Last night I mugged off the BNP candidate who was begging for my vote, I was amazed at just how sweary and rude I was as this rosette sporting racist asked what he could do to ‘ensure my vote’
The dirty, racist nazi scummer.

( , Fri 5 Jun 2009, 11:06, Reply)

abstention box, and the rules in place to address what to do should say 50% of people abstain or something, I don't have so much of a problem with spoiled ballot papers.
But, if you really can't find a party that you feel address most of the issues you care about, then you probably don't understand politics enough and so should have your vote taken away from you for being a massive thicky spastic.
( , Fri 5 Jun 2009, 11:08, Reply)

you see this is my problem with democracy as implemented in this country. I think it's cock and balls. By voting for someone I'm complicit in saying the system we have is acceptable.
"if you really can't find a party that you feel address most of the issues you care about"
You don't vote for a party though, you vote for a person (and no it's not the leader of party your candidate is representing but rather the candidate themselves). I dislike party politics as in almost all democracies that I've seen it converges to a 50/50 choice. Screw that.
I want proportional representation. I want an official "None of the above" option. I want an end to negative campaigning, tactical voting as the norm, politicians who are afraid to answer questions plainly or admit they're wrong because it makes them look weak which in turn is pounced on by the press which in turn is lapped up the ignorant electorate.
Hmmmm, a clearer, better write up with more convincing arguments is required.
( , Fri 5 Jun 2009, 11:42, Reply)

I think PR is a great idea, but if you look at all the countries with PR you end up with governments that can't really do anything as they are always run by coalitions and have to be very careful.
But then again, that isn't always a bad thing, but it can mean that parties with only small amounts of popular support can wield far more power than their vote share would indicate as they get to say to a much larger party "do this, or we don't support you and you get nothing done at all".
I think the argument put forward that PR leads to a rise in extremist parties is bollocks though.
And I know you dont vote for a "party" as such, but if the party rules were better i.e. local party members voted for the MP rather than the government imposing their choices in safe seats, then it would a better system.

( , Fri 5 Jun 2009, 11:56, Reply)

whiles its gone quiet at work.
As you all know, the BNP are a bit 'extreme' at times (especially the muslim bit). However, most peoples issues seem to relate to their immigration policies and I'll agree 100% that these need to seriously addressed. However, they don't want to 'kick out all immigrants' despite what the mainstream media will tell you; they support a control system (perhaps based on the Australian model) and will offer a £3000.00 repatriation payment to any immigrant wishing to return home (a policy hijacked and implemented by the current Labour Government).
I'm not racist, honestly I'm not. I'm just a honest, hardworking family man who feels our country needs to get some balls and no party other than the BNP seems to have any.

aren't a little thing on the side that you can ignore, they are trying to put a respectable face on their inherently racist stance. Of course they aren't going to say "we will send all the darkies home" but that is exactly what they want to do.
So if you aren't a racist you can't have any truck supporting them as a party, even if some of their policies tick your boxes, because supporting the BNP makes you a racist, no matter how much you think you can argue the other way.
Additionally, they have such a shockingly bad record every time they get into power on being as bent as nine bob notes, and if not bent then just useless at actually getting anything done, that even without the racism they are still a ridiculous party to support.

Had nothing to do with the Aboriginal people. It was their immigration policy until the mid seventies. and it still had major support and parts of it form the basis of significant parts of their current immigration policy, although that's not officially acknowledged. In within the last 15 years the leader of the majority opposition (as in, more than 25% of the fucking vote) campaigned on a ticket of re-introducing racial discrimination on immigration policy. There are many great things about Australia but racial tolerance amongst the people or the politics sure as fuck isn't one.
( , Fri 5 Jun 2009, 14:46, Reply)

What a spectacularly ignorant thing to say. Here is something from the BNP:
"The British National Party stands for the preservation of the national and ethnic character of the British people and is wholly opposed to any form of racial integration between British and non-European peoples. It is therefore committed to stemming and reversing the tide of non-white immigration …
BNP constitution"
The BNP constitution says that anyone who cannot prove a link to Britain before 1948 can never be considered British. I can't. Yet I was schooled here, I work here, and I pay taxes here. I even have a maroon passport. Yet under this 'constitution' I could be forcibly repatriated, as could the rest of my family.
Anyone, but anyone, who supports the BNP and says 'I'm not a racist' is either a liar or delusional. It doesn't matter if you are 'University educated and quite well paid' - Nick Griffin has a degree from Cambridge University. Racism and Fascism isn't the preserve of the perceived underclass.

Personally I don't think that the "joke" about Indian restaurants was racist as it was in no way derogatory towards Indians.
Wormulus has typified the kind of shrieking nonsense that many white people say, crying racist at any mention of another race in anything but a glowing light even if the comment is effectively neutral.
I guarantee very few if any indians would be offened by this.

and all Indian restaurants are run by people who are a different race to the BNP.
If this were the intention of the joke it makes two vague generalisations based on race.
It falls short of making a value judgment about somone based on their race, but it's not the funniest or cleverest joke to make after talking about your own burning intolerance of the BNP.
