# Exrtreme survival

Broadband users might like to click here, for larger, full colour joy.
People who don't know who 'Judy' is, should click here.

# balls
it's the nazism that's annoying. People will bitch and moan about a 75k image, when the number of images in a thread makes *far* more difference to the total bandwidth usage of a page.

You know what, I've used B3ta on dialup, before everyone was naziish about the sizes (within reason) and guess what? It was quite slow. And guess what? I wasn't surprised because I was accessing a message board full of bloody pictures and animations...

When people start whingeing because a still pic is 75k they are clearly more worried about the rules than the actual download weight of the page.

Edit: I think it's particlarly relevant here, as smallbrainfield has had to seriously reduce the quality of his pic to make it fit in 50k. The rule is there so that people optimise their pictures properly, *not* so they will all fit exactly within 50k.

# Okay, I agree that the nazis are shite,
but there needs to be a limit, otherwise idiots will break the board with huge images 30000000 px across, emblazoned with the legend 'Horizon'.
(, Fri 27 Oct 2006, 13:23, archived)
# You can make a gif which is 30000000px across in less than 50k
Also the board doesn't break with wide pictures like most boards, it's been well designed to cope with that, which is why I also don't understand why people complain about pics with large dimensions either.

I think 50k as a guideline is fine, but we need to keep reminding people that's it's a guideline :)

# Indeed
b3ta often crashes the browser on my lovely Zaurus because it can't cache all the images in ~60MB of memory. :(

# If you clicked refresh half as often we could double the size of the images!
(, Fri 27 Oct 2006, 13:35, archived)
# That's clearly not what I said
re-read it maybe?

I was making a point that the size of an image is less relevant than the number of images in a thread. And that people like enforcing rules.
(, Fri 27 Oct 2006, 13:29, archived)
# I didn't think you said that
I meant it!

FUCK EVERYONE!

Additionally - I think we should be able to imbed flash on the board.
and when you submit an swf you get a thing to confirm it has a start button and is optimised.

but then again - links board....

but board Nazis enjoy being board Nazis. It is as simple as that.
