bosses
after all the ribbing from /talk, i think my boss actually does have Crippling Undiagnosed Aspergers.
he is utterly inflexible; his only interest is the law - and i mean his ONLY interest. god help you if you get stuck next to him at a team outing - he has bizarre habits such as having to stir his tea 3 times, clockwise, only. he has a stupidly fixed routine, right down to the order of how he does everything in the morning, never mind how a file or instructions to counsel should be organised. i once got bollocked for using pink highlighter instead of yellow. he has precisely no small talk, cannot meet people's eyes, frequently offends colleagues and clients, and has an absolute obsession with washing his hands.
he is also fully single, and i suspect right at the back of the closet.
what is your boss like and does s/he make your world a happier or a sadder one?

So I move 140 miles away from home
And today while walking to work I see the father of one of the lads I coached back home.
"Bloody hell Will, what are you doing here?"
says he. He knew I was moving to Guildford, shouldn't I be the one asking that question?
Turns out my Mother had been round to his house a couple of days ago too. Spooky OoOoOo or something.

Right! I have a question
Which I may have asked before but what the hell.
I am looking for a pair of acceptable terms instead of "Boyfriend" and "Girlfriend".
As a few pointers, my G/F (for want of a better term) and I are 100 years old between us.
We do not live together (so that puts "partner" out of the equation).
How should we refer to each other in conversation?

Recipe Time!
Cowboy Casserole
At least 2 sausages per person
Beef Stock (1/2 cube per person)
Onion (Roughly 1 onion per person)
Pasta (as much as you like)
I recommend Lea & Perrins, but it's up to you.
Now here's the fun part...
(optional) red peppers, peas, green beans, baked beans. sweetcorn, anything like that - we went with red peppers, beans and sweetcorn, so i'll use them in the recipe
Preheat oven to about 180
Cook pasta, then leave on low until rest of recipe is ready
Fry the sausages in a fair amount of oil, just to brown them. Add half a diced onion for a couple of minutes, just to brown it.
Cut up the peppers & the rest of the onions roughly, and stick in the casserole dish with the sweetcorn.
Follow this up with the sausage, the fried onions and all the oil from the pan.
Drain pasta, and pour into dish
Pour boiling water into dish until it's about 1/2 centimetre about the food.
Then add the beans, this means the flavour sticks in the sauce, and doesn't just wrap around the pasta.
Season to your hearts desire! Lots and lots of pepper is required if you're doing a big dish. Stir thoroughly
Cook for about 30-40 minutes, stirring about every ten minutes.
Et voila! Dead easy to cook, and if it's done right, really really tasty!
Doesn't need to be served with anything, as all you need will be in the dish!
What you lot reckon?

A question for those of you either working in academia or with an in depth knowledge of the vagaries of academia
Can anyone tell me exactly what an Associateship Programme might do for ones career?
I ask because I've been offered the opportunity to take one up (for free - so I'll do it anyway). I suspect it's just a nice added extra with no real use other than being something the Uni can point to when they talk about offering 'added value'.
So, has anyone any experience of taking part in one of these or any idea of just what they are?

I'm not in a good mood this morning
And when you get a phonecall, first thing, with one of your pet hates (in my case being people eating down the phone at you) that does nothing for my mood. That, and people moaning needlessly. What are your pet hates, and why?

This is a bit random, but...
Just spoke to my sister this evening. It appears that she has advanced arthritis in her hip, and needs a hip replacement.
She's 35 next month.

Office boredom has hit a new height
We're composing little ditties... and I thought I'd share my effort with you lot.
Suggestions?
Trouble in cubicle 2
There’s trouble in cubicle 2
I really don’t know what I’m going to do
I went in for some private time
Which has lead me to compose this rhyme
I’m sat here with trousers round ankles
A situation which frankly quite rankles
Some may find my predicament quite droll
Because I’ve just realised- there’s no loo-roll!

We're composing little ditties... and I thought I'd share my effort with you lot.
Suggestions?
Trouble in cubicle 2
There’s trouble in cubicle 2
I really don’t know what I’m going to do
I went in for some private time
Which has lead me to compose this rhyme
I’m sat here with trousers round ankles
A situation which frankly quite rankles
Some may find my predicament quite droll
Because I’ve just realised- there’s no loo-roll!

baileys and frosties...
Good morning!
replaced milk with baileys in my cereal. I guess I could blame being a bored student with too much alcohol on his hands. Any other alcoholic breakfasts you guys can think of that would be worth trying?

Monday morning rant(ette)
Don't you just hate those cars - 4x4s almost exclusively that have a sticker in their back window that says: "I slow down for horses"
I can almost see the "...but I try to run cyclists off the road and consider it a good day if I can kill an Eastern European migrant worker. Oh, and by the way, I couldn't give a toss for the environment in general but GET ORF MY PROPERTY you oik"
What the fuck do they think the rest of do? Speed up and honk when you see someone riding a horse down the road?
EDIT: and that reminds me [sarcasm warning] - has anyone else noticed that we're becoming over-run with foxes! There are thousands of them all over the place, six moved into our street and I see dozens of them begging by the roadsides on my way to work every day.
They never should have banned hunting with hounds.

Names.
I'm a boring average man, with a boring average name. My colleague Luke answered the phone to somebody who said "They call me Rick Highland". OK, so he was a nob for introducing himself like that, but I am very jealous of his name. We're going to try and get him set up with one of our consultants, Maggie Storm, in an effort to get them to start a crime-fighting duo.
It's a coolest names thread. Get in.

Monday again
I've stolen TGB's sign as I couldn't be bothered making my own.
In you come.

My urethra is positively throbbing.
On account of how much I need to urinate right now.
