It has commonly been assumed that spicy jang (μ₯; ι¬) varieties were made using black peppers and chopi before the introduction of chili peppers.[citation needed] Shiyi xinjian, a mid-9th century Chinese document, recorded the Korean pepper paste as ζ€ι¬ (lit.β'pepper paste'). The second-oldest documentation of pepper paste is found in the 1433 Korean book Collected Prescriptions of Native Korean Medicines.[6] Pepper paste is again mentioned in a 1445 medical encyclopedia named Compendia of Medical Prescriptions.[7]

some of the hottest chillies taste amazing (smoked ghost chillies are the fucking business), but have to be used judiciously

Everyone's a first timer at some point
Most people at the gym are focused on themselves and doesn't really notice other people. There also seems to be a culture of 'all of us are here to improve' - people who are awkward/unfit/etc are more likely to get respect because they're working at it than derided for not fitting in. And if you don't know what you're doing on a machine you can always look up tutorials on youtube.

Also, gyms change a lot depending on the location
I remember the Fitness First in Covent Garden was always full of escorts and professional dancers (there's a big crossover between the categories) and that could be intimidating. The gyms near big office locations tended to be more full of less-fit normal people trying to stay healthy rather than people who could slum it as Abercrombie & Fitch models.
