Yo.
I'm coming out of DJ retirement next Friday for my first proper gig in a couple of years.
When did YOU last come out of DJ retirement next Friday for your first proper gig in a couple of years?
Alt: I think I'm going to play it safe and play funk records. Everyone likes them, right?
EDIT I'm actually a bit nervous.

Not initially.
At my peak I was getting Β£100-150 an hour, those days are long behind me.
I think the crowd are going to be a bunch of Nakers-style popped-collar Fogle pricks. They will fucking hate my records because I don't have any 'Black Eyed Peas' or 'Pitbull'.

My problem being that they're shit.
I like the cut of George Clinton's jib, though, and Maggot Brain is one of the best LPs evoire. But all that Parliament guff is shite. One of the worst live acts I've ever seen, too.

Yup you're right but the music is noticeably different.
The Parliament stuff is slicker and more disco-ey, the Funkadelic records were more 'out there' and in some cases unlistenably so, but at least not gay. 'Maggot Brain' was in the top ten rock records of all time in some poll or other - Rolling Stone or something like that. 'Super Stupid' could easily have been Hendrix, Eddie Hazell was a great player.

Although the funniest example by fat is gold plated Toslink connectors
Which are fibre optic, so the gold does the square root of fuck all.

It's an engineering thing.
The standard cables are cheaply manufactured, so you'll get badly made connections, which is the point at which you'll lose quality. Once you're in the price point of getting decently manufactured terminals, you're pretty much at the pinnacle. Anything more expensive and it's pure profiteering.

Like wine:
Β£2.99 and Β£10 wine - chalk and cheese. Β£20 wine and Β£2k wine - at best cheese and cheese, quite possibly cheese and vinegar.

Pretty much, yeah.
Law of diminishing returns, innit. It'll be the difference between a Stilton and a Roquefort. At best an expert might be able to tell the difference, but most people will think "it tastes like blue cheese, you lying fucking snob"

the thing about cheese is that there's a lot of difference in the texture
whereas wine is all wet
