Probably just metal.
They are definitely not hardcore.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 19:41, Reply)
I'd have them as either metal, or the metal end of industrial.
have we found another of those rare things we agree on?
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 19:44, Reply)
Not really industrial though, are they?
There's more to industrial than a few token samples here and there.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 19:44, Reply)
*stands corrected*

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 19:54, Reply)
I used to be massively into Industrial from about 15-16.
Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Prick, Stabbing Westward, early Marilyn Manson, Lard, Skinny Puppy, that sort of thing. I got Marilyn Manson's Portrait of an American Family when it came out. I was subsequently disgusted when he cleaned up his act and went commercial.

One of my favourite industrial tunes is this www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVpw1SwJRBI

And yes, that is the Sharon Tate house. Broken and Downward Spiral were recorded there.

This is one of those odd ones.

Oh fuck yeah, I remember that.
Jesus this is making me feel old. Definitely Maybe was released twenty years ago, that's massively depressing. My physiotherapist said the creaking and cracking in my skull from my neck strain was "just part of the ageing process" and I almost caved his face in with his model kneecap.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 19:46, Reply)
Definitely Maybe came out in 1995.
That's another three and a bit years to go until its 20th.

I don't despise Levellers.
I just find them hilarious. Did they not have some members leave because they didn't like touring? They're meant to be travellers, and they hated touring. Maybe that explains Dale Farm.

As a matter of fact I am very very right in the head.
Let us consider the evidence:

-The Fiona Bruce fixation.
-The love of hip hop
-My matinee idol good looks
-My suave mastery of accessorising
-My commitment to heartwarming comedy
-My Fiona Bruce fixation
-My lack of an obtrusive ego

You may carry this on in your own time.

That is because Jay Z is wack and Kanye is well past his creative peak.
It's like listening to The Fragile, and deeming Nine Inch Nails to be shit. Hip hop is like any other genre- there is reams and reams of terrible, charty stuff and good underground shit.

The born again Christians who like spraying their audience with fizzy pop.

Yeah, you win. The ICP are indeed far, far better than half the shirt I like. They make Q-Tip, Mos Def, Ice Cube, Lateef The Truth Speaker, Chuck D, Rakim, MCA, Divine Styler, Kool G Rap, KRS One and Black Thought wish that they too could be overweight, sub literate, dyslexic, clown impersonating ignorant cunts with juvenile tastes in music.

That's not the point. I understand that there is a scientific basis to it and I don't invoke a God to explain it.
If the ICP really wanted to know how magnets work they could find out in seconds.

But the thick fuckwits would rather ponce about in clown makeup and go to church.

Also, their music is worse than Kid Rock for fuck's sake. Worse even than Korn.

Nothing fascist about that statement.
Party politics and universal suffrage means that we get shit, pandering laws. There are plenty of things that should be done and have no real argument against them (like an opt-out system for organ donation, legalisation and controlled supply of cannabis, legalised brothels etc) which will never get introduced here due to the idiots being allowed to vote.

make the fuckers pass an intelligence test

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:38, Reply)
So... what are you advocating as an alternative?
A poll tax to reduce suffrage? An IQ test?
A benevolent dictatorship?

I'll stop hurling abuse then, I thought I had been ignored and my little black heart nearly broke.

On the other hand, I'd certainly like to see the right to vote removed from those who vote for a party
because their family always did, or because they somehow are unquestioningly perceived to represent a voters social background.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:44, Reply)
you mean like how you vote Tory coz your parents did?

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:50, Reply)
Sorry, what?
I have never told you or anyone on this site who I or anyone else I know has voted for?
I've kept that between me and the ballot box, thanks.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:50, Reply)
Sorry.
I bet you a fiver it's tory though, tories never like to admit it.

3 million shy people in 1992, wasn't it?

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:56, Reply)
Yes.
Which is why the exit polls showed a Labour victory in 1992. Nobody admitted to voting for John Major. And Tories don't tend to admit it, C to the Quizzle is right on this one.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:59, Reply)
which is odd, really
Shit my vote at the last general is far more embarrising but I'll freely talk about it.

Guessing by the name...
Greens or TUSC.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:01, Reply)
Wash you mouth out, greeens indeed, fucking hippies.
I voted Lib Dem for my sins, and thus must take responsibility for the aweful state we are now in.

Half right though, I did vote socialist in the council elections for all the good it did, the 3 councillors they had were kicked out and replaced by labour.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:04, Reply)
So, you won't mind telling who you voted for then?

