# Just thought I'd say:
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 9:47, archived)
# Who was/is this guy?
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 9:48, archived)
# CLEMANT F AN ANGLE IN HEVEN
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 9:51, archived)
# Well that was rather uncalled for.
At least CF actually did something of merit and had a discernable character.

But don't let that stop you mocking me - I am aware this is B3ta.
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 9:53, archived)
# but but but...
Everyone touches people's lives in a different way.

I'm sure those mourning Clement and Jade are two completly different sections of society. It doesn't make anyone's emotions any less valid.

I mocked those that mourned Diana but was cut to ribbons when Peel died
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 9:57, archived)
# but who is more justified in their public mourning...?
the Jade/Diana mourners or the John/Clement mourners...

there's only one way to find out!

# To explain...
Think of how people fawn over Stephen Fry. Now imagine that adulation being given to someone who merits it.

That person is Clement Freud.

# Why do we hate SF now?
After all it's not really his fault that morons bang on about how clever he is. As he said himself "I just have a good memory".

Sad about CF though :(
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 9:59, archived)
# I don't, I love him.
How can anyone not love him when he cries 'SPECKLED JIM!'?
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 10:02, archived)
# I don't hate him.
He's good at what he does. But, as your post indicates, I think that there's a gap between what he does and the praise heaped on him.

He's a reasonably clever, reasonably quick-witted person. But then, so are many others. With luck, Stephen Fry will turn into Clement Freud as the years pass.

EDIT: I like Hermione Eyre and Willie Donaldson's definition of Fry: "A stupid person's idea of a clever person".
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 10:03, archived)
# we dislike him now?
someone needs to give me these memos. does that mean we're allowed to like Geldoff again now?

As far as charmingly lovely goes I'd take Fry over anyone else on TV. how can you not love a man who says "Wo ist meine Handy?"
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 10:05, archived)

and not feel it necessary to follow the herd and try to fit in.
