Good morning to all
Anyone had any good news? Made any exciting discoveries you'd like to tell us about?

Alt: Weekend plans

Alt alt: Youtube link your favourite song of all time.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:35, 203 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
well not good as such, but I finally found out where the parcel I sent from germany is.
The stupid twunts at DHL sent it by sea instead of by air - so it won't arrive until around April. :(

Alt: write out scholarship application essays, and watch supernatural.

I like this equally (if not more so than) as the original by Crowded House.

I love Kasey doing Better be Home Soonon that album.

(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:43, Reply)
it's the only Kasey song I can vaguely stand.
I shamefully do own an album of hers, but I never listened to it again after the first time I heard it.
Although she is HUGE in country scenes here, so maybe she's just not for me!
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:45, Reply)
I love country and I like her crying voice.
I can see how it grates though.
I love her family's band doing 'Sometimes She Forgets'.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:48, Reply)
I don't mind some country.
Noel and I listened to bluegrass on our roadtrip. was a bit of an eye-opener!
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 8:03, Reply)
Poppet, you made me cry
My ex and his brother performed that song at their dad's funeral.

I was in a good mood and now I'm all weepy.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:50, Reply)
oh damn. I'm sorry!
for me it's a happy song and I just thought I'd share it since you said to share our favourite songs...
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 8:02, Reply)
Heh, s'OK.
It's not like you'd know, is it? Anyway, it is nice to hear, in a way.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 8:04, Reply)
Nope
Unless you count the surprisingly generous severance package I could take if I wanted to leave.

alt: gym, then go round mates, get takeout, play games, have a laugh.
altalt: right this second it's www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yC6xftLzrY but it can change without notice.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:46, Reply)
I finally know what I'm doing next weekend, but where I'm going is a surprise
This weekend I'm a busy bee, going to friends to check progress on her new/old house, then eat curry with some old friends, meeting friend's new boyfriend, taking Nana on a march, having Christmas dinner with my pub workmates, and going round to my folks' house for a Still Game marathon.

I'lll need a proper Roota weekend to recover from this activity. Not enough lounging.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:47, Reply)
That does sound pretty bloody epic.
I don't think I could be that selfless.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:51, Reply)
I'm not normally.
I normally ration the time I share with other people. I need alone time at weekends. I get some through the week as well, but you're thinking about work and stuff then aren't you.
Even though they're all mostly things I wouldn't mind doing, it's not in a small enough dose this weekend!
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:54, Reply)
You truly are brave
I feel aggrieved if one single second of my free time is not spent in my PJs doing exactly what I want.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 7:58, Reply)
'Zackly.
Last weekend was a good balance of seeing people, sleeping in, bf time and lounging about in jarmers playing with Lego until 2.30pm.
I also like weekends where I don't see a soul from Friday night until Sunday afternoon.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 8:01, Reply)
I genuinely get excited when I finish work on a Sunday

But I just put some jeans on over my PJ bottoms and some shoes on. I wear a hoodie to bed, so I can get away with it. God, I'm such a skank.

Well, Bella, I've had no real good news, nothing that springs to mind, but I'm in a posative mood, which is always good.
I'm looking forward to getting into work today where I can work on some Facebook stuff.

uk.pedigree.com/dentastix-denture-your-dog?mId=38813661.2 is awesomeness.

This weekend if the weather is alright I'll be going to this: www.meetup.com/londonpugs/

I can't say me fave song, it all depends on my mood, I quite like that "True Colours" one though, by cindy lawpa, or maybe Kiss the Rain, or that "I'm a bitch" one, or that Des'Re one "Gotta be". I haven't heard any Gabrielle in ages, I like her too. But somtimes I'm in the mood for some heavy metal so I like Offspring too.

Well mine is
My blog has been linked on a very good website. I didn't know how this happened, but found out it's because one of the people who runs it (who writes for the Guardian!) read it and decided he wanted to put it up. He is also interested in cross-posting stuff I've written in future. Also, the band I stole the name of the blog from sent me a message to say they like it. This has made me stupidly happy.

EDIT: It was on here liberalconspiracy.org/ . You can't see it now though, which is why I'm linking. Oh yeah, and a journo from Standpoint saw something I was getting righteously annoyed about on Twitter the other day, read the blog and asked to interview me for an article she's writing. I think she might just want to get in my knickers though.

Alt: The Disappointed might be coming over this morning, then it's work today and tomorrow, but on Sunday I am going to my godson's christening. This means an opportunity to get shitfaced with my favourite relative, my cousin Thom (godson's dad). Yay.

Alt alt: This is the first song I ever knew all the words to, aged 4: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hV2lCnG5VA&feature=fvst

Also, you just NEED this song in your life: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljPFZrRD3J8

I am BOSS at tips.
Just last weekend I got an iron burn off a skirt, cured someone's cystitis, invented a face gel and made my dad get me a ticket to see Gilbert O'Sullivan.

I gotta run off to work now, but gaz me up our email/username/tempoary password, and I'll set the account up =D
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 8:14, Reply)
Not sure anyone on b3ta would read my stuff
It's just politics/media/feminism shite.

