what are you up to this weekend?
I've got to disconnect my old oven and hob and take a saw to the worktop. fun times.
the mrs is away, so I'm either going to get properly beered up with my mates, or sit in a darkened room on my own stoned out of my gourd.

it's got to the point where your constant mention of drug taking makes you sound like a sad pathetic old man who is desperately trying to retain a slither of his childhood by getting stonned.
I'm going to the peak district

But yes, y'all be warned: I've had a full night's kip and am feeling pretty on-form...

as far as I'm concerned it's the same as mentioning that I'm going to the pub.
Are you going to go in the Devil's Arse?

Haven't actually got past
1. Get in car
2. Drive North
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 9:13, Reply)
apart from the north bit. nothing good ever came of going north.

it's just all the bits between here and there that I don't

I had to drive to London a while back. Everything in between the lakes and London was mostly grey and crap.

I'm just going to stay hiding up here and never venture to your rubbish country again.

Once again, I'll be writing essay and then doing design work before the start of next week. This may well be interspersed with wasting time playing Mario Kart...

who was in *name of famous band deleted so I don't look like a namedropping twat but Vipros knows* to discuss getting something together musically.
The idea is do a fuzz freakout drone kind of thing like early Spacemen 3 or Loop but with a more upbeat approach, hints of the MC5.
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 9:06, Reply)
that'll be cool. good to get something musical going, with someone who knows what they are doing

I'm not selfishly exploiting his connections - we share a lot of tastes (despite his early gay indie leanings which seem to have been largely crushed by years of abuse from me) - but I cannot deny working with a proper professional with access to great equipment etc isn't attractive.

I need more guitars.
my mate picked up one of these recently
www.recordingking.com/resonators_rm991.html
I'm still not sure of the look, but it sounds beautiful, especially in an open tuning and played with a slide.
we came up with some good stuff last night.
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 9:48, Reply)
Being retarded, I struggled with it for years before someone suggested tuning to an open G. Revelatory.
I'm still not very good at it, but it's one of the most evocative sounds ever, I utterly love it. Mine's glass, I've had steel ones in the past but they sounded too scratchy - my fault I'm sure.
That's a freaky-looking guitar but I kinda like it.
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:09, Reply)
and a normal tuned guitar works well with it if in Drop D.
my slide technique is a bit shit, but my mate has been playing that guitar non-stop for two weeks and has come along really nicely. He's got a really fat glass slide, which seemed crap at first, but is much better than any other I've used.
that guitar sounds incredible with a slide. really warm and rich.

I'm starting a 60s style fuzztone band with Simon Fuller.
Our first tune is going to be a radical re-working of the 'They're gonna taste graaa-aate' Frosties song.

So I think I may tank the bottle of JD that someone brought over at Xmas, that has had a few measures out, but had resided in their booze cupboard for 10 fucking years.
Booze can't go off, right? Oh well, i'll soon find out.
No cheese left, so i will have to break out the 'cooncil puff' and do battle with that.
Also going to visit my dear old Gran who resides in a nursing home. I really should visit more often but her partial dementia and various ailments make this journey quite painful. I should stop being a selfish prick though and just get on with it.

He's planning on being fired out of a canon or somesuch from 4pm onwards.
Whilst I shall pop over to share his joy, I would like to be home in time for Popstar to Opera Star (YES, ITV HAVE MADE SOMETHING I WANT TO WATCH!!!) because Marcella Detroit and Alex James are on it.
I'm also going to use up the rest of the lamb steaks I bought yesterday and make some kind of soup or stew.
(Yesterday my lamb steaks in white wine and dill were to die for, and my mashed potato is reaching perfection.)
I'm getting old and boring. Vip, go out, see your friends, interact. Don't be a grinch like me!
I might go out and get proper wellied on Saturday though. If it doesn't snow.
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 9:21, Reply)
I imagine I will go out. my mates only live about 10 houses away, so I have no excuse really.

I'm out tonight for a mates birthday - rawking it up, so that should be fun. Tomorrow will consist of a hangover and a bacon fest while watching nothing too loud on the telly. Sunday I intend to sleep for the entire day.

Oi luv, getting your tits out tonight? :)

We went out in Camden last night to have a snoop but all the good shops were shut. DiT got some stuff but I am pinning all my hopes on a dress arriving today for me to wear. If it doesn't appear I'm skinny jeaning with a skull top - can't be arsed to be original.
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 9:55, Reply)
Meh. Whatever I wear its going to be the 'wrong thing'. The amount of posers that were out in full-force last night was insane.
I could turn up tonight dressed as an astronaut and everyone would probably freak out and run away to buy helmets and suits, they'd all think they missed out on a new trend!
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:05, Reply)
I did see a full Matador outfit for sale last night and was strangely tempted to buy it - maybe I should get that! :D
I could complete the look with a jazz flute too!
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:10, Reply)
its giving me weird outfit ideas! :S
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:13, Reply)
I've decided I need more suits.
Barney sang a song about them on the latest episode of How I met your mother, and that clinched it for me.
I need to find some reasonably priced secondhand 3 piece suits.
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:14, Reply)
Hmmm its difficult to find good quality secondhand clothing that doesn't cost the world. That's the thing about Camden, it has some amazing shops but some of the stuff is just so overpriced because its a tourist hot-spot so they can get away with it. :(
Do you have any good secondhand shops around your way?
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:20, Reply)
the trouble is it's a busy place, so anything good gets snapped up quite quickly. all you can be sure of finding in there are a variety of blazers and sports jackets. loads of 20s and 30s dresses, leather jackets and Levis
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:25, Reply)
that you have something like that near you, even if it is a bit on the expensive side. :)
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:27, Reply)
and they have drawers and boxes full of long gloves and hats and stuff. it's a cool shop.
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:28, Reply)
I'd hire tuxes for all sorts of normal occasions. Like going in to uni. Alas, there's nowhere around here.
(, Fri 15 Jan 2010, 10:32, Reply)
there was an awesome antiques market in cardiff that had vintage clothes. my tux cost £30 to buy from there

I'll be going to Camden Town, where I will listen to Loud music, while being offended by all the little emo scenesters.
I imagine that I'll be hung over tomorrow. It's the wife's turn to make bacon sandwiches.
