I went to see 'Tortoise' at the Highbury Garage once. They were so dismally poor we left during the second 'number'. My mate claimed they were all multi-instrumental geniuses from some Chicago music school.
If that is so, they must have been doing an ironic impression of a 'special' school music class, complete with tone deaf xylophone misery. £15 for five minutes of total shit.
EDIT I also once had a half-hour kip during a Herbie Hancock gig. When I woke up he was still playing the same God-awful noodly bollocks he was when I nodded off.

It was billed as a Plus 8 tour, so I was expecting some Plastikman style nuttiness. Instead we were treated to what sounded like a load of gay anthems and a sonic reach around.
I called him a cunt and left.

I saw him do a fucking amazing 5hr Plastikman set at Weatherall's Sabresonic night many years ago. He was superb.
(, Tue 17 Aug 2010, 9:17, Reply)
I have seen him 4 times, hotly anticipating some analogue meltdown, and everytime it was his Balaeric Bumbder Bollocks. The last time was the straw that broke the camels back. However, he has now seen the light and has resurrected the Plastikman moniker to much acclaim. The lightshow that accompanies his current tour is simply eyepopping.

Awesome, I only got into Plastikman after he started doing all that euro crap.

Unfortunately he is only playing festivals at the moment. He played Rock Ness a few months back. Check You Tube for clips. Oh, and bizarrely, there is a clip on there of some festival in the States, and right at the front is what looks like the Lawrence Olivier of our generation, Jason Statham, frugging about.

A few mates and I went to see 'The FFers' at Reading 2008, hoping that it was in fact a rather unsubtle hint that the Foos would be playing a set.
About 20,000 people had the same idea and were packed into one of the 'Introducing...' tents. Rather than the halo of guitar godliness that is Dave Grohl et al, we got some bunch of hipsters indie dipshits.
Fortunately the sun was then obscured by the number of bottles thrown onto the stage!
Although I do feel a little sorry for them

I went to see Children Of Bo(re)dom, supported by Cannibal Corpse. CC were fantastic, brilliant atmosphere, you name it. COB came on stage, all pissed up, could barely play their instruments, and kept forgetting the words to their songs. Left after 10 minutes.
I would have walked out of 'War Of The Worlds', but the missus forced me to stay and watch it with her. That film is shite.
(, Tue 17 Aug 2010, 9:38, Reply)
Yes, even I didn't think this would be possible. They were playing the opeing of a new arts centre, the CCA in Glasgow, and was frankly the most hotly anticipated gig I had ever been to. The place was rammed and it was 'one out one in' into the venue itself.
We got in early and ended standing beside Jim Kerr of Simple Minds, but I digress. On shambled Suicide looking like a escapees from an old folks home. Martin Rev was sporting an eye watering, full body spandex suit and oversized shades and then promptly began to mince about behind his keyyboards. Alan Vega looked like an 80 year old Maradonna, complete with bulging gut and crazy eyes.
So far so shit. Then the music began and it bore very little resemblance to anything they had ever recorded. It took me about 5 minutes to decipher they were actually playing 'Ghost Rider', a favourite of mine. They were murdering it and the damage they were doing could be permanent, so I pushed past Jim Kerr and left hurriedly, into the night, shaking with confusion. Seriously though, they were, horrendous.

it's fair to say Keanu Reeves is the most wooden actor around bar the Tardis but apart from him it's good. Great concept, first time we got to see bullet time and that spanky 3d slo mo camera shennanigans. All in all a goof 8.5 out of 10 film.

When we got outside, we burst into laughter, with relief I should think. Got home in time for Casualty and beer. We only went because the other half had studied it for A level french.

As they go on it becomes more tightly produced and such.
