Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks
NSFW
Matt Berry and Peter Capaldi read from the exchange between the Ottoman sultan and the Zaporozhian Cossaks of Ukraine.
"In 1675, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire instructed his army to attack a fortress belonging to the Zaporozhian Cossacks. They were quickly and heavily defeated. Rather than surrender, the Sultan then wrote to the Cossacks and demanded that they submit to him. "
Mildly NSFW because of hisotrical swears.

What's the difference between a license and a privilege to drive? Why is there a difference?

His driving privileges were reinstated, but not his license. But he's up in court for driving without a license. Therefore he's not allowed to drive without a license. So what is the difference, and why is there a difference?

no i didn't but it might be like in the uk
if you get (i think) 6 points in your first 2 years of having a license you have your license revoked and have to retake your test, but it's not a ban

At a guess, the law within states goes along the likes of you have the privilege to drive on public roads providing you are licensed by the appropriate authority.
No license then you cannot exercise that privilege on public roads.

So if you can reinstate the privilege without reinstating the license then that clearly shows there's a separation between the two. What's the point of that? One is not functional without the other, so what possible reason could there be for removing or reinstating the privilege without removing or reinstating the license at the same time?
( , Thu 6 Jun 2024, 11:42, Reply)
Maybe it means he's not banned from driving.
However he didn't have a licence.

In practice if you don't have the privilege you can't re-obtain the license.
So the state can address violations of the law to different degrees* e.g. suspending your license (temporary until conditions are met e.g. passage of time), revoking your license (permanent until conditions are met that merit you being permitted to re-apply), revoking your privilege (you no longer have the legal basis for a license).**
*Legal privileges historically were private laws (privilegium) that granted an individual or institution certain privileges that they otherwise did not have
**In the UK if you don't want to bother with all this then be King as its part of Royal Prerogative

D-Day immersive sound collage
I made this!
As it's the 80th anniversary today, here's something I made a little while back, an 82-minute sound collage made from over 60 hours of original audio to allow you to hear D-Day as it was experienced at the time by the soldiers themselves, radio journalists, politicians and even members of the public.
It's not very funny, sorry. I'll find something funny to post later.
