How many of those do you fall for? It seems to me, most people have a supermarket that they like and they use that one. Or are you a supermarket whore? Do you have 'staff' that do that sort of thing for you?
Why don't they just make their fucking fuel cheaper in the first place?
Alt: Is there a difference in quality between brand names and places like Aldi?
Alt Alt: Why is everyone banging on about xmas music? It's fucking November!

supermarket diesel puts my car's engine into "reduced performance mode" ... which is a bit of a shitter, all told.
Alt: well, clearly in petrol. But I quite like Aldi for some things.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 10:46, Reply)

The stuff's shit. My engine pinked like a motherfucker the one time I put supermarket petrol in. It was Sainsbury's too, nothing like Tesco pikey stuff.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 10:49, Reply)

Then again, I never use proper petrol stations. Maybe my little car is too fucked now to notice any difference.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 10:51, Reply)

Battered to fuck on the outside, full of dog hair on the inside, I don't clean and polish it more than once a year, and would never be able to sell it.
On the other hand, it's a diesel with 75k on the clock, engine runs really well, and it's far too good to scrap.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 10:56, Reply)

It won't be relying on a bunch of sensors taking readings within certain parameters in order to balance the fuel/air mix.
Which is why mine and badger's cars are such screaming nancies about their fuel. Supermarket fuel is lower quality so it doesn't give out the right readings. The sensors report faults and the ECU goes into safe mode because it thinks the engine is about to explode.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 10:59, Reply)

Proper old clunky beast, my little car.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 11:02, Reply)

Diesels that meet Euro IV are a lot more sensitive to fuel quality hence they have to have electronic matrickery to deal with shit. If I put supermarket fuel into mine, pretty much every time I get about 20 miles down the road and get a "bing" and a message on screen saying "warning! reduced performance mode" and the car won't rev above 3000rpm or drive above 55mph until I refill with better fuel.

but charge less for it, go figure .
If you want to pay more so all your fruit and veg is the perfect shape, even though you're going to peel it and chop it up anyway, more fool you.
Morrisons miles are a con as well, it works out you have to spend nearly £700 to get £5 off
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 10:57, Reply)

but mostly because it's cheap, and the closest, and they sell certain things taht the other ones don't. They also have the cheapest fuel in town, according to petrolprices.com, so I just get my fuel from there too.
I don't think of it as 'spending money to get a £5 voucher', I think of it more as 'getting a £5 voucher occasionally'. Usually only once or twice a year, the way I go through fuel.

Indicating that you changed channels before. The only reason you'd bother changing channels is if you thought you were getting interference from another wireless router. Which I'm pretty sure you were the last time yyou were talking about your router on here. Therefore, you changed it back to a channel on which you previously thought you were getting interference. My question is why?
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 11:33, Reply)

I also took my mobile off the router, which may have helped
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 11:35, Reply)

Maybe, it depends on how often it was using data. If you had GPS on, for example, it would route that through the wireless.

A lot of their stuff is shit but if you are clever you can get some excellent stuff in those cheapo places, which is lucky seeing as I am an uberpovvo these days. There is a Tesco Metro by my flat which is fucking DREADFUL. Really, really expensive and really, really shit. I hate Tesco with a passion, they're total cunts.

Also, I've bought and sold 3 times around London. Every time the solicitors fucked up the financials. Twice in their favour, so I pointed this out gently and got the money back. Once, £9K in my favour, so I didn't mention it and they never noticed.
When property solicitors consistently can't do a sum that Monty's daughter would get right 9 times out of 10 you need to seriously worry about them as a species.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 11:49, Reply)

we have a brilliant resi team, but they would be three times the price that lighty needs to pay for this kind of deal.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 11:51, Reply)

but fucking seriously? it is SUCH a simple piece of maths and they never get it right.
And, oh, call me cynical, but up here, where everything is simpler and transactions are fixed fee and solicitors have no vested interest in delaying stuff, everything remarkably takes place smoothly with very few errors. I can't imagine why.

I almost always go to them. I've been to the big Sainsburys once but it's a bit of a trek, and there's a Waitrose about 15 minutes walk away I've been to a couple of times. Where I lived in Birmingham I had a Sainsburys Local on the groundfloor, a Tesco Metro 2 minutes away and a giant Asda on the drive home, so they were used mostly in that order.
It's all about the convenience for me.
I've been impressed with some of the stuff I've got from Aldi in the past, though.

that your mobile was actively blocking your wireless.
( , Tue 20 Nov 2012, 12:03, Reply)

an 802.11g router only gives 54Mbps max, or 6.75MB shared between all the wireless devices, so if you've 10MB coming in and the phone steals some then your laptop will get less.
If you don't move around much wired is better than wireless, especially for video streaming .

Go to crucial.com and run their test, find out what the thing will take, then Google and see if you can get it cheaper .
Fitting is easy , usually under a flap on the base, just clicks in (clip on each end). Be careful of static , touch a water pipe just before you do it.
