Dead innit?
Alt: I think my summer festival work is pretty much set in stone now, are you lot planning on attending any major concerts or festivals over the summer?

Altalt: dunno, something about drugs.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 9:52, 166 replies, latest was 9 years ago)
i normally go to quite a few gigs a year and to something vanilla like v-fest or the big chill
but actually nothing booked as yet this year. hmm. got some nice holidays booked for the summer though. cotswolds with some old schoolfriends in may, mallorca with some law friends in june, different part of mallorca with the family in august, hopefully barbados at christmas. all good.

altalt: rugs? we need a new one, the budgies have pecked the hell out of the old one, stupid feathery little twats.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 9:57, Reply)
Ok, I assume you attend V at the Chelmsford site, I usually work at the stafford site....
So, are all the punters there grim as a fuck too?
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:02, Reply)
I went to V there in 2001
It was rather entertaining as there was about 15 of us
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:09, Reply)
V is easily the grimmest shitfest ever.
Dull mor music, pissed teen pricks, early curfews, shit food

I hope it's more entertaining as a worker than as a punter
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:27, Reply)
It's a pain in the arse to be absolutely fair.
It was the first time I've ever seen a girl hike their skirt up and take a shit in the middle of a tent. It wasn't the last time I saw it either that weekend.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:35, Reply)
in a way it's doing a service to all the proper festivals
by keeping the dull bands and filthy plebs locked up

so thanks for that
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:38, Reply)
The place is amazingly grim.
When a colostomy bag is being thrown from person to person in the crowd, you just want Hitler to come back and refocus his efforts.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:43, Reply)
we just go for the day
drinking booze in the sun with your mates is always going to be a good day out, even if most of the bands are really blah. i was excited about the stone roses, but the years have not been kind. i did enjoy laughing at how shit ian brown was though. poor sod can't sing a note these days.

the beyonce put on a good show, but fucking hell love, just stand still and sing, stop making us wait in the rain whilst you change costumes for the 30th time in a 30 min set.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:43, Reply)
Anyone who performs costume changes during a festival set needs a kick in the cunt.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:46, Reply)
these days?

that's take that

His show in Manchester a few years back was one of my more pleasant days at work.

hahahaha, fucking incredible!

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:16, Reply)
ian brown has always sounded like that
I think I've heard him sing in tune once in about a dozen gigs and I'm pretty sure that was a fluke
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:54, Reply)
also ... there are a million places to drink beer with your mates
why would you choose one full of shit-lobbing chavs and crap music?
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:56, Reply)
just exactly how many accounts are you currently logged in with?

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:58, Reply)
some bits of it were good
we avoided the bits that were shit. something different to do innit.

we don't all sit on train platforms drinking whiskey out of a brown paper bag.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:04, Reply)
cool
you stick with the grimmer than all fuck shitfests and leave the decent festivals for the people who actually like festivals
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:06, Reply)
yep
quite happy to leave slobbing around in a tent and shitting in a bucket to ghastly old hippies and go somewhere decent if it's for the full weekend.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:10, Reply)
If that's the way you think it works, you need to get out more.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:28, Reply)
Or stay in more.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:29, Reply)
i'd rather travel and see other cultures
than a load of embarrassing old pricks in tie-dyed t-shirts and bumbags munching funny brownies and pretending they're still 18
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:10, Reply)
the only festival that sounds like is V

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:28, Reply)
Avoiding bits that are shit at V-Festival is a bit like avoiding bits of the sea that are wet.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:11, Reply)
There's nothing nicer than drinking beer in the sunshine with some friends
particularly if you're watching Beyoncé in the rain surrounded by chavs
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:14, Reply)
true, it's not the same as cramming 4 stinking people who haven't showered for 3 days into a tent and thinking drugs are cool when you're nearly 60, maaaaan

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:15, Reply)
k

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:20, Reply)
i've been to better things
but they were a decent enough couple of days out.

the food was properly shit though. how can you fuck up a microwave pizza that badly.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:14, Reply)
you're talking to festival veterans, pet
you're really on to a loser trying to persuade anybody that V is anything other than an appalling bland chavfest
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:17, Reply)
god, what an awful thing to be
try going on a real holiday/weekend away, not rolling around in a field convincing yourself that it's fun.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:27, Reply)
i think everyone felt quite sorry for you
we could have a whipround and try to get you a flight to somewhere decent.

