(Granted, my school didn't have its own pool, but it was a short coach trip to the Dolphin leisure centre).

Who would deny their child the chance to learn? Or even discourage them from learning.

My nephew has always been very lean and wiry. I can't remember him ever having puppy fat.
When learning to swim he always had difficulty floating and we assume it's because of this.

When I was a young 'un,
I was so scrawny that I had real trouble staying afloat. I used to do pretty well in short-distance races though - I'd do a length of crawl without coming up for air.

Then I'd have to cling on to the edge, gasping, for about five minutes.

I've never been able to swim - because neither of my parents could they never taught me
When I became a dad I got both of my kids enrolled in swimming lessons. Both of them earned their 2km swimming badges when they were 9.

If I'm ever on a boat that goes down, hopefully they'll be able to save their old dad.
