# I fucking hate Twitter
twatter.com

I fucking hate the concept and the meaningless drivel that comes out of it. And to the next twat who asks me if I 'tweet', fuck off, no I don't fucking tweet. Twat.

Good to get that off my chest. Back to lurking.

# twitter is a god aweful waste of time
i saw a shirt in the store today saying "follow me on twitter" i feel like if i really saw someone wearing that shirt i would put a stick in their spokes.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 8:48, archived)
# FFS - I would be overcome with the urge to headbutt such a twat
Twitter. It's like a perfect sphere. Completely pointless

There's people giving out business cards with this shit on it. "You can follow me on Twitter". No. Fuck off. I would get as much enjoyment from pulling out my fingernails. The only reason I would follow you would be in the hope I get to see you run over by a bus.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 8:52, archived)
# What you are doing here is coming to a website
and giving out information on the most banal thoughts of your day. How many people really want to hear about your opinion on another website?

Your post is no different to tweeting, but it took longer to load and is on a board which is not for such blogging.

At least with idiots who tweet their opinions the audience is expecting it.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:00, archived)
# What you are doing is getting sand in your clitoris
because I've taken the piss out of something you like.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:05, archived)
# No.
I am merely amused that you chose to post stuff about the fact that you hate people posting stuff.

Admittedly you did not tweet it.

Bleat springs to mind.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:07, archived)
# Please point out the bit
where I said I hate people posting stuff ...

I missed that bit. It would be a bit ironic to have that attitude and be on b3ta ....

I like twitter, but I do not understand the appeal of facebook.

I think that, just maybe, you are missing the point of twitter.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 8:51, archived)
# please explain to us the magic of www.twitter.com
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 8:52, archived)
# There is no magic to it,
it is a convenient location for me and my friends to chat in an informal way.

We also use skype to chat in this manner, as a group, but twitter has the advantage that all my friends can be in the same chat and all their friends can too.

If I am talking to a friend then any mutual friends can see it, but people who do not know one or the other (or either) of us are not influenced.

I agree that 'I am making tea' blog style posts are toss, but it is more for @lordmanley style posts that I use it and it is a nice way to chat. Like facebook updates, but with aimed replies and none of the cack.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 8:56, archived)
# i guess maybe i dont know how to use it
i got bored with it too quickly though.

maybe i just need to have other friends on it.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:04, archived)
# Absolutely.
Many users collect followers and just put small updates on. I have 10 or so friends who I chat through during the day.

It is not for everyone, but it is a useful central location for communicating in a banal and meanigless way, without getting trapped like B3ta does to me ;¬)
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:06, archived)
# No
I don't use it because it's shit.

Big difference.

Facebook comes a close second.

# i think myspace is even worse than facebook
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 8:57, archived)
# I am afraid that I might have to just refer you to my last comment.
Certainly, I do not have any use for facebook, having flickr and email and a domain, but I understand that for others it is useful.

You not liking twitter does not make it 'shit'. It makes it shit for you and, frankly, you do not matter.

# Jokes are fine, but he simply said:
"I fucking hate Twitter" . . . "I fucking hate the concept and the meaningless drivel that comes out of it. And to the next twat who asks me if I "tweet", fuck off, no I don't fucking tweet. Twat."

I feel that warranted a response.

Also, his joke was that twitter sounds a bit like twatter, which is very clever.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:05, archived)
# IMO Twitter is for self-important twats.
Does this make me a bad person?
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:06, archived)
# No.
If you decided to post on a discussion board that you thought it was for self-important twats then I would discuss this with you, but I would still not think it made you a bad person.

For the record, I think that it is for self important twats, but I am a self important twat, so it is ideal for me.

No idea why. i never use them and hate them ALL with a passion. But Twitter takes the fucking biscuit. 'Twitter', 'Tweet'.... I mean... c'mon.... who the fuck thought this up??!!

(And before anyone says 'bur B3TA is 'social networking' site. Not to ME it isn't!)

# I remember when the whole blogging thing started out.
People described it - a web page that lets your update it with your thoughts and opinions - groundbreaking technology - it'll revolutionise the web.

Ah - so it's a web page that you can update then? Yeah, those have been around for quite a while now. The 'tweet' thing is just micro-blogging. It's the same old concept, but now with smaller updates. The people using it feel they ought to use it to express themselves using this 'new' technology, but as with any kind of media, only 99.9% have anything interesting to say. So it's stupid to blame website or the technology. Just blame everyone else for being so very dull.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:11, archived)
# I absolutely agree.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:15, archived)
# Yeah I'd agree with that too
It's not so much that Twitter is shit, it's that a lot of people who use Twitter are dull. I have a twitter account I've blogged about 3 times and none for about 6 months and yet I still get people following me on Twitter which is amusing in of itself.

I think you're genuinely the first person to notice that by changing one letter in the title of that website you can make an amusingly rude parody name for it.

I have no time for Twitter, but your post should have been left as an image. Your accompanying text makes it look like you're trying too hard, like an aging stand-up who keeps saying "what's that about?"
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:23, archived)

Someone complaining about meaningless drivel on the internet, posting meaningless drivel on the internet. Pfft.

# Hmmm
Is this like the 12 parsecs thing in Star Wars? Where Lucas writes something stupid, then comes up with an elaborate explanation of it later, suggesting that the Millenium Falcon is manoueverable enough to take an asteroid ridden shortcut?

Or, to put it less elaborately - no, you've just changed your mind and bluffed an excuse because you've misjudged a small but excessively vocal proportion of your audience. You'd have had more respect from me if you'd stuck your fingers in your ears and said "No, I still think it's rubbish and I had to tell everyone" and then blew a raspberry.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:57, archived)
# If that is true then that is cool
but I call bullshit on the irony.
(, Mon 7 Sep 2009, 10:36, archived)
# Well ...
I hope you didn't think that was a serious rant about twitter at the top ... I'm not that serious. Particularly on b3ta.

The hype around it and the "Ooh lok at me I'm doing something mundane" stuff is nauseating and I have no interest in it at all. Having said that .. pfft. I enjoy wasting plenty of time elsewhere.

# It's an absolutely fantastic tool for people to share with the world something about how great they are
with no evidence to back it up whatsoever.

As a platform for philosophers to get thoughts across its brilliant, but sadly most people aren't offering anything other than how much of a shouty cunt they are.

It makes the idiot masses feel like they are something more than a waste of time and resources on this planets surface.

# It, like anything else, has its uses
If you actually subscribe to the tweets (there, I said it) of people within your peer group who actually have useful things to say about stuff (web developers, in my case) it can be a useful networking tool, and a way of keeping up with trends.

Otherwise, yes, it's full of meaningless drivel, but what isn't these days?
