 Hot Beverages
Hot BeveragesMa' has asked for her birthday for a coffee grinder. Normally she just has normal coffee that you mix with hot water in the mug, but I think she wants to be able to make posh coffee.
What sort of thing would she need to make a cup? Sure, the grinder, but does she need one of those things you push down on? Is there any really nice types of coffee beans that you can recommend? Are those machines where you use the capsuals any good? If anyone can point me in the right direction, that'd be fab.
How do you take your hot beverage?
I'm also gonna get this (with a usb hard drive) and download all her favorite shows too: www.ebuyer.com/461717-philips-hmp5000-hd-wireless-media-player-hmp5000-12

Don't bother with the capsule machines, they're not worth it.
Don't bother with the capsule machines, they're not worth it.Get a proper coffee machine with a jug and a filter and that. The thing with a plunger is a cafetiere, only really useful for one mug at a time.
You don't need a grinder as you can buy ready ground coffee, although it's not quite as nice as beans you grind yourself, it's still much better than granulated.
You're welcome.

 cafetieres are fine.
cafetieres are fine.get a bigger one if you need to. Fresh ground is indeed way nicer than ground and bagged and grinder is less than a tenner and can also be used for herbs and spices although having a separate one is best. Get beans from a wanky deli or farmers market and keep in the freezer. No need for a machine particularly as she lives alone

Plus with a machine, you can put the water and coffee in before you go to bed
Plus with a machine, you can put the water and coffee in before you go to bedthen set the timer to brew it for when you get up.
This mean you don't have to shuffle downstairs in your pants and slippers and get ground coffee all over the kitchen when you don't seal the grinder properly due to being half asleep.

I have a filter pot in my officeits a cheap tefal one, which you can pick up for about 15-20 quid, to be honest they are all much of a muchness so I would suggest getting a half decent cheap filter machine and then spending more on a range of coffees. If you can get Blue Mountain thats a great one. Or for everyday drinking I tend to get Lavazza.

I bought mr b3th one of these a few years agoIt's proper good. http://www.aeropresscoffee.co.uk/ Bit fiddly, maybe, but if you're not going to drink a whole cafetière's worth, it's okay.
Once you've got good beans, the main thing to remember is not to use boiling water.
I drink tea, myself. Pint mug of tea, non-lactose milk, laaaaaaarvely.
Or green tea without milk. That's good too.

I have a Cafetière, one of those little stove-top pots a bodum single cup drip thingy and 2 filter coffee makersI used to keep some instant about the place for emergencies and philistines, but it went mouldy because no emergency is so great it necessitates drinking instant and none of my friends are coffewrongs.
I also have a little grinder so I can grind my own beans.
despite this, I do not consider myself particularly 'into coffee' I just like a cup of coffee from time to time and view nescafe as a vaguely coffee flavoured soft drink for women and school children.
