Yesterday it emerged that I have been causing offence and making miserable the lives of some people on b3ta by drawing images that look a little (or identical to) those of other b3ta members. Namely The Neville. In addition, I admit to stealing the idea of surreal humour from The Neville and placing it in my own head!
So here is an apology to 'monstrinho do biscoito', and I have taken his criticisms on board and produced my own brand new style which I now present to you all.
Apologies,
Wheelybird.

Usually I just trace something The Neville's already drawn. ;)

I deliberately avoided 'good', as someone else has done it already. :)

I think you'll find I have dibs on distinctly average with a twist of "I'm wooing this out of pitty for some strange sense of obligation." If it causes that feeling in your chest where you know you don't understand it and you're not sure if it's supposed to be funny - IT'S MINE!

This is the most important thing to say: Please carry on!
(NOT important things to say include
"this looks a bit like that"
"it is obvious to ME, Assessor of Originality, that you couldn't have imagined stick figures yourself, so you clearly aped/traced/robbed someone else's idea as a dirty mechanical shortcut"
"too brown"
"eat more fucksocks"
etc.)

I think you're quite right, that originality is wonderful. A work that has something new can jolt yer mind sideways. But that's what originality means: something (worthwhile) that is new. It doesn't mean that everything in the work must be new! I think wheelybird's works have lots of new stuff in them. (And if you don't think the new parts are worthwhile, that's fair enough! I'm sure we all have a 20% of b3ta that we love, and a 20% that we don't care for at all.)
Similarity ≠ lack-of-Originality. An artist in Brazil can originally create a work that has surprising similarities to one created by an artist in Taipei. This happens all the time. If another awesome cartoonist arrived on b3ta, would we say "Get lost, we've got JJ already"?
Furthermore: originality is not the bee-all and end-all. Or rather, the amount of originality in a good post can be quite small and incremental: something unoriginal but well executed can still be very cool. (And for what it's worth, I think wheelybird's posts are well executed).
Copying and 'passing-off' is a different matter entirely. It would be bad if a blatant rip-off, with no originality and no skillful execution (because all the polish is simply copied), was posted as "my original work". (But surely surely surely you don't think that's how wheelybird's art or ideas came about?)
So, this is just my opinion, but: I agree there are similarities among posts by wheelybird, The Neville, etc. But I still think each has plenty of originality. And I can't see that any have been simply copied from any other. As with all opinions, I may be wrong :-)
EDIT: and Happy Birthday! (sorry, I only just noticed, up there ^), and I love your posts too.
