I have just been to Tesco.
I asked the pretty girl behind the checkout who has been flirting with me for the last month or so out for a drink tonight.

What is the last thing you did totally on a whim?
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:54, archived)
what did she say?

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:55, archived)
The lady from Tesco, she say yes!

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:56, archived)
Hurrah!
Was she wearing the old skool uniform or the new casual one?
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:56, archived)
why would she be wearing her old school uniform?

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:58, archived)
She was wearing the blue checked shirt one.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:59, archived)
Superb
She's a keeper
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:00, archived)
I think so.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:00, archived)
Tesco staff don't wear school uniforms.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:05, archived)
Well done
don't be to nervous, but your entire future happiness depends on those drinks.

you are an example to internet-kind
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:07, archived)
Just goes to prove not all people on the internet are sweaty awkward types.
So come on people, ask out a girl from Tesco!
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:10, archived)
Ask out a girl! Are you mad?!
I couldn't manage that when I was blind drunk
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:14, archived)

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:16, archived)

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:16, archived)
That is very true

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:18, archived)
My mate did that
and now they live together.

Bought something, probably.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:55, archived)
What, with the same girl from Tesco?
Blimey.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:02, archived)

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:05, archived)

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:08, archived)

Bought my car
Didn't test drive one, hadn't even seen one except on the internet. Just walked into the dealers, haggled, plonked down the deposit and picked her up 3 months later
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:56, archived)
3...MONTHS!?!?
Is it a DB9 or something? What if it drives like a piece of shit?

What is it? I hope it's not a Ford...
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:57, archived)
Do new cars happen quicker than that?

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:57, archived)
Most cars can be picked up within a few days of buying

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:59, archived)
Ah, right you are Ted.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:00, archived)
All cars are pre built and most 'extras' can just be blue tac'd in.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:00, archived)
I feel like a right special case now.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:01, archived)

No a clio
The Alpine factory closes for a month in August and they have a 2 month waiting list.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:58, archived)
Ah fair enough :)
I quite like those :)
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:59, archived)
It's a super little car
Much better than the old 182s I had.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:06, archived)
i keep getting the urge to do this
though in my case the car is the 90s volvo 960 estate, and they go for around £212.75. it'd be pocket money, but car ownership would drive me mental
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:03, archived)
Are we still talking about the girl from Tescos?

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:17, archived)
No about the last thing I did totally on a whim
The girl in Tesco wasn't impressed when I tried to leave a deposit and offered to pick her up in 3 months
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:25, archived)
You taking her to the Bingo after her medication?

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:56, archived)
Probably.
Except we don't have a bingo hall in my town.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:57, archived)
paint your chest with squares
put a doley on your head. She'll be yours :)
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:58, archived)
what did she say?

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:56, archived)
She said yes.
I'm a bit nervous now.

Sample conversation might go something along the lines of 'so...how long have you been working at Tesco?'
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:58, archived)
So what's your favorite type of fruit to weigh?

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:00, archived)
Plums, naturally.
Fancy weighing mine?
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:04, archived)
nothing. i like to plan.
careful planning of plans.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:57, archived)
Nothing.
I don't think I have ever done anything on a whim...... actually, yes I have. When I went to talk to Trev, that was 14 years ago.

Hmmmm, I must be a planner.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:58, archived)
Pray, who is Trev?
Do tell.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:00, archived)
B3tan.... well, rarely viewed b3tan now.
But he was also my husband and Daddy to my daughters. Lovely chap.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:03, archived)
Ah ha!
I see.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:05, archived)
That would be a hasty conclusion,
as that would imply that I too am a planner. And I most definitely am not.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:00, archived)
Oh, I am
very much so.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:03, archived)
Well you would know,
but it doesn't follow from what you just told us.

I only cross my bridges when I come to them, but never act on impulse. Arbitrary decisions are impossible for me. Most of the time I'm pretty much blown along by the breeze.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:07, archived)
eh?
I think you read more into what I said.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:10, archived)
What you said was
Premise: I've never done anything on a whim
Conclusion: I must be a planner.

Does not logically follow.

The counterexample of myself was presented.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:13, archived)
but I was talking about myself
not you. I have no idea what you're like.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:14, archived)
Yes but you said "I must be a planner", not "I am a planner".
I can accept your word for that, but it doesn't logically follow from "I do not act on a whim," as you implied by the use of "I must".
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:16, archived)
too much thought there, love
it really doesn't matter.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:20, archived)
EVERYTHING MATTERS
EXCEPT WHEN IT DOESN'T.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:21, archived)
I'm a "make a plan and then don't go through with it" kinda guy.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:02, archived)
Nothing, as far as I can remember.
I'm totally lacking in spontaneity.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 14:59, archived)
my whole life is done on whims

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:02, archived)
Crikey.
Nothing recently. I don't think. And any that I normally do involves just going to the pub or buying some new clothes/shoes/make up/underwear.

I'm quite dull really.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:04, archived)
I think the last thing I did on a whim
was go and get my tongue pierced during my lunch hour one time because there was nothing else to do. That's like six years ago now.

I need to do more exciting things.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:09, archived)
Did that not make talking in the office hard that afternoon?
Be more impulsive, you might end up doing something fun.

I'm rubbish at planning anything, pretty much everything I do is impulsive.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:13, archived)
I'm pretty crappy at planning anything either.
I'm a bit of a fail all round really. Oh well.

As for the tongue, not really. I didn't really talk much then, also my tongue didn't swell up like Jamie Oliver's. We had a family party to go to a couple of days later and my mother had told me in no uncertain terms not to speak to anyone because they might see. Until she'd had a few drinks and I was like a circus freak act, 'Blue Star! C'mon, show them what you got done the other day'. My cousin was there, he saw it and looked at me very very wrongly indeed.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:19, archived)
Most things
minimal planning leads to interesting situations.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:12, archived)
I'm all for this.
I don't always like to know what is going to happen one day to the next.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:14, archived)
And that's why you've got a ride on Walrus and live in a piano.

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:16, archived)
Not much
I tend to regret things I do impuslively. I should probably be more impulsive though.
(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:14, archived)
I went for a poo even though I didn't need one

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 15:15, archived)
I might do something on a whim tonight.
This requires some planning...
