Hello wobblers!
Let's just skip to the replies.
Who can denounce b3ta's hero with the wittiest reply?

Go on. Show off in front of the single mothers.

Last night I introduced my friends
to the delight that is the Yorkshire Pudding.
I made 12, and between 4 of us we polished them all off, along with 3lbs of roast beef, tonnes of potatoes and lashings of gravy.
And 3 bottles of red wine.

Yay!

Behold, I am the king of geeks!
As BGB can attest, I'm pretty thoroughly geeky. But I temper it with an interest in a broad array of things.

For instance, I have a Stirling cycle engine. (Google for it- it's difficult to explain.) Basically it's a small desktop demonstration toy that turns a flywheel, powered by a bunch of ice cubes and the temperature of the surrounding air.

I brought the thing to the office, having repaired it last night (it had a rubber bit that had gotten old and broken), and have had a stream of engineers coming through to check it out.

This has led to discussions of alternative energy with a few of them. As we have an R&D department, it may be that I can persuade someone to get funding to build one of these to run off of seawater.

Now I just need to get the attention of the right person here...

Heh.

What you doing this evening?
Why do I ask? Because I'm a nosey cunt.

I'll be shoe-gazing at the ultimate night of indie music in Bristol.

And I might have a takeaway.

Beat that.

Does anyone know how banks work?
Im quite good with my pennies but after crimbo n'all I had to delve into my overdraft by £100 to keep me in alcohol and food and whatnot. I have reciepts to prove my overdraft was only minute, however, my statement arrived yesterday claiming I was £1,885 overdrawn!!!

I marched into the bank this afternoon and demnded an explanation. The banker man printed off a summary of my statement and sure enough it claimed I was only overdrawn by £100 and it must have been some sort of misprint despite the fact that it clearly states next to the imaginary value of my account 'direct debit'.

I couldnt be arsed arguing so I left, feeling quite stupid. I have my monies now but this isnt the 1st time that this has happened. Can someone shed some light on the matter please before I go insane? And will this affect my credit rating?

Bank = Natwest

Thank you all

Hello off topic!
Last night I, quite drunkenly, sent a message to this bloke I fancy via myspace.
Now that I'm sober I'm incredibly embarrassed and have decided to delete my myspace. I'm not even sure why I have one in the first place =/

ANYWHO, the point is that I had to do some crazy shizz like 'make a salute' because I needed to change the email address first. This included taking a picture of myself with the url on a sign beneath my face and attaching the file because they take privacy 'very seriously'.

Now, when did the world get this serious?

Pedants corner
Can I just say, "definitely" please?

"Definately" is wrong.

And it's "could have" or "should have" etc.

Not "could of".

Reminder: York Bash - Tomorrow
Just a bit of last minute bash-whoring.

Tomorrow, there will be a bash in York. This will be a chance to not only meet some of b3ta's living legends in the flesh, but to also see the city of York. Anyway, if you're going, it might be a good idea to gaz me your mobile number in case you need some help finding us.

See ya tomorrow...

With regard to the current Image Challenge,
I once heard that when the Soviets were at was with Afghanistan, they had the same problem with suicide bombers that the Americans currently do. They overcame the problem by wrapping the remains of the bomber in pork and burying them 20 feet underground, facing away from Mecca. Magically the bombings stopped.

Not sure if it's 100% true, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if it was a ruthless Soviet problem-solver.

It's my Birthday next week and I shall be 27

What should I ask for?

I'm a bit stumped, but perhaps you clever people know of some excting gadget that has escaped my attention.

Some facts: I am a chap, I don't have a musical bone in my body, girlfriend says I'm not allowed a PS3 etc, I don't like fish.

Thanks

question
To all you fine british b3tans out there...

Vampyrecat and I were having a discussion this afternoon about Britain in general. In particular, British food. You have some interesting concoctions (eg... what exactly is a scotch egg?) and so the question was posed....

Excluding curry (because that's not yours, despite what British tourists often think), what is Britain's national dish?

So anyway
Someone has mailed me, no idea who she is, she thinks I'm someone else. I got this:

Hey D

How's the weather?

Here I am in the library, writing an e-mail.Coming home, hurdling back
10.5 hours felt a lot like time travel. The first day of Hampshire classes, the
campus closed because of snow (strangely, it was the only campus to close).
There's ice on the ground and piles and heaps and stretches of snow.

I am meeting with DK tomorrow. Do you have a message for him?

