salmond will be wanting us to keep Glasgow next. probably think he can swap it for Mayfair
www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/video-sickening-racist-attack-glasgow-3158282

I was going to ask who is more to blame for racist beliefs, an individual or his family/society, but it seems a bit heavy for early morning. so - what do you think of buskers? musicians or annoying beggars? ever give them anything?

alt: so this summer is going to be the hottest on record, scientists say. REALLY?

altalt: go on then. best 3 breakfast items?
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 7:51, 118 replies, latest was 11 years ago)
APATHY REPLY
No, I give nothing to beggars of any form.
Alt: Yes, scientists REALLY do say this summer is going to be the hottest on record.
Altalt: Crisps, Rustlers Burger and a Toffee Crisp
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:09, Reply)
Bacon, egg, black pudding.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:09, Reply)
Rather than having a general opinion on all buskers (bit racist), I judge each on their individual merits.
I think it can brighten a place up if there is some nice music.
If they sound good, I will give them money.
It may not shock you to learn that I have been a busker myself and yes, I was good.

Alt: I think you are going with the media interpretation of what meteorologists have decided is likely using modelling systems.
It could probably still go either way, but we always insist on a prediction.

Did you play stairway to heaven?

No
I found that people gave more generously for well performed Beatles songs
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:41, Reply)
I used to like the Beatles, but now I find them horrifically twee and practically unlistenable.

They come from a different world now.
There's still magic in there for me
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:48, Reply)
I don't really like elvis or buddy holly etc
but it fascinates me to imagine all that being SO rebellious and ground breaking
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:59, Reply)
Precisely, you have to try to remember the context of the times.
It's interesting to see the crowd shots of Jimi Hendrix at Monterey - people were shocked beyond belief at what they had just witnessed.
These things are old hat to us now, but they had never happened before.

Maybe they read that long thread from last night, got all excited that OT was good again, and were disappointed that it's about 4 people recycling the same old shit.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:22, Reply)
There was a good old mix in that thread
It started with normal conversation and people behaving like they were nice or something.
Then there were a couple of lols.
Then rory and dozy did their tag team thing on placid.
Then we all ate some honey and went to bed.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:26, Reply)
I skim read it, looked pretty boring. Especially when I saw your name in the mix.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:27, Reply)

some buskers are alright
Quite a lot are artless wankoids though.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:33, Reply)
Anyone who is stupid enough not to at least question their parents beliefs is a moron. So a racist is to blame for their own beliefs.
Alt. Dunno, don't care
AltAlt CONTROVERSIAL BREAKFAST OPINION! Bacon is overrated, a good quality sausage wins. That with eggs and hogs pudding please.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:36, Reply)
As someone who hasn't eaten bacon in around 25 years*, as far as I can tell its main appeal lies in the smell.

*and clearly this makes mine a highly valid opinion.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:40, Reply)
I don't think it's possible to limit a good breakfast to only three items. I need fried bread. I need sausages. I need mushrooms. I need hogs pudding. I need bubble & squeak. I need grilled tomatoes.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:42, Reply)
you need a kick in the cock

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:51, Reply)
This is very true.
This is my favourite breakfast at the moment....

Jack's Breakfast
2 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, mushrooms, hog's pudding, hash browns, grilled tomato, fried bread and baked beans, all served with toast, butter and preserves
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:50, Reply)
mushrooms on toast are the only edible things in that list
and even then, they are better in a salad than fried
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:54, Reply)
what no:

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:57, Reply)
Sounds good. Not a fan of hash browns particularly - I'd swap for bubble & squeak if possible.

(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:57, Reply)
I dunno
theres a café round here that does fantastic hash browns they are more of a rosti (sp) than those vile triangle things that shit places sell
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:58, Reply)
unfortunately PJ a lot of people arent that bright
it is often easier to assume the characteristics of your family etc.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:57, Reply)
Is that white pudding?
Bit fucking good, if so.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 9:26, Reply)
Never paid a busker in my life, although the closest I've been to doing so was for a one man band,
I rather like Glasgow though, few cracking bars there.

Morning all
I think an individual is exposed to racism through family/friends

Buskers can be really good. There are a couple in Northumberland St in Newcastle who really knock out a good tune. On the flip side, there's a gyppo woman who constantly plays 3 notes on an accordian over and over again all day who I'd happily set on fire.

Alt:
Probably a late one, yes

3 breakfast items.
That's not a breakfast. At best it's half a breakfast. Realistically a third of a breakfast. You need two meets and a form of eggs as a base. Then a potato based product. A form of tomatoes and blood based pudding. There is then a minimum requirement for some fried fungus and you better not leave out a bread course or they'll be bloody murder.

In short, stupid question.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 8:59, Reply)
I said the BEST three!
your list is all wrong. throw it out and get me a glass of cranberry or smooth not from concentrate fresh orange. if it's after 11, maybe a pain au chocolat.
(, Wed 19 Feb 2014, 9:00, Reply)
What? That sounds like a magazine article.
If I was to shout "WHERE'S MY BREAKFAST, BITCH!" And you turned up with all that shit I'd knock you out.

Exactly.
I am not advocating it for breakfast everyday. If you are not having that then the other acceptable breakfasts are porridge, weetabix or toast. All with tea. Not coffee. Tea.

Veggie haggis is where they take the internal organs from a cabbage and stuff them in to the skin of an onion
Veggie black pudding is made from draining the blood from a beetroot.

Serious answer
I grew up in Cornwall. For every 1000 people, 977 are White. The school I went too had only one non white kid there. My grandparents were what I call ignorant racists, no malice or actual prejudice, but if they saw a black person whilst out shopping they would call their mates to tell them of this unusual occurrence. My best friend was a massive racist, he emigrated to Australia where he fits in just fine. A lot of the people round here are very working class and use racist terms without thinking, I usually put this down to the fact that no-one is around to be offended. Chinese people are referred to as chinks, anyone with light brown skin is a paki including the Turkish people that run the local kebab shop. Black people are either coons, nignogs or coloureds. My mother in law thinks that coloureds is a perfectly acceptable way to refer to black people, again, no malice or prejudice, just ignorance. HOWEVER, it is getting better there are 4 black people to every 977 white people in Cornwall but thats probably 4 times more than 20 years ago and ignorant racism is on the decline so I agree that upbringing and social conditioning can and do play a part. But my sister isn't a racist and she was bought up surrounded by racists, mind you, she believes in God.
