My favourite moment in recent weeks was getting my wood burning stove fitted
I can now burn shit and drink whilst doing it

Alt:
I'm training for the Great North Run at the moment so lots of running. Off out either tonight or tomorrow for 7.5 miles

AltAlt:
I put up a new kitchen light last night. Nobody died

The reviews of the place online were at best, inconclusive.
He's got some experience behind a bar and a small amount of actual 'running the fucker' experience.

Top acquisition yon woodburner.
Had one for two years now. HAD TO buy a pro table saw and a woodshed. Hours of blokery going on.
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:07, Reply)
I built my woodshed
Need a decent saw though - recommendations?
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:09, Reply)
Recently got a Woodstar ST12 from Screwfix (not a dating site)
It's excellent with a powerful induction motor but it's expensive just for a firewood cutter. I use it for joinery as well so I can justify the outlay to she who must be justified to. In the past had a Clarkes 10" table saw, quite adequate. Also have an Evolution sliding mitre saw from BandQ, good too. A lot depends on what type of wood. Much of mine is scrap from house renovation.

Also, in response to badgers question about a cambridge pub,
cahnces are they're being vague as the sales aren't there, so they want to get a manager in, to keep the doors open while looking at either selling up, and acquiring something else.
Or, they like him and think he's good enough to maybe try and pull it around. Ask around the pubs nearby and find out if is only the prices holding them back, or whether previous management were just shit. People will go to more expensive places ifthey're good enough.

Favourite moment:
Last Saturday when camping, my kid was having such a magical time that she asked,wide-eyed 'is this real'? I nearly wept, big softie that I am.

Alt: I used to go running, fucking hated it. I used to walk down the canal to Angel each day, liked it but seem to have just stopped. I could lose half a stone I reckon. I hate sport and exercise with a passion but appreciate that it is necessary for good health.
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:02, Reply)
I rather liked the camping story
Might get a tent up in the back garden and do that soon

fat burning and muscle toning
not weight loss. i don't really want the scales to move, as i'm bang in the middle of a healthy weight range (MORE so now that the gym measured me at 5'7", hoorah, i've always thought i was 5'6)

but i want to be in much better shape, and to be a better shape. it's all too unevenly bunched up and i have stupid chicken legs and arms (not wings).
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:03, Reply)
fair enough,
i'm in the same situation really, but i'm sticking to weight training, all that personal trainer stuff looks like torture, and i enjoy lifting.
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:05, Reply)
you sound to know what you're doing though
i don't - i get stuck in a rut and then i get bored. i want to learn more about it. lifting is good, but the bars scare me a bit, i need the PT to help me. she made me do about 20 mins of boxing last night, it was fucking brilliant.

afterwards she said, "tough day, was it?!"
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:08, Reply)
i only know what i'm doing from asking other people that lift, and youtube videos for form,
and a bit of research.. There are whole programs out there written for you, starting strength, and tone up and super bulk and everything. Personal trainers are good if you need motivation though, i know i found it hard to get in to the gym at first.
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:10, Reply)
it's hard if you've worked from 8-8 to get off your arse and haul it to the gym, and your current job's much more physically tiring than mine
i'd like to think this 8 weeks will meet my goal of toning up and reshaping my waist, then i can keep in touch with the trainer for a touch up every other week or so, but have the knowledge to do it myself.

there are some really good plans online. i got into running by the couch-5k plan; prior to that i always set off too fast and got disillusioned.
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:13, Reply)
Running is good
It makes me relax as my brain switches off from sensible stuff
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:15, Reply)
yeah, if i'm honest i'm struggling to get to the gym more than twice a week at the moment,
which sucks donkey balls, but i'm in no real hurry, i can tone up slowly for now, then when my schedule settles down, get in to going 4 or 5 times a week.
I need to decide whether i'm going to lean down, or just go on a bit of perma-bulk and get all muscly.
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:17, Reply)
perma-bulk means you can eat moar

(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:19, Reply)
yeah, but then i don't really want to be a big muscley freak man,
i work with a guy that is a powerlifter, and i just don't see that body shape suiting me.
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:23, Reply)
too much is horrific
but nice muscles are nice
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:29, Reply)
The problem seems to be that it is a one way trip.
Either you maintain those muscles forever, or you turn into a fat mess.
I'll stick with skinny, thanks.
(, Wed 24 Jul 2013, 11:41, Reply)
I have a cousin who used to be a body builder maybe25 years ago.
He's now just a wee fat bloke. Muscle turns to fat - there's no hiding from it.

