It's Christmas Eve

Who's still working then?

Looks like it's just the two of us
I wouldn't mind working now if I weren't ill =/

Hello there Vipros
I know what you mean. I looked at my Christmas Radio Times* last night and got a bit of a surprise when I saw that today was Christmas Eve!

It feels just like a normal working day, except for the pleasingly quiet roads. Well, other than the twat who refused to pass a tractor. But I overtook him, so that was OK.

another one to the list of horror. I'm stuck in a virtually empty call centre. With no calls. It's starting to look like a bad stephen king movie.

I think I'd prefer a few less people in the office today
I think there are going to be more than half, and since people are out on site a lot, that's about the normal amount!

Seems like my jobs for today consist of...
• Tidying my desk
Cleaning out the fishtank Can't find the pipe required!
• Answering the phones
• Reading FHM
• Putting some packs together for a company called "Airport Angel"

That's about it really, half day FTW!
(, Wed 24 Dec 2008, 8:56, Reply)
Usually I'd agree with you
But right now, it's just creepy. Still, hopefully I can go home at lunchtime. or down the pub, whichever.

I've got
some Powerpoint stuff to do, and little else.

I'll probably just fanny around, as I've not seen another living being here yet this morning. And I have a half day anyway.

I love having a bath
Unfortunately, it uses lots of hot water, so I tend to only have one when I'm in a hotel!

I also want to revisit Hungary, as it's got a huge thermal fault running the length of the country and lots of hot springs and spas you can immerse yourself in. Marvellous.

I would like a house with its own hot spring. How decadent.

My week went from shit to awesome in the space of a day.

No work for me as trains are fucked between Leeds and York, I'm wearing a T-Shirt that Lusty made for me thet says, "I AM TOM LOGAN" which any Daily Mash reader should appreciate, and I won a TV/DVD combi at the quiz last night!

And I'm having a hair of the dog as we speak!

I have to manually transfer everyone's flexi time onto the new system we've written for 2009
so it'll be ready for them in January. This raises three points:

1. How much flexi time shall I award myself?
2. How many mistakes will I make because of my hangover?
3. Shall I dock flexi time off the people I don't like (i.e. everyone)?

I'll let you all vote on the likely outcomes.

Good idea BK, no Aussies here though I don't think. I have located a dirty great screwdriver and am considering pushing the cork into the bottle with it.

If you can't find a colleague from whom you can borrow a Swiss Army knife, then get a large woodscrew (take one out of the furniture f you need to - you've got a screwdriver!), screw it into the cork, and pull it out with a pair of pliers, or lever it out with scissors or a suitably strong tool.

Or jam the screwhead in a door and pull carefully.

I keep wondering how long it will take for somebody at this place to figure out how little work I actually do. If I have to do a total of about half hour's work in a day that's about as busy as I get, unless something breaks!

@ Vipros - don't know anything about them sorry mate, I'd usually steer clear of Laney but Googled and they look alright, very much en vogue for people to be bringing these out, it's probably pretty similar to the new Fender Deluxes etc.

Marshall are very good but the problem is they're probably overpowered for your situation. A JCM800/900 half stack is your classic valve rock amp, admittedly they'll break up earlier than a Twin but will probably still be too loud.

Also I'd submit that JCM break up isn't that bluesy a disortion, it's *that* Marshall rock tone.

If I were you I'd look at the Fender Blues series (Junior and Deluxe), they're really nice little amps. The Junior is probably more what you need as it's 15W I think, the Deluxe at 40W might be a little on the loud side for smaller venues. I'd go for 15W and assume that any venue which is too large to be able to hear it (and that'll be bigger than you think) will have the ability to mic it up. You don't want to be one of those guitarists that sound engineers hate with a 100W valve amp that has to be turned up to 11 'to get my tone man', forcing us to rape the PA and everyone's ears to keep everything else on top of it!

Cornell are very very nice but probably out of your budget unless you can find a second hand one.

The new little Orange ones have that Orange tone which I don't think is right for you either now I've listened to your recordings (v good btw, looking forward to hearing the proper mixes!)

A Vox AC15 is probably also in your budget.

