Where would you live in Bristol?
Hello my furry friends.

Me and 'im indoors and teh kitteh are moving to Brzzl (as I believe the local characters refer to it) in the forthcoming months (providing his job comes through). What with work and suchlike I am having limited time to look round for housing. We want a 2 bed minimum house to rent. I've heard:

Clifton is nice but poncy
Redland is nice but studenty
St Paul's is a bit scabby

Anything further? I would (ideally) like to be somewhere I can get onto the M4/M5 quickly) and he wants to be somewhere on a bus route or near a station as he doth not drive.

Ta muchly.

Bishopston
Stokes Croft
St Andrews
Montpelier

Clifton is lovely but a little poncy
Redland is perfect and not too studenty
St Pauls is scabby but brilliant and exciting.

Cotham might suit you actually, 10 minute walk to bus station or 2 minute bus journey.

Don't live in Horfield
I can tell you that much.

Clifton is nice though
(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:27, Reply)
Stan the Man is in Horfield though and Rovers.
apart from that it's fucking horrible.
(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:29, Reply)
exactly
that whole bit is. Go green and leafy
(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:37, Reply)
It's been a while since I lived there
but if I moved back (and I would love to; it's a brilliant city) I'd probably live in Montpelier or Clifton, if I could afford it.

EDIT - Amberl speaks only in truths, don't live in Horfield. That's where I lived, and some cunt nicked my motorbike.

Move to Bath and commute.

(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:29, Reply)
because everyone loves paying far too much for rent/house prices

(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:34, Reply)
Yes Bath is expensive but I think it's worth it. An alternative would be some of the smaller towns & villages around Bath - such as Bradford on Avon.

(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:37, Reply)
yes

(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:48, Reply)
That depends....
Where will you be working?
Are you buying or renting?
Do you need easy access to narcotics?

Bristol is a 2 hour drive to Portsmouth.
Will you eventually be working in Brizzle?

Probably was a bit optimistic now that I think of it.
The point is that this is a fucking long commute.
(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 15:54, Reply)
google says just over 2 hours
that surprised me, because it takes fucking forever from here to portsmouth. The beauty of motorways.

I wish you and " 'im indoors" and "teh kitteh" the best of luck though, and may I say Congratulations on finding such an accepting partner, it can't be easy for someone in your position.

clifton is lovely
my best friend's dad bought a real flat there when we were at uni because she didn't get a place in halls. i used to go and stay when i needed grown up comforts that we never had in my studenty houses, like tumbledryers and kitchen roll and ceilings that didn't split at 3am and drown me in 100 years of rusty water and pigeon shit (stupid attic bedroom). anyway, yes, clifton is really pretty and you can walk into the town centre very easily too.
(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:39, Reply)
It's a right cunt for parking
In fact, car ownership in general is a pain if you live up there. Why students need to collect that many wing-mirrors continue to baffle.
(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:40, Reply)
i was a skanky student
so i was always on train/foot. but most cities are dreadful for parking these days - although i think oxford wins for being the shittiest place for parking in the uk.

and reeeally aggressive traffic wardens
and only 2 hours even in the free spaces. i am there for a few days at the end of the month, thank god one of my friends has got me some local residents' permits, otherwise i might have slaughtered a traffic warden.

I always get back to college
from the gym at about ten past eight, and the traffic wardens are already patrolling Broadstreet, and taking photos of all the cars.

i hate them
why do they exist?

You should go for it, traffic warden sex is hot.
"BUT I'M ONLY TWO MINUTES LATE ! I HAVE FIVE !" and "I'M INSIDE THE YELLOW LINES".... god, what I wouldn't give for a passionate night with a traffic warden.

don't see the problem with them
it's the same as speeding, if you don't want to pay a fine, don't do it, or don't get caught.

yes
but when you have to move your car after an hour and there is literally nowhere else to park and the black and gold wearing bastards are literally prowling around your car after 58 minutes... they should die. an hour is no good for anything. what can you do in an hour?

What are you looking for?
I live in Hanham, and have desires to move a little further out to a place like Bradford on Avon, Oldland Common or Bitton.

Lots of nice areas, depends if you want to be walking distance from the city centre, or are just happy being 20/30mins out.

Where do you drink?
Maypole? Trooper or The Swan?

Heavy praise
Sorry to hear about your car woes, I had that the last 3 months (broken in to, 4 new tyres, expensive service and insurance renewal).

it's fucking gash frankly
fortunate that a mate is doing the work, but still, if it's a new turbo, then it's either £600 or 700 or a new car...

not what I need right now. We already decided today that we totally can't afford to go on a grand honeymoon straight after the wedding without totally crippling ourselves for the next couple of years.

and that was before the car news.

Mini thread - best pub in brizzle
I'm going to go for Mrs Beeses on a sunny day. Take the boat over, eat a burger and drink fantastic cider in the garden.

And, importantly, few of the trustafarians from Clifton et al come and visit
(, Tue 14 Sep 2010, 15:11, Reply)
I've been here 10 years and still not made it to Beeses.
Not sure what my favourite pub is now. Hare on the Hill used to be good. I like the Bath Ales ones.

Beeses is brill - you should go. Nice and kid friendly too.
I think for me it'd have to be the Sugarloaf on St Marks road in easton. Best jukebox around, pool tables, lovely garden, excellent range of ciders, lagers, and local ales - some crazy locals and me!
