Well, this is to mark one year (and a bit) since the Epic Manc Bash, where BGB famously was walked back to her hotel, where she managed to repaint the bathroom a stunning shade of red (wine).
With any luck, this will also be the weekend where we are joined by Poppet, so fuck it, it's time for a bash!
Also, the option is yours, Salisbury or Northern Quarter?
Crown And Anchor (For Now) [map]
Manchester Bash
Going: Agnostic Antichrist, Poppet, Kitty v1.0, SteveFrench, DarkSon, Bear Pookie The Frankly Challenged., rosalicious, plentyofants, t0ria, Mr.Ons, lord turkey boy, TownsendsPublisher, Monty Propps, masakatsu, Boss Keloid, Kip, Maximinimus, Span Wang, baldmonkey, dozers, do fuck off, BelladonnaAnodyne, Aberracion (22 people).
More pubs to choose, good beer and a bit of dancing at TV21 or the No-ho.
If people is happy with moving, I can prepare an Ale trail around the city and we can show Poppet the best pubs in Manchester

I'd just have to force myself to alternate my drinks between alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
otherwise I'll be unconscious by the second pub!
Edit: I shouldn't say "unconscious" should I? I'll say drunk then. Drunk is better.

We usually start around 1pm, and go 1pub/h, but yes, we can go slower, don't worry.

I wanted to go home the first weekend of December. I suppose I could put it back for a couple of days and fly after the bash... Ok, Ok. I'll put it as a yes, and prepare the trail if enough people is interested, but I can't promise I'll be there.

so sign me up. I have a spare bedroom if one is needed.

Not sure if the German Market will have started by then.

what with that being my idea on the last epic bash!

maybe. At least this one isn't on a Friday!
It's reliant on me not having any gigs that weekend and finding crash space and all that jazz.
But, potentially yes. I'd like to see all your smiling little faces again.

as long as you aren't all rock and roll and throw my TV out of the window or drive my car into a swimming pool or something.

Have fun!

Is the pub near the Roadhouse?
( , Tue 5 Oct 2010, 16:59, Reply)
Got a load on what with decorating house and imminent babby. Would love to make it down for a couple but can't promise - tricky argument persuading Mrs H that going on the lash with b3ta takes precedence over any number of domestic chores. Bollocks to adulthood I say :/
Wouldn't say not to a cheeky gluhwein on a school night though if anyone's up for it?
( , Tue 19 Oct 2010, 16:32, Reply)
I can say that with confidence having witnessed your self control and will-power at the last one!

The Crown and Anchor has been redecorated - hideously! It's all gone mood lighting and tacky wallpaper. To say nothing of the ghastly plaster friezes under the bar. Crappy camera pics for evidence.
And let's have a close-up on that wallpaper shall we?
Might want to think of alternative venues - can't see this being b3ta's scene at all...
Out of interest, have any of you tried the Waldorf across the way? Not a bad boozer as an alternative... www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/26334/

am i wrong?
i thought at some point, when we're doing an outing near oxford rd (but not the salisbury) rather than a northern quarter one, we could start in font. £2/£3 cocktails and decent atmosphere. you do have to get in early, though. queues get silly later
but i think your waldorf suggestion's better for this one, as it's nearby. could even make a sortie across to the c&a and check out the tasteful wallpaper

Crown and Anchor seems to have gone downhill, but we want to keep within a short distance of the station, so those who don't know Manchester can arrive easier.
Who wants to go where? Bear in mind we're not going to be staying in the meeting place all night!
( , Tue 23 Nov 2010, 9:40, Reply)
People might not check here before they come. Stay with 'the C&A' and stick there an hour or two to pick up the stragglers. Whaddya think?
Afterwards, dunno. May be best to stay in the same part of town due to practicality/laziness/there being lots there anyway. Did you want to try Mr Headwound's Waldorf suggestion as the second place?
( , Tue 23 Nov 2010, 12:31, Reply)
But can I throw in a curve ball and suggest The Castle Hotel on Oldham road? Went in there after a gig on Sunday and it fulfills most of our requirements, including real beer and a place to sit down for the old fellas
( , Tue 23 Nov 2010, 17:38, Reply)
Real beer and somewhere to sit :) Is there a log fire to keep me arthritic hips warm too or should I bring a shawl? Does the jukebox take shillings or that new-fangled metric money?

"Having been a bastion of Mancunian social life for innumerable years, The Castle Hotel on Oldham Street is at last
re-opening its doors to welcome punters back in with open arms! The Grade 2 listed building, which is over 200 years
old, is as much a favourite with traditional ale drinkers and Northern Quarter residents as it is with young students
and musicians frequenting the area.
With new owners at the helm, Jonny Booth and Rupert Hill, the pub promises to give as much excitement and
versatility as trendy bars without compromising its heritage, to still stand strong in line with the chain of popular
historical drinking holes throughout the City Centre.
The pubâs tiled frontage, decorative bar and Victorian fixtures and fittings have even caught the eye of historical experts
at the nationwide trust that is English Heritage. The organisation is now involved in with the brewery and new
owners to fully restore the âback roomâ, most prominently known for impromptu gigs from the likes of Elbow, Stephen
Fretwell and innumerable local favourites. Once the works are complete, the space will again be available for more
brilliant music programming, dining, craft and vinyl sales and more.
As well as the traditional aspects of the pub, Jonny and Rupert have many forward thinking ideas to bring the place
and the people back together. Along with some delicious options for breakfast and lunchtime food, from locally made
pies to home-made cookies, theyâve got some great things planned for what is fast becoming a launch year!
Keep your eyes peeled for book clubs in the snug, competitions for local bands to get on the jukebox, good old pub
quizzes and eventually an online blog for people to keep up with renovations, with pictures of building work and
details of the re-opening schedule."
It's not massive though which might be a problem.

It cost us £150 yesterday for a new central heating pump, which has cunted the beer fund in the fuck. I haven't told Burt yet - he'll be as gutted as I am, if not more :-(
