in a bid to cheer myself up for working on a lovely sunny sunday, i am thinking about holidays. spending easter in a very swish-looking spa with a friend (champagne in the outdoor hot-tub FTW, it had better not rain), and just booking 2 weeks driving around california in june/july with some girlfriends (although i am a bit pussy about driving on the wrong side of the road).
so at the risk of sounding like a bored teenage apprentice hairdresser, anyone booked any holidays yet this year? where are you going?? or where would you go if you were given an open ticket to anywhere in the world?
edit - my ideal holiday would be a trip to japan followed by hawaii. dream trip would be a huge convertible car and 6 months to drive it across the states.

The house is in dire need of some tlc as is the garden. So. Five weeks at home.
Open ticket to anywhere? 6 months on Oahu. Learning to surf and getting some polynesian ink.

for my 30th birthday *sob sob*. Download - not really a holiday but it'll be in the sun. And I'm racking up bonus hotel points in Stockholm - there now - so I might have a holiday in Scandinavia.
Oh and eveyone should join Halfy and me for some proper English ales at the Cambridge beer festival (see Calendar).
EDIT: Open ticket - Japan

Sonisphere, perhaps Barcelona. Was going to do the Transiberian Railway but not enough people wanted to.
Dream holiday would probably be Transiberian Railway or possibly Japan

I did the Trans Mongolian a few years ago. Only bit of advice I'll give is if you don't want any fuss with the Russian visas, make sure you get them before you set off. Thankfully, me and my friend found them in a place in Lithuania that does them. Mongolian and Chinese visas are easier to obtain when on the go.
But whichever one you do go on, do make sure you see Lake Baikal in some form or other.

I want to do just the original Transiberian though if I had money I'd do the others. Did you enjoy your trip?

And maybe a trip to Norn Iron in September, hopefully, to introduce crackhouseceilidhbaby to the relatives.
Open ticket? Japan or Patagonia.

we're trying to book our honeymoon at the moment. South America hopefully - although the lovely people at the the travel company carefully wrote down our budget and dates, and then carefully ignored them. Gah.

Will probably be making use of my landlord's lovely place in Cumbria as usual. Weekend away with my mate to Edinburgh. And whatever other freebies I can muscle in on.

went there on my honeymoon. Gets very crowded in season, though

you need the magic factor 40 which lasts 6 hours. Shockingly it even worked on me (I'm very very pale)
(, Sun 28 Mar 2010, 17:45, Reply)
stupid irish heritage (no offence, crackhouse!). i have found the only way to go any shade of golden at all is to put the factor 40 on and then to drizzle a bit of tanning oil on top. otherwise i end up a truly stunning mixture of pale white and pale pink. with red burnt bits around the tops of thighs/boobs for extra sex appeal where i've missed with the cream however careful i am... why does that always happen??

it had "para los ninos" and pictures of babies on it.

My parents used to put factor 7 on me! I spent a lot of time burnt
(, Sun 28 Mar 2010, 17:58, Reply)
She thought it was preventing future burnings. I spent most holidays wandering about sobbing with a pie mouth.

this hadn't made me laugh. in fairness to me, your competition is a subunderlease of part...

Still haven't made up my mind about the itinerary, but I've already bought my Japan Rail Pass so I can just make it up as I go along.
Also, I'll be going to Cornwall for the Easter Weekend.
I've still got one week left of holiday allowance. Not sure if I'll be going anywhere else or just spending it at home chilling out.
As for an open ticket, I'd like to do a round-the-world trip that does not involve going anywhere by plane.

and Arizona for weekend trips.
Got a fishing vacation booked in June, and possibly a trip to Mexico in September/October.
Love to meet up with you while you're over here and show you around a bit.
Edit: Driving out here is piss easy. Pretty much everything is on a grid and the roads are all 2-3 lanes wide (with a few exceptions). Also, the car you get will be automatic.

If I had an open ticket I'd go to Cuba or Japan

It will be a mini two-week b3ta bash as BGB is coming as well.
Open ticket - hmm. I've always wanted to go coast to coast Canada via train. No idea why. Would also like to visit Legless in Oz some day.

Travelling about and visiting large amounts of people. Might even venture over to the South of France to visit friends who are down there. And possibly the big city too on the way back up.

i didn't do a holiday, but as of tuesday I have a funky newer car, Hyundai Coupe 2l SE to zoom around in, and am looking at a Toblerone the size of my forearm and contemplating how ill i will be if i scoff it all

Her company bog standard merc estate is borked, apparently all 4 fuel filters are screwed and there is a 4 week waiting list for the parts, so the hire company have given her a rather nice AMG beastie for the weekend, and then she'll have an ML320 until hers is fixed
edit: which costs about 55% of my house!

funnily enough there is one parked outside my flat at the moment that made me laugh when i walked in, as the reg is MY 61TCH.
does she have to pay for the petrol though? my slk is about 80quid to fill, so the amg must be twice as much!
(, Sun 28 Mar 2010, 21:36, Reply)
classy!
Nope, she admitted the other day she hasn't "paid" for petrol in about 7 years, lucky cow!

I'll be in Cornwall for a few days in June for a beach party with my med student friends. Hopefully I'll also be going back later in the summer to do a power kite instructor course (something I've been after for years). I might end up staying on there if I can find work as said instructor.

first time off on holiday with the missus. and first holiday off my own back for 7 years...
the ideal would be to do what I did back in 2002 and piss off around Australia again in a big fuck-off old estate car, camping wherever we felt like. awesome-sauce.