prolly be one way though.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:28, Reply)
that's sweet, pet
but you're a only a lowly lawyer and you still get your holidays paid for by daddy
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:30, Reply)
bless, you have no idea

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:38, Reply)
oh do enlighten me
what does a property squabbler earn in London? 70k? 80k?

you're hardly Rockefeller, pet
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:53, Reply)
like i say
you have no idea.

stick to telling yourself that a semi with a seriously ugly garden is a good result in life.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:57, Reply)
under 70k then
should have done a real degree, eh?
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 13:08, Reply)
what, at the "university" of birmingham? lol
you're way out, pet. and you have no idea about other interests/background. now off you go, back to telling yourself that your little patch of scrubby grass is a "garden". at least you might convince yourself.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 13:11, Reply)
you really are easy

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 13:13, Reply)
not as easy as your wife

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 13:13, Reply)
i've been to chelmsford a few times
and to the isle of man one in the VIP bit, totally worth any loss in atmosphere for the fancy proper toilets. and free bar.

chelmsford punters are grim, but stafford is near stoke, and few places are grimmer than that.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:29, Reply)

Not these days, no
I loved me a festival or two back in the day though
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:09, Reply)
Might be going to one in Hyde park later in the year.
Finding people that can be arsed to go is getting harder and harder.

I'd love to go to Bestival again at some point.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:22, Reply)
Wouldn't mind going to Belladrum either.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:24, Reply)
prolly three or four depending on kids and ting
I'm half tempted by Latté-tude just cos I haven't seen Portishead in twenty years if i can stomach the middle class smugness

The only headline anywhere that I'm properly bothered about is SFA at Forgotten Fields but I'm away on holiday then.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:25, Reply)
I like Portishead.
But I'd only be interested in live stuff if most of it was off Dummy. Obvs.

Same as if I saw massive attack I'd basically want Mezzanine live with Safe From Harm chucked in.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:26, Reply)
they'll play crowd pleasers ... so prolly Dummy end-to-end

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:28, Reply)
People tell me Third is great if you stick with it.
I've got it but probably only listened to it 5 times tops.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:29, Reply)
There's a couple of excellent tunes on there that they could slip in between side A and side B of Dummy without many people noticing

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:30, Reply)
it's alright, just krautrock rather than hip hop

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:31, Reply)
Speaking of bands that changed tack and went shit, Kosheen.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:33, Reply)
I have the Koma & Bones remix of Hide U

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:34, Reply)
That used to be played near-constantly in the early 2000's on Kool FM Midlands.
Home of Dj Hazard and Spice.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:42, Reply)
their second album was just as good as Dummy
I saw portishead at T in the Park in 1998. Same year as Beastie Boys.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:30, Reply)
I would have gone to Joey Beacons but it's semi cancelled this year.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:28, Reply)
it was excellent last year but i suspect they lost loads of money

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:29, Reply)
they're doing a series of indoor gigs instead

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:32, Reply)
yeah ... looks a bit shit
it'd almost make sense if they were in the same place like Camden Crawl or sutin
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 10:40, Reply)
We're off to one with daughter, which I'm not really looking forward to.
Go I'm not mad on mixing drink, drugs and parenting,
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:42, Reply)
Yeah, it didn't do the McCann's any favours.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 11:48, Reply)
It's fine, as long as your kid is a good sleeper.
We took ours to Camp Bestival a couple of years ago with no problems.

it's always nice to get parenting advice from a spinster

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:10, Reply)
you should try taking advice from someone
yours might not turn out quite as weird and ugly as they are otherwise inevitably doomed to do
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:11, Reply)
is it upset creepy spinster obsessed with my kids o'clock already?

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:13, Reply)
This is 'family friendly'so the music shouldn'tbe too loud.

(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:12, Reply)
Yeah, don't be fooled by that - all it means is 'everyone will have their kids with them'
There are few concessions to noise.

Are you sure?
I've only ever had a great time on them.
(, Wed 8 Apr 2015, 12:10, Reply)
I'm pretty sure
I've been told this by numerous sanctimonious non-drug users on the internet and there's nobody better qualified to give advice than somebody with absolutely no direct experience
