(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:07, archived)
# Oooh!
and 49K too! :D
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:08, archived)
# Can you tell...
*tchaw*
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:11, archived)
# ouch
didn't think the george cross was given for that as it's generally expected.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:08, archived)
# Georae Cross?
I don't get it.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:09, archived)
# Fuck SHit Boillocks
Not funny enough to fix, and this isn;t funny enoug to spell properly.

;O)
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:12, archived)
# :D
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:17, archived)
# oh, you total cunt.
that's funny.

Still, fair play to him for doing something unbeleivably, stupidly heroic for his mates and jammily surviving it.

If there's any justice he'll never have to pay for a drink again.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:09, archived)
# I concur,
I lost a mate in Afghanistan last year, and they are the most amazing people ever!

Props innit!
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:11, archived)
# Afghans?
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:15, archived)
# Don't be silly, coats aren't people.
My dad was homeless in London for a bit during his teens, and when he eventually came back home my great granddad burnt his afghan coat as it was riddled with fleas.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:17, archived)
# ...poor fleas
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:17, archived)
# I think that's exactly what I said when i was told about it.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:18, archived)
# The only Afghan I like is
what a mess :)

But soldiers are terrific!
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:17, archived)
# What-a-mess is ace.
My What-a-mess book has been to America and back.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:18, archived)
# Ha ha ha!
Next time, you should take yourself with the book :)
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:19, archived)
# Hahahah!
I don't think mofaha would be happy about that.
When he gave me his address, the condition was that I don't turn up on their doorstep :]
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:26, archived)
# Arf!
Well America is a very big place! You could go to other cities :)
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:27, archived)
# I could climb in through their window, though.
I wouldn't be breaking any rules that way.

Except, well, the law.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:29, archived)
# Afghan Cataracts?
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:21, archived)
# Afghan Ear cataracts?
Pfft!
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:22, archived)
# There being no justice
He'll probably end up flogging it for a bottle of whiskey.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:12, archived)
# Sad but true :(
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:17, archived)
# I can't believe no-one's said...
'LATRINE!'

...at least I think it's him...
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:10, archived)
# Is that from Top Secret?
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:13, archived)
# That's the one
I'm pretty sure it's Latrine who hurls himself on the grenade...
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:14, archived)
# the only one I can remember
is chocolate moose pfft
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:15, archived)
# 'Would you like me to translate?' - 'No, I know a little German'
*cue midget German*
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:48, archived)
# Wow. What a ridiculously noble thing to do.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:10, archived)
# he did set off the trip wire
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:12, archived)
# But still, to instinctively try and shield the blast like that. I'd have fucking pegged it.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:14, archived)
# really?
if you'd just made an error (albeit a small one) which was threatening the life of all of your friends who'd do the same for you?

Also they are trained to just do it.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:16, archived)
# I don't think anyone could say what they'd do unless they were in the situation. It's impossible to know how you'd react.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:19, archived)
# you could probably accurately recreate it
with a hackysac and a length of string...
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:21, archived)
# I'd probably react by saying:
"What the fuck am I doing in the army?"
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:26, archived)
# ^ This.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:34, archived)
# well of course
however i think actually the lack of time to decide is actually a help in that situation!
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:28, archived)
# All I know is if an enemy grenade landed at my feet
when I was serving I'd have said "sign that fucker up for the Yankees, we're 4 miles from their position!"

;)
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:47, archived)
# unless:
a) he also set it
or
b) it was a tripwire of "Police line: do not cross" tape and fairy lights

then I don't see this as being a major issue on the heroism front.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:14, archived)
# There should be more people like that :/
But can you imagine what his parents must have thought when they found out?
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:11, archived)
# I'm sure they thought,
Wow! We must be cracking parents to raise such an amazing boy!
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:12, archived)
# Well yeah, but also "Fuck, he could have been killed"
Which, I'd imagine, is what they'd have thought when he actually went to war in the first place :/
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:13, archived)
# Aye,
it is a very real possibility. :)

But as I said before, I lost a mate in Afgh last year and although we all knew it was a very real risk that he wouldnt come back, it was still a shock that he didn't....
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:16, archived)
# :[
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:18, archived)
# It's ok. He died doing what he loved!
*cliche alert*

And some good has come from it. His parents and all of us have raised £7,500 in 8 months for the Help for Heroes charity. And I would strongly urge people to donate to the charity if they can! They do a sterling job!
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:21, archived)
# what, fighting for very, very poorly defined reasons?
or just ensuring the rich in america stay rich?
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:24, archived)
# Well, that is obviously opinion which I wont get into.
Which is not to say that I support the war. But he believed in fighting for his country. He wasnt in charge and didn't sign up to fight in Afghanistan. He signed up to fight for what he believed in.

Blame the people who lead them to war all you like, but I think it is extremely unfair to blame the soldiers...
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:26, archived)
# When you consider that 90% of heroin in the UK comes from Afghanistan
I think it's right that we intervene in their affairs, tbh.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:31, archived)
# I really admire soldiers who go to war to fight and stuff.
I'd never go, though.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:24, archived)
# Aye,
I wouldn't have the guts to do it.
(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:28, archived)
# or

(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:16, archived)

(, Wed 23 Jul 2008, 17:14, archived)

He must have changed his name to that by Deed Poll.
