Still - at least it's Wednesday.
If I can just ride out this week spending very little at all, then I should be OK for next month.

I would be radiant if it wasn't for the massive incompetence of estate agents
It's no wonder they're reviled as vermin.
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 9:20, Reply)
oh this^
Just swapped agents as the first ones were laughably bad
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 9:31, Reply)
As they're just marketing droids that's pretty much a given.
Too many are just "take pics, bung on internet, wait, profit" merchants.

We rang our last one on a Monday and eventually had to ring back on the Thursday
to be told "Whats the matter like?"

Err, fuck off
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 9:35, Reply)
Yep
GF is trying to sell her flat, did an open house weekend a couple of months back, the estate agents forgot to advertise it until the day before it happened. There's another one in 2 weeks, I don't have high hopes.
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 9:35, Reply)
Supposed to be moving today (rented flat)***
Got a call last night. They:-
Don't have the keys*
Don't have the alarm code
Don't have an up to date Gas safety certificate
Haven't cleared the garden**
Haven't cleared the shed***
Haven't replaced the security lighting
Haven't done the 'tenant's leaving check'
Haven't had the place professionally cleaned - as promised.

Other than those 'minor hiccups' (their words) I'm all set!

*The previous tenant moved out on the 3rd of May - and took the keys with her - which begs the question of when were they going to clean/leaving check/gas check if they KNEW they hadn't got the keys?
**Full of slatwall
***Full of old aerosol cans and butane cylinders - not a fire hazard at all -much!
*** Povvo - yeah I know.

Recommendations welcome.

(, Wed 28 May 2014, 9:49, Reply)
I dunno - subcontracted or whatever?
Basically I've got a venue and they're tied into Carlsberg for their ale, so if I want anything off their menu it'll cost extra, so it's worth me doing something from it instead.

But I'm starting to think that I'll take the extra hit, as they all look awful. Hobgoblin, Adnams ... ugh. Lumpy, muddy, old man's beer.
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 9:51, Reply)
Hobgoblin can be fucking lovely

Yep
I went to my nephews birthday at a soft play centre on 2 hours sleep and with one bastard of a hangover. About an hour after getting there, my brother directed me to the nearest shop, I nearly cried tears of joy when I saw that they sold Lucozade in 1 litre bottles.
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 10:27, Reply)
I can't stand just going out on the high street when it's half term
let alone a shopping centre, supermarket or, God forbid, somewhere where the little turds are going to be over-excited.

I don't know whether I've mentioned this before or not
but BT are unhelpful, incompetent cunts. I'd take a D-Link or Netgear router over one of their jobs any day of the week.

I've got a TP-Link one.
I'm pretty sure when I bought it, I spent about £70, but you can now get them for £30.

with any payrise, i think it's nice just to blow the difference the first month, as a treat/reward. you can be all sensible after that (or carry on blowing if you like). the one i got when i moved from uxbridge to the city was great, i was able to treat a lot of friends.

I know nothing about photography, but I have just bought myself a nice new DSLR so I can learn.

(, Wed 28 May 2014, 10:35, Reply)
I'm not too shabby at it
had a camera of some sort since I was about 8, learnt on a completely manual 35mm, light meter and all.

What you trying to find out about?
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 10:40, Reply)
I have a good lens that I could use for macro shooting with extension tubes.
Just wondering whether it's worth spending 150 quid on a 1:2 magnification macro lens over using the tubes, considering I'm hardly more than a holiday snapper and light hobbyist.
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 10:41, Reply)
Tricky one
Ideally would see if you can try before buying, the "proper" macro lens is likely to be better, but would like to see how much better before parting with the dosh.
Same applies (or used to) with teleconverters, if you don't have a need for a long lens so often it's a cheap way of getting one, but not quite as good quality.
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 10:48, Reply)
Yeah, that's the general opinion I'm getting.
The tight-fist in me resents spending thirty quid only to end up spending the extra anyway.
(, Wed 28 May 2014, 10:50, Reply)
