Well, we were sitting in our office happily working away when we were victims of, well, a stick-up. Two 'youths', one armed with a crowbar and the other threatening to 'stab us' walked in and stole 2 wallets, 2 bags and my laptop.
This makes me quite angry because I did what I always thought I would never do. I froze. The whole thing lasted about 60 seconds and wasn't very pleasant..
On the upside I did spend half an hour driving around in an unmarked police car with the sirens going looking for said bastards..
So here's some advice. Keep you office doors closed OK? Its not a nice experience to have a crowbar/knife in your face.

Thing is, now that the shock and fear has gone we're all fucking angry. I'd like to see these two fucks again and seriously kick the shite out of them.
But that's probably the 2 pints I had talking.

i froze. and they just took everything. the irony being, i was on my way to a kung fu lesson, and could have happily kicked the shite out of the pair of them (assuming neither had a knife or a gun...)
safest thing to do really, it's not worth getting hurt over things.

But there were two of them and two of us (with another in the loo) and we're all bigger than them.
But the police said we did the right thing.
On that note, I salute the Rozzers in this area - when I was in the car with them looking at suspects they'd already picked up (5 of em) I sorta realised how together the police are..
So be nice to them.. They do try.

I videoed an armed siege on my house a few years ago (probably only an air pistol) and they took away the video without sealing it in an evidence bag which meant it was worthless as evidence...

I live there and my missus got a big rock
thrown at her by local violent kiddywinks
while riding her bike...it hit her in the head
and made her come off her bike.
Took them over an hour to turn up and when
they did they proudly annouced that if it
wasn't for the kids in the area they wouldn't
have anything to do.
Cnuts !

On the Uber upside, I shall now be getting a spanking brand new £2.5k laptop (nice police lady said "Well, add a grand to the price, I wont tell") so I believe that she's now on my Friend For Life list :)

you have my commiserations. Freezing is the safest way to deal with a robbery. I didn't freeze a few years ago when I caught some fucker half in and half out of my sitting room window. I hit him. He hit me back. When I woke up, he was gone, along with most of my technology.

but then it wouldn't do to take it lightly. but then, given that we're unlikely to sort out judicial policy to any reasonable extent on here - "you like custodial sentence, please?", "when come back, bring remand" - we should probably save this for the pub...

The fact that you own a laptop and have a wallet that's worth stealing means you have accomplished something. The person that stole it, even if they don't get caught, will always be a thief. You can replace material wealth, even if it's not insured, because they can't steal the talent and intelligence that allowed you to acquire it; talent and intelligence that they'll never have.
