does the UK still take political refugees and do any of you have room in your basement (or attic) for me and my family?
Alternatively, what drugs will best help me to bend over and take it with a smile from our more right wing than ever government?
none of you are doing my mother 'cause she'd kick your ass if you tried

The UK government are trying to shrink the state by 40%. That's Palin country.

But christian conservatism is very common in Europe. Europe's largest political group was known as the Christian Democrats for years.

evangelicals? I've never seen anything on the avaialble news of Europe about evngelicals in power like they are here. Just about any national politician now has to prove he/she is a member of a christian church to even get nominated. More and more, if you're not evngelical and "born again". you can't get elected.

(, Wed 3 Nov 2010, 11:23, Reply)
Our government doing something that, by coincidence, Palin also wants to do, doesn't necessarily make them "like Palin." There are plenty of other things they do or stand for which are very unlike Palin. Similarly, I may occasionally find myself agreeing with the view of a Tory politician, but that doesn't mean my views are 'typically Tory.'

some ways that is unfortunate as if the right held both houses, Obama could do what Clinton did and let them make complete idiots of themselves.

(And I apologise for explaining this poorly but I was half-asleep at the time)
But he was saying that, now the Republicans have more power, it may spur the Democrats to work a lot harder to push these reforms through, rather than trying to do it piecemeal and keep everyone happy, and so if Obama et al decide that they really do want to go for these reforms then this blow might actually work out for the best.

they generally agree with things like not being able to kick someone off of his/her insurannce policy becasue they get sick.
The trouble is that the growing TV driven non-thinking population just watches right wing propaganda and votes they way they are told all the while parroting the bullshit they are fed. once people start to think a little.....
The right wing is very good at propaganda and verl little else except ennriching their already rich owners and putting the whole world in danger.

and not just think "You're clinically insane and not fit for public office"
(, Wed 3 Nov 2010, 11:30, Reply)
people don't think enough.
I meant to mention this the other day in the wake of those bombs being found on cargo planes and proposals to increase security measures.
My view is this: no cargo planes have thus far been blown up by terrorists. Bombs have been found and disarmed. This leads me to think that the security measures as they are are just fine.
Ignoring the view that terrorism is the least of our worries at the moment.
(, Wed 3 Nov 2010, 11:33, Reply)
the point of terrorism is to disrupt your life to make you change your ways to fit the terrorists ideal. So if you intentionally disrupt your life by adding more and more security so your way of life becomes untenable, you've played right into the terrorists hands.

they were found because a guy handed himself into the Saudis and they offered him a deal.

asking of the UK still takes politiical refugees??? Although once someone like Palin takes real power and holds the atomic button, the whole world will be blown up as these people don't wory about death and destruction as they think they the second coming is going to happen any day.

very few people had guns as they were pretty much hand made and very expensive. There were also laws in various parts of the US allowing guns only to white male landowners.
There was clearly not the intention to make guns freely available to all as the NRA preaches. If we could capture the energy of all of the "founding fathers" spinning in their graves as they hear the right wing shit, we could solve all of our energy problems.

The whole argument about needing a firearm to defend your own property is as inane as it is backward. Granted, if you live in a more rural community and are likely to need to fend off bears, you've good grounds for owning a shotgun.
But in urban environments? Look at it the other way round: if a man does break into your home, sure, you can't threaten him with a gun, but then at the same time he is far less likely to be carrying one if they're illegal and not readily available in the first place. Advantage: homeowner, due to knowing where all the sharp and/or heavy objects are in the property.
