# Im B3tarded and need a little help
* sorry if this is the wrong board to post this, but the peoples on the talk coard said that you lot may be able to help me out, please dont shout at me :) *

I was wondering if any of you could help me out. My little brother recently graduated from uni, and his only pics in the full swanky graduation clothes, complete with funky hat, were taken on a shit camera with bad lighting....and also taken by a slightly proud (i.e. tipsy ) dad.
I have photoshop, but am clueless as to what to do to improve the images and help make them all betters ( I know photoshop wont cure everything).
Any nudges in the right direction or links to tutorials would be greatly appreciated.
I kneel before you Mighty Users of Photoshop...........

Ta muchlyness :)

PS. I know this isnt a 'question and answer' session, but I made a promise I quite obviously can't keep :) and will reimburse anyone who helps with a box of jaffa cakes or if your vegetarian, jammie dodgers.

# haha. /talk sent you here for a bumming.
And on a Tusday. Those scamps.

Edit:/ add curve adjustment layers and brightnes/contrast adjustment layers. Just google adjustment layers and jpeg post-processing for tutorials. Too many words to explain here on the picture board.

# Talk aren't involved with the artistic side, just the community side.
It's only sensible these questions are asked here.
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:37, archived)
# Post them on here
I'm sure there's plenty of people waiting to help.

# not that much you can do,
filters and unsharp mask may at least help, worth a look at autolevelling too which is ctrl+a I believe, other than that and a few minor adjustments there really isn't that much that's available as an option.

Stage a fake one.
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:36, archived)
# Ctrl+Shift+L, I think, for Auto Levels.

A retake might not be a bad idea actually, though.
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:38, archived)
# you are right, ctrl +a is select all
MMMMNNNGGG haha
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:39, archived)
# but shirly you are wrong.
Photoshop is the best post-processing tool on the planet as long as you use adjustment layers instead of trying to doctor the original image.

# B3tards
I suggest this one doesn't get a bumming because s/he is so polite.

Mr Bumfish post the picture on here. You may be able to get help but then again you may find that the picture gets altered in a way that you might not like.
Either way it's worth a try.

Make sure the image is under 50kb though.

# If only there was a website
that let you search for the information you needed on the internet.

www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-gb&q=photoshop+tutorial

Although, in truth, if the photos are shit to start with then photoshop isn't going to do much. You might be able to fix some bad lighting, or straighten and crop badly framed pictures, but you can't polish a turd so to speak. Well, you can't polish it much.
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:39, archived)
# I'm going to prove that you can.
...actually, I'm not going to try.
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:39, archived)
# I'm not saying that it's impossible to take a shit photograph
and make it into something wonderful in photoshop, but generally speaking you need a decent source image to get a decent result.
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:43, archived)
# I meant about polishing shit.

# Have fun
with that.
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:48, archived)
# *fears the thought of another jaffa cake*
I'm not really a photoshop wizard, but I figure if you link to the pictures, people might be able to help you out, as it depends on the quality and so on of the original image.
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:39, archived)
# yeah, best have a jammie dodger then

adapted from someone else's pic, way back in history [edit: bloop's fleshlight, to be specific]
i blame /talk entirely for all this, you know
(, Tue 11 Dec 2007, 23:49, archived)
# I remember this!
I also still fear it, greatly.

# can't really post an image
its not a pic of me and tbh i know enough to draw a magenta cock on his head anyway :)

Seriously, thanks for the help though :)

P.S. If anyone really wants to then I have the pics on my bebo site and you can download them if you message me

# you are having a giraffe fella
There is not enough digital data to save there. It's too poor a capture to do more than highten the contrast, warm up and add a slight unsharp mask. It would look better but it's never going to gain pixel data. Best to paint it.
(, Wed 12 Dec 2007, 0:15, archived)

I just did done a good job on it so der

I used Adobe Photoshop Album Starter edition - free to download and has an "autofix" function that clears up pics (a bit)
