I know what you mean. I looked at my Christmas Radio Times* last night and got a bit of a surprise when I saw that today was Christmas Eve!
It feels just like a normal working day, except for the pleasingly quiet roads. Well, other than the twat who refused to pass a tractor. But I overtook him, so that was OK.

If you can't find a colleague from whom you can borrow a Swiss Army knife, then get a large woodscrew (take one out of the furniture f you need to - you've got a screwdriver!), screw it into the cork, and pull it out with a pair of pliers, or lever it out with scissors or a suitably strong tool.
Or jam the screwhead in a door and pull carefully.

Marshall are very good but the problem is they're probably overpowered for your situation. A JCM800/900 half stack is your classic valve rock amp, admittedly they'll break up earlier than a Twin but will probably still be too loud.
Also I'd submit that JCM break up isn't that bluesy a disortion, it's *that* Marshall rock tone.
If I were you I'd look at the Fender Blues series (Junior and Deluxe), they're really nice little amps. The Junior is probably more what you need as it's 15W I think, the Deluxe at 40W might be a little on the loud side for smaller venues. I'd go for 15W and assume that any venue which is too large to be able to hear it (and that'll be bigger than you think) will have the ability to mic it up. You don't want to be one of those guitarists that sound engineers hate with a 100W valve amp that has to be turned up to 11 'to get my tone man', forcing us to rape the PA and everyone's ears to keep everything else on top of it!
Cornell are very very nice but probably out of your budget unless you can find a second hand one.
The new little Orange ones have that Orange tone which I don't think is right for you either now I've listened to your recordings (v good btw, looking forward to hearing the proper mixes!)
A Vox AC15 is probably also in your budget.
The really sad thing about this is I don't even play the guitar...
( , Wed 24 Dec 2008, 10:48, Reply)

then I'll keep it on my valuable lips.

( , Wed 24 Dec 2008, 10:50, Reply)

as you want to be able to hear the double bass and harmonica in our mix.
everywhere we play has the facility to mic the amps, so that's not an issue. tone and portability are far more important than volume!
I'll definitely bear what you've said in mind, and check out some Fenders. I've used a Vox before and liked it, so I'll check them out too.
I'm intending to keep the Marshall I've got for metal, so this purchase will be all about blues sound!
thanks for the advice

I've just got in from work. My spangly new PC is much nicer than the one at work. Going to take a photo of my face, post it in the beard thread then get some sleep to try and make myself feel a bit better for tonight.
And woo for goat jigsaws!

I'm not at work, but been up since 07:30, I was out shopping at 08:45 and have just got back into the house, just in time for a massive fight!
I now pronounce this xmas shit!
But I'll be posting a pic of my beard later.

Will the fight ruin everything, or will it calm down?

But right at this point I just want to kill somebody!
Are you OK though?

*hugs*
I'm OK - I'm more-or-less packed and I'm just chilling out. I'm home alone so it's the calm before the storm!

Comes after xmas.
I've got to spend tomorrow at my sisters (oh joy). then it's time to myself before I go to Dorset for NYE.
I'm hoping that that will be a better time than tomorrow.

I certainly hope you have a nice time when you go to Dorset and that everything works out OK.

And as for here, the others involved have he memories of gnats, so they'll have forgotten all about it in a little while!
Hope you have a good one back home!

I'm waiting for christmas lunch to finish cooking as I'm starving. Two and a half hours to go til I finish work and then I'm outta here to brave the (hopefully not too busy) tubes avec kitty cat.

I'm off for a nap now so if I don't pop back before going out (unlikely) have a good Christmas everybody.

Lunch sounds like a good idea. I think I'm going to switch this thing off and head off for some food, a couple of beers and then the train to deepest Surrey.
Merry Christmas!

I've finished my shopping, very pleased with everything I bought. Got myself socks and undies in the sales too. Result!
Sat on an empty bus back home, grab my beard pics and shoot across town, then open a tinnie, biff up and get wrapping!

Hello everyone
*waves shyly*
I snuck out of my lurking cupboard to ask a question elsewhere, but thought I would 'drop in'...And I have possibly the worst Christmas shifts EVER! Tonight I am on nightshift, finishing at 7am tomorrow morning - then I have to be back on duty at 3pm tomorrow afternoon! Meh..
Bah humbug!

Just went into town today for a bit of last-minute Xmas shopping. Saw a street-entertainer with a dog that could play piano & guitar (not very well) and jump through hoops.
@bentalls: Hi, I don't think we've met. Welcome to the HSH threads. Pity about your Xmas shifts. With luck, your company should compensate you somehow. In the mean time, have a * hug *.

Anyone around?
I've escaped upstairs to my laptop.
I am at mother-in-laws right now and I don't think I can cope.
She is great as is my Brother-In-Law (also a B3tard *waves* ) but I just can't handle this much other-peopleness