My older brother is going to be in V for a few days beginning Feb. 5th.
He graduated from N this past year and has been traveling in
Nepal/India since mid November. I am going to give him your e-mail and maybe if
you are missing Americans you two can chat on a ghat.

I think being back would be easier if the goats on the farm had more
sweaters...perhaps I'll go sweater them some night?

Enjoy the weather,

M

I have course replied. See more

thank you
Do report back on the pubs near Covent Garden.

I have actually been to both places by Tate Modern! Nice recommendation.

And will check Brick Lane, as well. Thanks to all who replied.

School story?
I read this story a few years ago, and since discovering b3ta, have wondered if the author has ever posted on here - if the link doesn't work, I'll copy and paste the story into the replies.

www.expats.cz/prague/showthread.php?t=50286&page=2&pp=10

(As it is not my work, I'm not putting it in the main QOTW, although I think it is very relevant to it!)

For anyone who has ever wondered
This

is what the naughty step looks like.
So you'd best behave yourself, or you'll get in big trouble, and the little kitteh will make you sad.

Tell you what, as I'm here, why don't we make this the evening

HOME SWEET HOME thread. I promise I'll be nice.

sickie / request
B3tards:

Have taken the day off from office, mainly to drink beer. Life is good!

I am taking my little brother overseas before he goes to tech. college in a few weeks. He has never been outside of US. This must be corrected.

I posted this down-thread in HSH last night, so here goes again:

Requesting: suggestions for London - pubs/galleries/Indian grub. Prefer things not touristy...if your local is good, give a shout.

cheers

Listen, I'm not on here very much any more for two good reasons.
One is that it is shit, and the other is the impending closure of this board.
Now I'm prepared to accept you into my fan club over on /talk in time, but what we must firstly get out of the way is the GLORY of /QOTW.

What's good about /QOTW, and in particularly 'off topic'?
Why do you post here, and not on a better board?

Let b3ta's hero read your views on the matter.
Let's try and keep on topic. No fat birds.

He's died today, aged 60.

Comic number three is up!
You Make Me Do This

Constructive criticism is, as always, welcomed.

Yes, I know my last comics are very XKCD like, although I like to think of them as a pale imitation.

I need some fluff in my life
As such would love a wee little kitty.

However, I live in a flat without garden access which gives me moral dilemmas.

I'm aware that house cats exist, however I wouldn't like to make a cat a house cat. I would happily rescue a house cat but Battersea cats home basically told me to fuck off.

What is the concensus on house cats? Do I need two so they aren't alone all day? Or is the whole thing against nature?

advice please oh wise B3tans
EDIT: I've just been told that the building has a no animals whatsoever rule in the contract that all landlords have to obey, so looks like I have to get rid of my rats. Now I'm all sad.

I posted this in HSH but it got ignored
So I'll post it here...

I know quite a lot of you are in bands or are DJs or whatnot, so if you would like to play at a small festival in Hampshire in August, gaz me some details about your musical efforts.

If you're not musical but fancy pitching in I have plenty of opportunities for site crew, stewarding and first aiders, and probably some more stuff I've forgotten. I am something of a slave driver but you will get two square meals a day and it's the sort of hard work that's a lot of fun!

More details on the festival when we get the first press release out in a week or two.

Doing the rounds at the moment..
Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more of expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take more and more expensive credits, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will lead to bankruptcy of banks, which will have to be nationalized, and the State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism"

Found something
During my morning furtle, just before I got in to the shower, I found something on my balls. Its not good. I showed my girlfriend and the look of horror on her face said it all.

I looked closer, felt around a bit more, and theres no getting away from it. I think I'm dying.

I have TWO grey pubes.

Today was a good day.
I persuaded my boss not to lay off my coworker, and instead cut back on $2K a month worth of advertizing that only gets us 10% of our traffic. He agreed.
I put forward a pricing restructure proposal that will get us more business that my coworkers agreed with.

I went to the pub after work, and an old friend showed up just to say hello.
I got home and made a tasty dinner (sausage & pasta bake smothered in cheese......mmm...carbs!) and then ate half a pint of Ben & Jerry's Dublin Mudslide ice cream.

Weather is due to be 70+ degrees F tomorrow.

My boyfriend just sent me a text saying "I love you and wish you were in my bed tonight".

I have a purry cat on my lap, and am finishing up two reviews for justanothermobilemonday. In 10 minutes, I get to go to bed and read before falling asleep with a happy, productive day behind me and looking forward to tomorrow.

Yeah. Today was a good day.
