Just been down to Cockfosters, I picked myself up
- My tablets
- Some beigails, chopped liver, cream cheese'n'chives, avacardo, corabi, lemon, spring onions
- All the chicken thighs they had left in the butchers, skin on, bone off. £10's worth.
- Fags, Malteaster Chocolate Bar and a lighter.
I'm gonna have a cheap month this month, gonna just make stuff instead of getting take-aways, and try and cut down on the taxis too. Anyone used to/used-to-be being povo who can give me some pointers? I reckon Mince Meat is a good starting point.
This doesn't really warrent a new thread but you know, it's the evening and all that so a new one is due.

Make your own burgers, cheap, easy and you can stick all sorts of interesting stuff in them. Like YM.
Black pepper and Marmite is a good combo.

I had liver for lunch. I love a bit of offal.
Fillet steak for supper though. Off a proper dirty old beast from The Proper Butcher. None of your flaccid supermarket fillet.

I like tripe, but don't really see it much.
Edit, try cutting down on the fags too.

tripe is the one bit of a beast I'm not keen on
there used to be a butcher in Wigan market who sold nothing but tripe ... several different sorts and they all tasted of cow shit

And? I find it can be a bit bland, but with a bit of flavour chucked at it, it's ok.

I'm with you on that, might do calv's liver one night, that's proper good.
I'm with you on the 'real butcher is better' thing too. I hate that the supermarkets ran most of them out town

I'm a povvo.
When it comes to cheap food falafel is your friend. I make a big bowl of mix on a Sunday afternoon that does three dinners for two of us over the week and costs pennies. The most expensive bit is the pittas.

Chicken thighs are really versatile
They make the best curries. Cook for the freezer if you can, make big batches of stuff and freeze in portions. Those double-seal bags from Ikea make good containers, just wait until the food's cool, put in the bag and freeze - takes up less room.
From a povvo pint of view - cut out the taxis, cut down the fags and drink. You'd be surprised how little you can live on a month - I had to.

You're spot on on Chicken Thighs. Nandos does them now and they're the best thing they do - along with the nandos chicken livers

You tried those Galaxy Caramel Eggs? They're lush
The caramel is more like a chocolate with caramel texture. I'm all over malteaster bunnies too; mum gave me a lift today on the way back from cockfosters so I bought her one with a packet of fags.
Really can't stand that advert though with the cupcakes.

Porridge in the morning
It's much cheaper than cereal/toast/whatever and it's very filling.
Buying veg in bulk at the market and making your own soup is good too.

Parridge sounds like a good idea, you can do it in the microwave too.
The trouble with market veg is that it only lasts like 3-4 days, doesn't store well at all, but it's _much_ nicer and cheaper

Mushrooms, lentils, chickpeas (dried) rice and spices are great staples.
Frozen vegetables in bulk are good value. Use your several hundred takeaway containers you have lying around to store leftovers for another day. Aldi and Lidl aren't actually that much cheaper if you're only buying cheap food so just go to the closest supermarket.

Cos whenever I buy them the loose ones look battered to shit and those in boxes have 5mm of water in the bottom
and even if you take them out of the box soon as you're home they still go off

Make a big curry or a chilli.
Make a big batch of soup freeze it for lunch.
Slow cook something like a beef bourginion or the innards of a steak and ale pie.
Swap prostitutes for masturbation.

I'll do myself a meat/tomarto sauce and freeze that.
Then I can just add ingredients as I use it to make things like Bouboti, Lasagnia, Chili etc

Should prolly do something like that.
The ultimate hungover povvo meal is marmitey pasta.
Just mix marmite, butter and a spoonful of the pasta water and chuck it over the pasta. Add parmesan (or cheddar) to serve.
