the top of the main street?
Sounds right that. It was very nice
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:45, Reply)
Think so, yeah.
It's in a disused bakery, the grant was for renovation costs.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:53, Reply)
Also if you get the chance to go up to Bamburgh, do.
It'll be about a half hour drive up the coast and worth it just for the castle.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:44, Reply)
Will do, thanks.
At the moment, more than almost anything, I am looking forward to going to Alnwick to vist Barter Books.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:52, Reply)
I was just going to suggest you go there.
It's fucking massive.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:53, Reply)
It was in the 'Twenty most beautiful bookshops in the world' list that was published recently
Although I have since found out that they are responsible for the popularity of 'Keep Calm And Carry On', which is a black mark, but it looks good enough for me to forgive them that.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:57, Reply)
Well, they are that
but only due to the finding of said poster in a stockroom, I believe.
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 14:07, Reply)
who the fuck doesn't like holidays?
so far this year: barcelona for a hen-do, california for a 2 week girly holiday, caribbean for christmas. and maybe bristol for a LOLBASH.

more the abduction and murder of their young child...
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:30, Reply)
Well they shouldn't have fucking done it then.

(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:31, Reply)

if only there were some kind of council you could seek advice from
www.environment-agency.gov.uk/netregs/businesses/construction/62371.aspx
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:45, Reply)
I'm pretty sure they can't do anything about construction noise during the day.

(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 13:59, Reply)
i'm pretty sure you're totally wrong about that. as quoted below.
however, if the noise is perfectly reasonable and is not a nuisance and you are just being a whinging little pussy, then yeah. they can't do anything.

"If noise from your work is found to be causing a nuisance to the surrounding community, your local council can limit or even stop you from working. They can restrict:

the type of machinery you use
your working hours
noise levels emitted from your premises.
Failure to address a noise problem could result in legal action and a fine"
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 14:01, Reply)
My local council says they don't
www.barnet.gov.uk/pollution-control-noise.htm
(, Mon 6 Feb 2012, 14:15, Reply)
Also noise caused intermitantly over several weeks is not going to result in the council doing anything.
But it's still rather irritating having 5 minutes of loud buzzing every 20 minutes or so.

that's a v different thing. there is stuff you could do to force them if it is bad enough.

but i doubt it's that bad. you are just going to have to suck it up.

Otherwise, I'm quite ambivalent. As long as I have stuff to do. I can't be arsed with sitting around on a beach/by a pool or whatever.

Probably stay in the UK this summer. Maybe west coast of Scotland.

Hmm
Going on a mini holiday this weekend up to Aviemore with the uni ski club and half a ton of booze.

Later this year - Pamplona for the running of the bulls, and possibly France for a bit of cycling. I'm also going to be doing Land's End to John O'Groats by bike just after Easter.

If things go my way I'll be spending most of the summer in Cornwall on a kind of working holiday and most of the winter up at one of the Scottish ski resorts doing broadly the same thing.

So yeah, most of this year. I'm young, single and have no real ties at the moment. I intend to make the most of it.
