I would travel more.
But lack of funds always seems to be an issue.
Still, I've done ok so far.
I have to get away soon though. I get restless if I stay somewhere for to long. I've been back home from the last adventure for nearly a year and it's all getting a bit boring now!

I've always fancied going off for a couple of years to travel around the world. But I should have done it when I was younger. Now I've too many commitments and responsibilities! So I'll need to wait until I'm retired or have won the lottery.

The latter is unlikely however.

Weekend
Spent two days mountain biking around Bucks/Beds with three of my friends. Saturday was spent at Aston Hill, Sunday was spent riding the Ridgeway and taking in the countryside/riding some challenging trails/playing silly buggers etc.

All good clean fun...

What did everyone else get up to?

Canada is good. It's big enough to be relatively empty, but does have enough people to have nice cities too. Bloody cold in winter though!

Was originally designated a buisness-trip, but none of the companies I applied for want to interview me, so I'm just going to enjoy myself.

I don't mind the cold so much, I'm thinking if I go I'll try and do a ski season at Whistler. I've got family in Vancouver anyway. Plus ski seasons are fun! I did one a few years ago in Italy.

Edit: Hello spakka. I'm not sure if I can make the bash tomorrow now. I have to be up at silly o'clock on Wednesday and I'm pretty much a pussy when it comes to staying out late on school nights.

I was in Whistler once, but it was shut.

It was May though - shoulder season. The ski season was finished and the summer tourist season hadn't yet started. But I wouldn't fancy doing a ski season myself. I used to love wintertime when I was a bit fat, but now I feel the cold too badly. My metabolism must be screwed up!

And I realised that it is three months til holiday, and one year and one month today that I get married.

Holidays
Right now, I have plenty of time to do a serious trip, but not enough money. Once I'm employed again, the situation will reverse itself.

I often spend my in-between job periods travelling. This is the best chance to go because you've saved up from your last job. My most-recent mega-trip involved me spending a month in Poland before heading East and making it as far as China.

@wandrlust: Pity about that. You don't have to stay for the full session - you can just drop in and say hi for a bit.

Mornings all
I was down in Bristol at the weekend. It was really very warm, too much so for my liking. Turns out english people are rubbish at ceilidhing*.

And both my flights were delayed. Again. Some kid started having a fit just as we were about to take off on the way home, so we had to go back to the terminal and re-taxi and everything.

And I stopped by my new flat for next year, and the boiler was making a disconcerting noise.

I fancy seeing Japan too
but it's the complete opposite of Canada. It's small, crowded and very expensive. Canada is huge, for the most part unpopulated, and less expensive to get to and stay in.

I've been to Canada half a dozen times and only seen a tiny fraction of it. Japan would be easier to see in a shorter period because of its size.

Re Japan:
That's one of those places that's on my must-go list of places to visit. Several of my friends have been there, and they all see Japan from their own different perspectives. For me, Japan is more the sort of place I'd take a 2-week holiday than somewhere where I'd go on a big adventure.

it's hit 20°C three times this year. But yesterday was cold here. I put on a sweatshirt to go outside and work on my car.

This weekend, I have been mostly: eating. Lots.

I went to Cheltenham to visit friends, and we had the most amazing meals at various local pubs using local produce. Some of the beer was phenomenal, and I had some of the best perry I've ever tasted.

It was...
an Alfa Romeo GT, 2005 plate, 2.0.

Glorious drive. The ride was a little hard for a GT, but I can forgive it that as it is achingly good looking.

Drove the Brera too, though that was mainly for shits and giggles. Lovely car.

I am now weighing up insurance costs and tax and petrol/diesel costs.

I'm more of a mountain person myself
After a gruelling day of walking along a challenging yet scenic mountain path that takes me through several changes in altitude and vegetation, I'd find a nice mountain hut by the side of a lake at the top of a waterfall, which is in turn fed by another waterfall. I'd go skinny-dipping in the lake, and then return to the hut and have a meal on the terrace with a view of the mountains in the distance whilst breathing in the insanely fresh air and listening to the faint sound of cow-bells.

I am rather a fan of Porsche. Having a mate who works for them helps, it must be said!

And another mate has just bought an RS4, but I'll not be getting a go in it, as he's scared to let anyone drive it in case they crash. Which is a valid point!

Is a long drive in a nice car. Or a long ride on a nice motorbike. Followed by a days surfing or, depending on where you are in the world, a day of snowboarding.

Then, in the evening while the body resets itself, an ice-cold beer and a steak, with a view of either the sea or the mountain you just tamed.

Have done heaps of mountain trekking. Mostly in Austria (which is my favourite place for mountain-holidays), but also in a few other European countries too. But despite this, I'm out of practice and would get tired pretty easily if I were to go now.

Getting all the kit together for going on holiday next Saturday - North York Moors for walking, Theakstons and fishing out of Whitby.

I will NOT be taking the bike this year as I am staying on a 14% gradient and quite frankly I nearly died last year, the first time I've run out of gears and had to stop for a wheeze in a long time. Either that, or I'm getting older and lardier. Hey Ho.

I think that's a grey area of the law. I believe you could be done for breach of the peace, which seems silly, but I think that's how it is.

Depends on whether your neighbours have the heart attack before or after they call the cops!

Over the weekend I have created a giant wicker kitten in which to store the kitten harvest, thanks to Our Glorious Leader's generous grant.

I suspect that with the aid of some scientists we could line the interior with glass rods or amber or some such, and the thousands of fluffy kittens scurrying around inside should generate enough elastictrickery for the nation's power needs. What do you think?

Actually my weekend was rather dull, as I spent it suffering acute beer poisoning from Friday night.

My weekend was fun :) Mr Maladicta and I went to a foam party on Saturday night for my friend's 21st and spent the rest of the time playing Guitar Hero and watching Animaniacs and Viva La Bam while eating junk food. Weekends FTW.

Today, the flat hunting has commenced: I've seen one today (too small; pushy owner), and have to go back to Ashford tomorrow to look at three more.

Your wicker kitten static electricity plant is a good idea, but extracting energy from the charge is quite difficult unless you allow it to break down (a spark). I would suggest it would be better to have a large treadmill with a toy mouse suspended on a piece of string at one end. Then the kittens will spend all day trying to chase it, while never actually reaching it, and the energy from the treadmill could then be used to turn a huge generator.

Mind you, knowing cats, they'd probably get fed up and go to sleep on the treadmill instead.

Surely the kitten would need to be attached to something to generate any power, but being attached would mean it was supported and thus no longer falling...

would not need to be attached to anything, if you strapped magnets to them. Then if they rotated inside a coil of wire you could extract the energy (this would work perfectly if you ignore the fundamental law of conservation of energy)

Use the kittens to charge up one plate of a parallel plate capacitor. Then current can flow in the external circuit!

Alternatively, you could charge the kittens and then connect them to a metal rod which was then dipped into an ionic fluid. You could extract current as the ions flowed across between the cathode and anode.

The ionic fluid could just be salty water, and provided the voltages weren't too high, the kittens would be fine, if a bit annoyed.

But in practice, static voltages tend to be quite high - kilovolts - and this would be a problem. They're only virtual kittens though, so it's not an issue!
