I need a new CD player.
Should I research this subject or just buy the cheapest one they have in Richer Sounds?

Yeah but seriously, my CD player doesn't work properly anymore and I need a new one.

I'm still rocking the Denon midi system I got for my 18th birthday
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:27, Reply)
That's because you're an idiot.

It that way

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:31, Reply)
On the face of it, it looks like in every way.

Car radios sounded better than mini systems.

can you read?

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:31, Reply)
Not if you buy 12 of them

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:31, Reply)

I think I've got one somewhere you can have.

I saw something the other day that said Walkmans were making a comeback

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:25, Reply)
Fucking Walkman prick

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:31, Reply)
Do you live closer than Richer Sounds?

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:27, Reply)
I'm cheaper than Richer Sounds *shrugs*

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:33, Reply)
Yeah you are you tight cunt.
Why can't I just have your CD player for nothing? You're not using it? Why do youexpect me to shell out a hundred quid for something you don't even want? fucking hell Monty, I thought we were mates?
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:35, Reply)
You can, you prick.
That's what 'you can have it' means you dopey turd.

PS it might not work
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 15:13, Reply)
I had a wicked portable one growing up that wasn't much bigger than the CD itself
and on the headphones was a remote control that came up with track names.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:29, Reply)
I've got one of them too
but I want one that can sit on top of my receiver and play through my big speakers and sound good.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:31, Reply)
Don't buy the cheapest one.
A decent one will cost about 150 to 200. You won't notice much difference over that sort of price unless you're willing to start talking about sound stages and use gold plated cables and other such things that make normal people think you're probably lying.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:31, Reply)
THere is a Cambridge Audio one for about £120 or a TEAC for about £100.
My dad has a Cambridge Audio system and it sounds fine.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:32, Reply)
What model's the Cambride Audio one?

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:32, Reply)
a TOPAZ CD5 V4 apparently.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:33, Reply)
That's a pretty good entry level system.
Better than the TEAC, I reckon.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:36, Reply)
My amp is Cambridge Audio. It's pretty good.

I'm totally feeling swayed to spend an extra twenty quid here.
I just got told my mrs got a parking fine for leaving the car in the car park and not telling me so I could put a ticket on it on my way past.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:37, Reply)
what a dick

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:39, Reply)
Dunno how much you're willing to spend
but the Cambridge Audio Azur 340C is one of the best budget CD players on the market. Should cost about 150 quid.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:40, Reply)
You don't seem to be able to buy these anymore.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:44, Reply)
I guess I'm a bit out of date :(
The Topaz must be the replacement, then.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:46, Reply)
I don't think there is a replacement.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:48, Reply)
At any rate, if you go for the Topaz you're certainly not going to be disappointed.
Cambridge Audio have been the entry level yardstick for yonks.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:49, Reply)
Right decision made. I'm gonna get one of them this weekend.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:52, Reply)
Audiophiles are the worst people in the world, they are also fucking chumps

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:39, Reply)
THere was a guy on here, it might have been Lokesy actually,
who tried to convince me that the power cable you used on your amp could actually make a difference to the sound quality.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:40, Reply)
Haha brilliant.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:41, Reply)
As someone who sneers at 'audiophile' shit, I have to say that when I bought decent speaker cables the difference was enormous.

Like my cock.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:45, Reply)
THere is a difference between using bell wire and using the stuff that costs a 2-3 a metre
but there is no discernable difference between that and the stuff that costs £10 a metre.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:47, Reply)
But... gold, Al. GOLD.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:49, Reply)
Is less conductive than copper.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:50, Reply)
Dunno, I use hemp for my speaker cables.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 15:02, Reply)
In which case, gold will be a serious step up in sound reproduction for you.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 15:03, Reply)

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 15:14, Reply)
Gold is just to stop the connectors corroding
Using it anywhere else is BS.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 15:20, Reply)
Although the funniest example by fat is gold plated Toslink connectors
Which are fibre optic, so the gold does the square root of fuck all.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 15:22, Reply)
It's an engineering thing.
The standard cables are cheaply manufactured, so you'll get badly made connections, which is the point at which you'll lose quality. Once you're in the price point of getting decently manufactured terminals, you're pretty much at the pinnacle. Anything more expensive and it's pure profiteering.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:48, Reply)
Like wine:
£2.99 and £10 wine - chalk and cheese. £20 wine and £2k wine - at best cheese and cheese, quite possibly cheese and vinegar.
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:53, Reply)
Not sure where I'm going with this analogy

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:56, Reply)
Cheese

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:56, Reply)
I was thinking cheese and vinegar.......PICKLED ONIONS!!!!!

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 15:05, Reply)
Pretty much, yeah.
Law of diminishing returns, innit. It'll be the difference between a Stilton and a Roquefort. At best an expert might be able to tell the difference, but most people will think "it tastes like blue cheese, you lying fucking snob"
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:58, Reply)
the thing about cheese is that there's a lot of difference in the texture
whereas wine is all wet

(unless it's dry, hahaha)
(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 15:08, Reply)
When did you buy your new cock then?

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:49, Reply)
After I snapped the old one off in your wife's shitpipe.

(, Thu 27 Jun 2013, 14:53, Reply)
I wondered what the blockage was
