Threadjack:
Morning everyone.
I'd post this on /talk, but I fear them. The time of year has come around where Mockingbird must make his summertime drivealong compilation CD, to be used with the windows down doing slow speeds along sunny country lanes with a car full of friends on the way to beaches and parties and the like. I would very much appreciate your suggestions for tracks that would suit it.
List so far:
In the Summertime – Shaggy
Steal my sunshine – Len
Summertime - Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
Feeling Good - Muse
Kate - Ben Folds Five
Sloop John B - Beach boys
Monday, Monday - Mamas and the Papas
Teenage Kicks - Undertones
Freebird - Lynryd Skynryd
Today was a good day - Ice Cube
Bombtrack - RATM
Cocaine - Eric Clapton
Where did you sleep last night - Leadbelly
Cecelia - Simon and Garfunkel
Voodoo Chile - Hendrix
Dreaming of you - the Coral
Buzz Fledderjohn - Tom Waits
Summer in the City - Regina Spektor
Sort Skirt, Long Jacket - Cake
AM Radio - Everclear
Immigrant song - Led Zeppelin

Although Heartwork has the most summery feel to it, if you will
It is a bit more uptempo than Heartwork. Failing Carcass go with The Berzerker.
Edit: Or some SunnO))) because it has the word Sun in the name therefore it must be summery.

when the ipod shuffles onto a decent hip hop track and i turn it up a bit, I always feel like a bit of a nob driving around with it booming out the car windows.
actually, i'd reccommend some iron maiden for summer driving, hmmm flight of icarus i'd say
also: Blind man, Blind man by Herbie Hancock. poifect

A few weeks later they were on TV (cheeky girls, that is) and my folks went "we saw them in a service station. They had on tiny boob tubes, hot pants and enormour raincoats, and were choosing sandwiches and crossword books in the shop."

Pick your favorite Roy Ayers song and place that prominently on the CD, either at teh start to set the mood or possibly as a central linchpin to the whole proceedings. I would personally go for Everybody Loves the Sunshine from Everybody Loves the Sunshine, but there are a host of great songs to pick from.
Next - Gil Scott Herron is a very good idea, well done Gregor Lenko. I would go for Lady Day and John Coltrane or We Almost Lost Detroit, but those are personal preferences (in fact I'd probably put Winter in America on CD and take that with you in the car to provide an alternative soundtrack).
Find Sprain your tape deck by Edan, listen to it, pick your favorite. I like lets be friends.
This next one is important and hard to get but try and try and try and you will be happy - if you can't find it Gaz me and I'll see what I can do for you. The band is called East of Underground and they have a record called East of Underground. This is an awesome record. Track 2 is a cover of Smiling Faces, if you can get this it will lift your soul to new heights of delight.
Bring it down a few with Alien Ant Farm Smooth Criminal, Gwen Stefanni ... whatever that Pherell song where she sings about her shit being bananas is, or Scooby Snacks by the FLC.
The Isley Brothers, Fight the Power OR Who's that Lady? not both. I'd go for Who's that Lady, but that's because I've got it in my car at the moment and I love it.
This one's very important -- The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin.
Find something by Garry Higgins, see if you like it add it if you do.
(King Tubby is the) Dub Organiser by Lee 'Scratch' Perry.
Young Marble Giants get anything by them
Anything from Money Mark's Push the Button LP
Lady Don Tek No by Latyrx
Bow Down by Westside Connect Gang
Still Alive, the song from the end of the game Portal...
Dave Dee Dozy Beeky Mitch and Titch - Hold Tight...
Justice - We Are Your Friends is very good, but you might look like a dick pumping it hard on your car stereo with the windows open... doesn't stop me like.

...by the Fun Lovin' Criminals, but I favour "King of New York" personally.
Oh and "National Express", Divine Comedy.
Depending on your mood you might also include "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen, for a good old singalong drivey type thing (I'm always a passenger, so I always sing!) :D
