That thread is too long
My wife went in the premature labour on Wednesday afternoon. She has been in since then with contractions that they have just managed to stop thankfully. They have been filling her with steroids to help the babies lungs develop as they are sure that it will be coming early. I haven't slept since Tuesday am am really beginning to feel it.

Whats the longest you have been awake for? Why? What was it like?

I am pretty sure this has been asked before so alt question is... Men would you get a vasectomy? Women would you get your tubes done?
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:23, 79 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
Alt answer: I will be having my own babby in August *prouds*
yes, once I have two, tubes are getting a knot
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:25, Reply)
Bit late for me to get my tubes done now.
My eggs are probably all manky by now.

Good luck for you and the Mrs though.

56 hours. just because. It was pretty weird by the end to be honest.

I am toying with the idea before I can accidentally have any kids.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:27, Reply)
Best of luck to you, the missus and the kid
My longest time with no sleep was around the 60 hour mark. I was in hospital with a broken leg, and just could not sleep as I was in discomfort the whole time. In the end the nurses gave me something to help me sleep, but before then I was dopey as anything.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:31, Reply)
Hope all goes well for you, your wife, and your baby, my thoughts are with you.
(for whatever that might be worth)

Longest awake without any sleep at all, 48-50 hours. (I worked for an oil company in the 1980's boom and we were on call 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. It was crazy. I commony was up for two days at a go).

A lot of nights when waiting for a gas well to come in I was able to get an hour or two "nap" in my company truck and sometimes I would be going for three days like this. It was nuts and unhealthy as hell. we all chain smoked and drank gallons of coffee.

Back home now?

Been home a while, I leave for CA the 31st. Should be traveling about a week a month this year.
Way too much. Hotels (even good ones) suck.

Hope all goes well fella. How's Akira being with it all?
I've been awake for 48 hours before, drank the sun up at a festival, was a good laugh.

Alt Q: Once I've had 3 kids, I'll consider it.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:35, Reply)
Akira has been with Kayleighs mum in Bodmin
but I'll go and get her today, She's been good as gold apparently which is odd because she's a little brat at home!

Been awake for several days and nights
towards the end everything feels dreamlike and you do stupid things.

Alt Q: I'd get it done now if anywhere would do it

(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:48, Reply)

My mum would murderise me though.
And thanks in advance for any offers to help snip me, very kind but no.

(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 15:00, Reply)
Eek, I hope she and the baby are alright
although I believe you said she was 7 months recently, so that's premature but not uber premature. They should both be absolutely fine if there's no other complications.
I stayed awake for about 50 hours once, was going on holiday to the US and couldn't sleep on the plane or once we got there. I don't function at all well without sleep and was starting to go a bit mental.

Alt - no, probably not. It's quite invasive for women, I believe, certainly more so than it is for men - if I was in a relationship and couldn't risk/afford anymore kids or whatever, I'd ask my other half to consider it. If he wouldn't, then surely two forms of contraception should pretty much negate any chance of getting pregnant? It's worked for me so far.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:43, Reply)

(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:59, Reply)
Why would I care about being polite to berk?
1) I'm married, so no chance of any norkage
2) berk doesn't do the sex anymore so point 1 is moot anyway
3) we're totally best "Going to see Pulp at the Wireless Festival in teh summer Buddies" so she loves me and won't think I'm a bastard for making a funny joke.

you listen to Yngwie Malmsteen deliberately and for pleasure.

With this in mind your opinions on music are irrelevant. You also like a band called 'Therapy?' (their question mark), and they're fucking IRISH.

yes, I suppose if you swap condoms for abstinence that pretty much describes the current situation.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 15:25, Reply)
Condoms are all well and good
And don't get me wrong, a necessity until you're in a longterm relationship and both tested, but they are massive moment-killers.
It's all going passionately, clothes are being shed, hold on a minute love while I root around in the drawer to find one and "wrap it up before I slap it up".

I think it was around 63
Going out late, starting work at 4am not sleeping, barely eating.

I remember thinking a heard of black cats was following me everywhere. It was pretty weird. Then my friend suggested we have a spliff and I took about two tokes and happily passed out. Only to be woken three hours later by a deer SCREEEETCHING outside my window
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 14:57, Reply)

some people know if they definitely do/don't want kids
but i think quite a lot feel like i do - omg worst thing in the world right now, but equally wouldn't like to be told it's never going to happen. so no, i wouldn't do anything drastic.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 15:34, Reply)
As soon as people think it might not be possible,
they start to want them desperately, it seems. My sister cannot have kids for *medical reasons* and the subject is pretty much taboo.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 15:36, Reply)
As soon as people have kids they start palming them off on other people
because they're little brats.

How old is your Daughter now? Mines about to turn three and I am sure she is evil.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 15:42, Reply)
Mine's three in July
and is the sweetest, funniest little child I have ever met. She's extremely polite and pleasant-natured to a degree I have never seen before.

How long this will continue I cannot say, of course. Equally, I only see her once or twice a week so I get the best of her, I'm sure.
(, Fri 21 Jan 2011, 15:45, Reply)
Mines three in a couple of weeks
and is also sweet, kind, polite and pleasant natured which is why I am sure she plotting something.

Unless she's tired then she's a brat.

I am amused and appalled in equal measures
how naturally deception and exploitation come to my kid - she's learnt from the best, of course - she tries it on big-time when she wants something and has already sussed me out as a soft touch.

I thought after the wife came off the pill it would take quite some time for her system to get back to normal
this was a mistake, it took 3 months and she's up the duff.

She's been told there is a very high chance