I think it's for the strictly interested. Although there is enough of them to keep me VERY HAPPY.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 8:07, Reply)
It's by b3tans, but it's for everyone, help them break out onto the blogging scene, there are a few established (at least, by b3ta terms) signed up.
I'll be really interested if there is a clash in opinion, and letting people just roll with it and see how that goes. The only types of things I don't really want to see on there is "[b3tan] is this/that/other", because it would alienate any readers who aren't from b3ta. I also don't wanna see any NSFW stuff or iligel stuff on there eaither though (eg, "blah blah's a peado").

Hit me up a gaz if you're interested, it would be good to get someone politically aware on board =)

Hello there.
It's a fucking brilliant record, and mind-bendingly rare. It took me 20 years (I did do one or two other things during that time, though) to find a copy and mine's a bootleg.

My parlous finances are really getting me down. Basically my life’s a piece of shit and it’s only by extravagance and high living that I am able to momentarily distract myself from this fact. I’m broke so it’s ‘slap in the face by reality’ time again. It’s probably good for me but it fucking well doesn’t feel like it. I was going to do some mushrooms tomorrow night but in my current state a bum trip is almost a foregone conclusion.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P3lhrwio-M

and I'll get bored of it soon but I've been playing this little pop morsel a ridiculous amount:

And it's a good lampooning of religion which I'm all for. But christ, when people get hold of things and put them on pedestals and make them some kind of holy grail does my head in, especially when it's just an average movie.

Johnny Cash's cover of that gives me mixed feelings; on the one hand it's a very decent tune, on the other it angers me that more people are aware of it than the infintely superior original.

Oh, god, I know
They asked me about 5 or 6 questions and I talked for nearly ten minutes to do that bit - what I enjoyed about it, what I'm going to do with the money - so for them to pick that 6 second soundbite was gutting.

Thank you though Al, that's very decent of you.

Jo CUNTING Wiley once introduced the song as NIN's cover of Johnny Cash's classic 'Hurt'....
RAGE!

Someone once (I think they were on Radio 1) asked The Zutons why they'd decided to cover the Amy Winehouse track 'Valerie'
Nearly as dumb as the woman who asked The Corrs how they met. FFS.

Not as funny as Radio 5(?)
asking RATM not to swear
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 9:54, Reply)
I think that was someone else
Then again, I think RATM should grow up, and realise swearing for the point of it stopped being funny years ago.

Also, their music is 90% shit.

Roughly 30% shit.

The rest isn't too bad, thanks for asking.

Indeed. They are basically the musical version of Kevin the teenager.
fuck YOU I won't tidy my bedroom.

Sara Cox once joked about asking the White Stripes how they met, when they were still pretending to be brother and sister for some bizarre reason
I think a better question to ask them would be "WHY did you meet?" or "can I have the time I wasted watching your astonishingly dull set at Glastonbury in 2005 back please?"
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 9:59, Reply)
They've split for good now

(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 10:01, Reply)
I'll never forgive them for having the temerity to turn up on the Pyramid stage and be so fucking boring
You can get away with not saying a damn word if you're the best band in the world. Not if you're the White fucking Stripes
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 10:06, Reply)
You're kidding
What an absolute cuntrag
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 9:53, Reply)
why be angry?
it still means more people are aware of the song. If they didn't know the Cash version, they wouldn't know it at all. And the Cash version is different, it does add something, although I do much prefer the NIN version.

Morning everyone
I've resolved not to bang on about my good news any more and my weekend plans consist of Xbox, DJing and hopefully beer. Fascinating, eh.

Favourite song is a toss-up (hehehe) between this;

and this;

but as Monty's in a bad mood, I'll link to this to try and cheer him up;

Cheers babe, appreciate it. I've taken a lot of stick for that answer!

I'm good thank you, went to a pub quiz last night. Was disgusted to walk away with winnings of two fucking quid. Don't they know who I am?

How's you?
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 9:55, Reply)
Aye, I'm grand, see above
In the past half an hour I've just got another influential person telling people to read my stuff too. *dances*

I thought you did very well. I was impressed. You didn't mention dancing once.
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 10:10, Reply)
He knew better than to mention that.
Old creaky-face would have dined out on that for the whole show.

With hindsight I should have known the W.H. Auden question
Does that help?
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 10:12, Reply)
Unless the question is "Who wrote stop the clocks?" I wouldn't know.

(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 10:31, Reply)
It wasn't
But my wild guess of Ted Hughes was unnecessarily wild, had I been less nervous and thought about it more, the educated guess would have been the right one.

A great song off a great album.
Even better is 'Fight Fire' by the band they were before they changed their name to Creedence - the brilliantly monickered 'Golliwogs'. They performed in blackface too I think, the wizards.

I'm a bit late on this one
But apparently I am the first person in my gang to have figured this one out.

Big bulbous wine glasses up to half full of wine (depending on the glass) float. Which makes the bath and glass of wine combination even better.

Works with red, I can't imagine it would be so nice with white. Not that white is actually wine.
