Very long (8 pages) Rolling Stone article about Goldman Sachs
Detailed but very readable and absolutley shocking stuff about G$.
"The first thing you need to know about Goldman Sachs is that it's everywhere. The world's most powerful investment bank is a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money. In fact, the history of the recent financial crisis, which doubles as a history of the rapid decline and fall of the suddenly swindled dry American empire, reads like a Who's Who of Goldman Sachs graduates." [Page 1]
"Taken together, the numbers show that Goldman essentially borrowed a $5 billion salary payout for its executives in the middle of the global economic crisis it helped cause, using half-baked accounting to reel in investors, just months after receiving billions in a taxpayer bailout." [Page 7]
"Converting to a bank-holding company has other benefits as well: Goldman's primary supervisor is now the New York Fed, whose chairman at the time of its announcement was Stephen Friedman, a former co-chairman of Goldman Sachs. Friedman was technically in violation of Federal Reserve policy by remaining on the board of Goldman even as he was supposedly regulating the bank; in order to rectify the problem, he applied for, and got, a conflict of interest waiver from the government." [Page 7 - my emphasis]
yeah, politics schmolitics.

Plays five seconds of each track. It's summat to do with the fact that
last week saw America's 1,000th number one hit the top of the charts since
it was first created in 1956. There are another couple floating around
somewhere playing tracks from 1956-92, but I'm damned if I can find them.
Edit:- Duhhhh, it links right to them. *self-spangs*

strange to try and class it as some condition, i would've thought most people experience this to some degree.
though i don't get the whole "watch someone else do something dilligently" thing.
there's lots of crap about this over the internets

I have just discovered a condition called 'eye-blankies'. Periodically throughout the day, some people notice that their eyes close spontaneously only to reopen a few milliseconds later.
It tends to happen in the following conditions:
-In the car
-When listening to music
-When cooking food
-when thinking about marsupials
I am going to make a survey that gets to the root of this by showing people videos and asking when people experience the phenomenon.
( , Sun 27 Feb 2011, 18:40, Reply)

Even though it's ill defined there seems to be something their some people can relate to while others can't. is it perhaps that some are simply more suggestable?
( , Sun 27 Feb 2011, 18:43, Reply)

If there are real patterns to the contexts that cause that sensation it would definitely be interesting to look into it! I just don't see their motivation for calling this thing a condition or for the experiment they're trying to conduct.
If I had to guess based on the non-academic and non-funded nature of the group, as well as the total lack of references to any medical or psychological literature, I'd say that the people involved were just talking on 4chan or reddit or some health-related message board about that 'tingly feeling' and decided to make a webpage about it.
( , Sun 27 Feb 2011, 20:00, Reply)

Listening to certain sections of music on a loop or watching someone draw can set if off. It's like a mild high. I suppose its quite common but would be interesting to know what causes it!

Long but interesting politics article about how much the richest 1-10% own compared to the bottom 90%. From 2005, so slightly the figures are slightly inaccurate but not much.
"In the United States, wealth is highly concentrated in a relatively few hands. As of 2007, the top 1% of households (the upper class) owned 34.6% of all privately held wealth, and the next 19% (the managerial, professional, and small business stratum) had 50.5%, which means that just 20% of the people owned a remarkable 85%, leaving only 15% of the wealth for the bottom 80% (wage and salary workers). In terms of financial wealth (total net worth minus the value of one's home), the top 1% of households had an even greater share: 42.7%. Table 1 and Figure 1 present further details drawn from the careful work of economist Edward N. Wolff at New York University (2010)."

Reminds of being a student sharing a house with a happy hardcore DJ. Sy was always my fav to see live and had dreamscape 9 with Sy on a tape in the car - played so many times on the way out for the night. Used to go to the Die Hard in Leicester Sy and Dougal were playing there a lot - wot an amazing place that was! E was literally dripping down the walls along with the sweat! good job part of the club had no roof cos it fell in!

My friend has started this project where you request a song about anything and he will make it. Since he started a month ago he's made over 300 songs so if you suggest something the likelihood of it getting made is rather high.
I've discovered its particularly useful to produce songs to bully friends with.

"Cole claimed he was unaware that the rifle was loaded"
A sentence that, far from being an excuse, merely goes to prove he's not competent to handle a firearm. He really should be getting a visit from the police for that.
That said, James Orr could use a lesson in what the different parts of a gun are called. "...complete with a muzzle"? I should bloody well hope so.

"Conservative Change Channel - Jonathan Lord: 'off the record'
Contains politics. Also includes audio of a Tory admitting that he took no discernible action against two of his candidates who smeared an opponent as a paedophile because there was an election in progress (and you know how something as innocent as smearing an opponent as a child rapist can be distorted by the opposition). Some mildly NSFW audio towards the end, but hardly worth a tag.