The really sad thing about this is I don't even play the guitar...

if it's a valuable balm

(, Wed 24 Dec 2008, 10:51, Reply)
I'm not about playing all that loud
as you want to be able to hear the double bass and harmonica in our mix.

everywhere we play has the facility to mic the amps, so that's not an issue. tone and portability are far more important than volume!

I'll definitely bear what you've said in mind, and check out some Fenders. I've used a Vox before and liked it, so I'll check them out too.

I'm intending to keep the Marshall I've got for metal, so this purchase will be all about blues sound!

thanks for the advice

I get sick of christmas music
as shops start playing it in September.
So it's all a bit much by now, but I just love east 17!
I used to have an East 17 bag.

Sick of it and need to listen to more of it? Hell, no!
I'm even sick of the good ones, like the Phil Spector Christmas album, and the John Holt version of White Christmas...

I'm happily listening to Captain Beefheart at a non-work volume and drinking wine in my office :D

@CU
I can't watch it at work, so I'll have a look later.

My friend Vicky and I were listen to N*sync's christmas song and Cliff Richard's mistletoe and wine in her car at full blast and singing along on Sunday. I think people near by thought we were on drugs.

@Sam haha! Brian Harvey is amazing. The best lyric from them is in the song Steam...
"Outside it's raining but inside it's wet!"

Decisions decisions
My body is telling me that I should crawl into bed as soon as I get home and try to sleep off my illness.

My head is telling me that I should go out and drink through it.

My only problem with going out is that I don't like being coughing and being all sneezy when I'm out with other people.

Noons all
A day (well, afternoon) awaits of trying to find a replacement guitar for Sweary Jr since the one that was delivered has a huge chip out of it, which we only discovered last night.

And some last minute shopping for Tourette's folks. But, more amusingly, as the alarm radio went off this morning and we decided to get a bit *ahem* frisky, I was slightly put off by the fact that the dulcit sounds of Bing Crosby singing "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" decided to float across the bedroom at that precise moment...

Well I've just come back from the Christmas buffet
And I'm feeling much merrier now at the realisation that I'm nearly at the part of Christmas I actually like. Enduring the months of bollocks is always worthwhile.

I'm off home. Laters guys.

I've just got in from work. My spangly new PC is much nicer than the one at work. Going to take a photo of my face, post it in the beard thread then get some sleep to try and make myself feel a bit better for tonight.

'Noon all
I'm not at work, but been up since 07:30, I was out shopping at 08:45 and have just got back into the house, just in time for a massive fight!

I now pronounce this xmas shit!

But I'll be posting a pic of my beard later.

Will the fight ruin everything, or will it calm down?

I'm OK - I'm more-or-less packed and I'm just chilling out. I'm home alone so it's the calm before the storm!

My packing
Comes after xmas.

I've got to spend tomorrow at my sisters (oh joy). then it's time to myself before I go to Dorset for NYE.

I'm hoping that that will be a better time than tomorrow.

Hope you have a good one back home!

Lunch sounds like a good idea. I think I'm going to switch this thing off and head off for some food, a couple of beers and then the train to deepest Surrey.

Merry Christmas!

I've finished my shopping, very pleased with everything I bought. Got myself socks and undies in the sales too. Result!

Sat on an empty bus back home, grab my beard pics and shoot across town, then open a tinnie, biff up and get wrapping!

Hi all!
Hello everyone

*waves shyly*

I snuck out of my lurking cupboard to ask a question elsewhere, but thought I would 'drop in'...And I have possibly the worst Christmas shifts EVER! Tonight I am on nightshift, finishing at 7am tomorrow morning - then I have to be back on duty at 3pm tomorrow afternoon! Meh..

Bah humbug!

Just went into town today for a bit of last-minute Xmas shopping. Saw a street-entertainer with a dog that could play piano & guitar (not very well) and jump through hoops.

@bentalls: Hi, I don't think we've met. Welcome to the HSH threads. Pity about your Xmas shifts. With luck, your company should compensate you somehow. In the mean time, have a * hug *.

I've escaped upstairs to my laptop.

I am at mother-in-laws right now and I don't think I can cope.
