Does anyone know what constitutes a "hate" crime?
Everyone in my apartment block - 50 units - have had a hand delivered letter delivered, presumably from a resident. It's pretty strong stuff, racist, homophobic ranting, through to suggesting killing mixed race kids. It also refers specifically to certain people, though not by name, just description.
Anyway, is this illegal? Or just moronic?

It's illegal and classed as hate crime. Hate crime can be reported online:

this is a tad different. i personally think you should post a pic of it on here.. the internet's a powerful thing, and if someone was to get caught for it, it being internetted would probably get the hate machine rolling nicely. in fact, go post it on 4chan.

but a joke site just tells offensive jokes, whereas this is encouraging people to act on the hatred. Also, he actively sent these letters, whereas you would have to go on the site to read the jokes.

Although I suppose having said that, if he posted the letter on a communal wall it would be just as bad. Hmmm.

I know someone who is a paid up member of many poltical parties
for the sole reason that it gives him a vote on party decisions, leadership battles etc. He feels it better to be able to attempt to change the policies a party he disagrees with has than to vocally slag them off. He was on the BNP list and he's never voted for them and never would.