All he's ever wanted to do, pretty much from the word go, has been to bounce and run and generally move a lot more than being in braces would've allowed.
Fortunately they decided after a couple of hip scans that he was ok.

Idiotic sports - cricket, football, basketball.

Alright Winders
My favourite moment in recent weeks (beaker alert) was, of course, my album launch on Saturday. I'm usually very modest, but fuck it, we were ace. Buy my album.

Alt: In around 2009ish, for the first time in my life, I became 'the right weight for my height'. This manifested itself in a round belly that did not suit my scrawny frame. I spent about six months or so getting up and going for a five minute run each morning and refusing any cakes or whatever else came around at work. That seemed to work for me.

No-one would have believed
in the last years of the nineteenth century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of quiche. No-one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized, as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other foodstuffs. And yet, across the gulf of the table, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes; and slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us.

Swipey could make herself richer by listening to me, instead of paying some pretty bellend spouting SCIENCE at her.
Eat healthy food in reasonable portions, do some fucking exercise. It costs about £60 for a pair of decent trainers - go for a run - it's fucking free. If you want to build up a bit, do some press-ups and sit-ups.

It really isn't complicated.

The only thing that people lack is self discipline, and no amount of money will buy that.

True. It's the road to Darwinism.
I used to smoke. I smoked quite heavily for a while. I gave up after realising what an utterly, utterly stupid thing it is to do, which took me nearly 20 years to realise.

Fatness, likewise, is a choice.

Here's some inspiration and encouragement: do you want to be a fat or slim?
Christ. What next - you want people to read books aloud for you?

no
but if i get up at 6.30 and i am in work by 7.30 and i work til 8 at night, i need some encouragement to make me spend the next 90 minutes working out. if i've paid a lot of money for a PT, it does the trick!

i think you have to allow that people see and do things differently. maybe you have iron willpower. good for you. not everyone is like that. so long as they are trying, and not sitting around in a blob of lard, let them get on with it, dude.

Oh I have no people spending their cash on whatever they want - I'm a great believer in parting people from their cash for one's own personal gain.
I'm just pointing out how you can save an awful lot of your cash.

Seeing Micro-jogs age 2yrs 10mth when we got her first two wheel bike
this week. Got stabilisers on so only took her 10 mins to master it (excluding braking, the adults were utilised as buffers.)
The rest of the day was all, "I got a bike." "Is this my bike?" "I can ride my bike." to anyone in earshot, including innocent bystanders on a ride round to great grandma's. There's no greater pleasure than the company of a happy kid, in a non-noncey way of course.
Thank you for asking Windy Pig.

Launching my new website at work.
I built it from the ground up, first solo project yet. Mega satisfying.

I cycle pretty every day. If I stopped eating shit and drinking beer I could probably shift a bunch of weight.

Lowest I ever was was 73kg - 4% ish body fat. Couldn't maintain that as I like pies and beer too much.

Probably getting or starting my new job, I suppose.
My next favourite moment will be on Friday when I get paid. It's been a few years since I had a regular income, so it'll be nice to have that buffer for when the sales of used underwear dry up on eBay.

Alt: don't talk to me about weight loss. I realised the other day that I've put on about three stone since I got married. That's a stone a year. If it carries on like this I'll be the same size as my namesake from The Gossip. I was so depressed by this realisation, I had to go have a sit down and a cake.

pizza express is one of those annoyingly passable restaurants.
When done properly the food is entirely edible for the price, the waiters tend to be pretty good, the decor is generally good. It's a good chain, but that is all that it is.

HI GUYS!!!
Well I recently went to Paris but that was more than a few weeks ago now so my next excursion is back home to Geordieland in September. Haven't seen my hometown for almost a year now. Need to get a visit to the parents and that in.

Im currently in a programme to be debt free by 2014 so my spends are rather limited this year. All worth it in the long run though.

Alt. I did do a few months of eating nothing but salads. Didn't see a difference so went back to eating proper food. I always cook from fresh and walk a lot so that's more than some do!

They never did the follow up though because it turned out that all the people they chose were complete pricks with no hope of ever paying off their mortgage.
