Name me one of your favorite films and why you like it.
Please don't be a dullard and mention a porno (real or lolcrazee), let's try and get some conversation going.

I'll start.

I'm going to go with Big Fish, I emphsise with the main character and I love the acting and directing style. I find it magical and it transports me to another place, and then slaps me back to reality. It inspires most emotions in me and I find it very entertaining.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:08, archived)
My favourite film of ALL TIME
has to be Kind Hearts & Coronets. It's just lovely
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:10, archived)
I don't know that one, what is it about?

(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:11, archived)
Dennis Price has to kill all the living members of his family in order to inherit a fortune
and they are all played by alec guiness. It's just very well written and it's in black and white
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:16, archived)
Sounds like it's got potential, is it B&W 'cus it is old, or 'cus of the direction style?

(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:19, archived)
Here you go you lazy bugger

Absolutely superb fillum
in fact, I love all the Ealing comedies. The Titfield Thunderbolt is probably my fave. Quintessentially British and produced in technicolour.
I'd love to be the drunken rich guy that Stanley Holloway played to perfection

All the Ealing stuff is great. Especially The Ladykillers. And Passport to Pimlico. And The Man In The White Suit. Well yeah, all of it.

Everyone should watch it once. It should be law.

(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 22:10, archived)
I like lots and lots
But like earlier when I got flamed I shal say I LOVE Transformers. I really do, I can't even decide if I only love it because the youngest boy loves it and the Glee on his face tomorrow night will be priceless.

Also I booked my holiday for next year today WOOHOO!
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:16, archived)
Agreed
But only if you're referring to the original cartoon movie with Orson Welles voicing unicron and where bumblebee swears.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:20, archived)
Oh fabulous.
I find I rarely laugh at the telly if I'm on my own, but if I'm with friends and they laugh, then I'm more likely to laugh.... I think the reaction of who I'm with is worth just as much, to me, as the origional joke itself. I would like to go with you to see War of the Worlds Live or Wicked, so you could see the glee in my whole being when watching them.

Oh wow, where are you going?
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:21, archived)
You know how much I want to see Wicked anyway.
We'll have to arrange it.

Oh and....

The stage mechanics and all that is just excellent.

Sure she's green but.... Would.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:37, archived)
I am also taking my boy to see transformers tomorrow night
except he's my husband and he's 34. It is quite wrong how excited he is but the imax is at the end of our road so I can't really say no.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:59, archived)
I enjoyed transformers
It wasn't what i had hoped for, but it was a good film in it's own way.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 22:05, archived)
The Last Unicorn
Specifically the bit where a tree grows massive boobs and tries to smother the main character with them.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:17, archived)
What's that about?

(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:21, archived)
The film is called the last unicorn. Take a wild guess what it's about.

(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 22:01, archived)
I read that as The Last Unicron
I totally need to get over this Transformers obession.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:21, archived)
My friends and I used to watch The Transformers : The Movie a lot when we were stoned.
At one point we could quote every line.
We still sometimes use the universal greeting when we meet up.

Oh man, I've only seen clips, but what I've seen I liked.
Wasn't there a really good modern version for it they did for a car advert about 7 or 8 years ago? I remember thinking 'wow' to that.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:22, archived)
No.
There was a dreadful advert for a car that had a remix of the title song. I hated it.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:24, archived)
what about Morecambe and Wise's version? come on, that's pretty good.

(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:31, archived)

In other news, HELLO BLUE STAR! HOW ARE YOU?
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:49, archived)
Yes I like the Paddington Bear one
AND the Morecambe and Wise one. Hello mns, how're you dollface? I'm alright. Drinking tea and settling down for the finale of Geordie Shore, how man pet.

I'm not watching Geordie Shore as I paid a lot of money for my TV and don't want more of an excuse to put my foot through it after already watching Bonio from off of U2 pissing about at Glastonbury
I'm drinking a bottle of Ridley's Old Bob and recovering from fitness training with the Beaver Scouts.

I had a hard choice
between that High Society and An American in Paris...Oh and Calamity Jane! Oh I am my mothers child...

All I said was that Calam and Katie were massive dykes. They nearly cried.

I love that film, for the romance and for Audrey Hepburn.

Also romantic but in a very different way is 'Das Leben der Anderen' which is also a favourite.

I like inevitable
I hate twists. I generally enjoy films more when it's about how X happens, not what X is. Want to see The Way Back, which starts with a blurb that says "This film is based on a true story and is dedicated to the 3 survivors"... Without the twists and shit, the story has to step up .

Scott Pilgrim vs The World
It doesn't feel right having such a recent film as a favourite but it's like it was written specifically for me and the music's ace too.

Before that it was probably Airplane! because it's a proper classic.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:42, archived)
very clever film I thought
visually at least. It bombed though, didn't it? It did feel like it wasn't a proper film in some way though, maybe because it felt too original.
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:43, archived)
It didn't do that well at the box office, dunno if it's making it up on dvd though, could well be a cult hit.

(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:44, archived)

Airplane is also outstanding.

Yeah but there's that bit where they show the audience Ben Richards' supposed atrocities and it's cut from the same footage we, the audience, saw right.
Which basically suggests that a camera crew follows him round for the whole film. It just ruins the illusion. Oh and CHIIIIIICOOOOOOOOOO
(, Tue 28 Jun 2011, 21:51, archived)
Oh yeah: Brassed Off
Caught the end of it on C4 the other night. Pete Postlethwaite's speech in the Royal Albert Hall is very moving indeed.

I liked him.

I couldn't decide
if I wanted to be Claire, which is a fat girls name, or Allison who was like, TOTALLY weird.

blade runner (director's cut), for some reason i find it very soothing despite it being about killer replicons from beyond the moon

The Life Aquatic is my favourite film
It has Bill Murray in it and I love his melancholy face and deadpan-ness. I love the mostly-David Bowie score. I love the wide cinematography. I love the saturated colours. I love all the weird made-up animals and the faux-dramatic documentary bits. I love the typography. I always cry at the end bit with the shark.

It is very good
I think Willem Dafoe is excellent in it.

what happens at the end with the shark?

I can't tell you that
you'd have to watch it. No spoilers ;)

I won't know if I want to watch it unless you tell me what happens with the shark

it's a good film
I always preferred The Royal tenebaums though.