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:01, Reply)
I reckon he's that rarest of things: A Scotch Torry
and, as such will not answer.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:05, Reply)
He's Scottish?
I wonder If he he voted in both the General and National elections?
I bet he voted SNP, not going to lie, if I was Scottish I certainly would.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:07, Reply)
Well, seems we both guess wrong.
And yes, he is, very.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:08, Reply)
I am indeed Scottish, but I live in York.
And I would vote for the SNP as I support their social agenda. Not sure about independence though, but Alex Salmond is taking prudent steps that are necessary, like renegotiating the Crown Estate so that North Sea oilfields aren't automatically the property of the monarch, but belong to the country.

Alright?
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:09, Reply)
As far as I can gather most SNP voters are of the Ex- Scottish Unionist/Tory type.
With generally stronger support from the Orange community.
The fact their safest seats are Perthshire and Angus says it all tbh.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:13, Reply)
Ex Unionist? SNP?
Why the devil would a Unionist vote for the Independence party?

Fascinating how the SNP prove you can have a progressive, left leaning Nationalist party. England needs one too.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:14, Reply)
In terms of bread and butter policy the SNP are close to the Wet, One Nationist Toryism popular in Scotland
that existed before Thatcher.
Also, demographics of the voter base as shown in Opinion polls and vote spread.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:16, Reply)
Anyone defining themselves as a Unionist would not vote for a party dedicated to secession.
Amirite?
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:19, Reply)
Yes.
but the kids of the generation who voted 51% SUP would be more open minded, while still wanting to vote for the same basic policy.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:20, Reply)
Left leaning centrism is attractive as a platform.
I think it's as simple as that.

Alright freefair?
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:22, Reply)
Well whatever the SNP could be described as, Its certainly working.

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:23, Reply)
I think the biggest factor in their favour is that they are not Labour, Tory or Lib Dem.
All the three main parties are historically unpopular. The SNP were pretty much a protest vote.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:26, Reply)
As you said, if only we had something similar.

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:30, Reply)
At the last General Election, I voted for the Labour candidate.
And he retained his seat.

Alright?
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:06, Reply)
Benevolent dictatorship.
Or at least some sort of test to see that people understand the system they're using.

I used to love it when dickheads would bang on about Gordon Brown being an 'unelected Prime Minister'.

Unelected by everyone outside his constituency, as was Tony Blair, David Cameron, Thatcher...do people not know that you vote for your local MP? Do they turn up at the polling stations, see that the party leaders aren't listed and say to the returning officer "excuse me, I, I think there must be some mistake with the mechanism of democracy on offer here, I wanted to vote for David Cameron, but his name isn't on the ballot paper?".

Do they fuck, the thick shits. If you haven't learned to drive a car you shouldn't get behind the wheel. If you don't understand the concept of party based representative democracy then you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

And I do not believe at all in referendums.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:45, Reply)
With this I agree.
Though I still am inclined to agree with Universal suffrage, I wish people wouldn't be so ignorant of the Parliamentary system.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:48, Reply)
A simple test, no harder than a driving theory test should be sufficient.

I have no clue
a trend that has continued to this day. I neither know, nor care, what is in the charts.

I know one thing though. I really really loathe Def Leppard. As much as U2, if not perhaps a little bit more.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:39, Reply)
Vippers old boy.
It pains me to say this, but I have no shame.

U2's work in the mid-90s was actually alright. Between Achtung Baby and Zooropa there are easily 8 great songs.

Apart from that, you are right about U2.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:40, Reply)
ANd you dare to dis ICP?

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:42, Reply)
Yes.
U2 are good at what they do. ICP are shit at what they do.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:46, Reply)
I think IPD are very good
at being fat clowns who do comdy rap, U2 are very good at being pretnetions irish wankers. whiler I agree on the 8 good songs, I hate ICP less as people, they are funny.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:51, Reply)
Comedy rap.
I rest my case.

(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:53, Reply)
Comedy rap is for Colin Hunt twats wearing comedy wasistcoats to match their Simpsons ties.
There is nothing wrong with humour and warmth in music. But there is nothing at all right about ICP.

I didn't mind Pendulum until I saw them
fucking dreadful.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:00, Reply)
Pendulum are fucking drivel.
They started off well and then went commercial for easy bucks. They've made a fortune out of selling piss poor nu metal to kids. Verily, they are the emo Chase & Status.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:05, Reply)
Yes dear, whatever gets you through the night.
I know nothing about pendulum.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 22:02, Reply)
I can admit that they have done a few alright songs
aside from them being dicks (the members being twats doesn't stop me liking a band, I like Metallica) it's mainly their recent stuff that makes me loathe them. Vertigo and Elevation are two of the worst songs ever written.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:42, Reply)
Those two songs are indeed shite.
But Lemon, Stay, One, Zoo Station are all ace.

And they are tremendous dicks.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:46, Reply)
I only know One of those you name
and I don't care for it much.

There's a song that talks about New Year's Day? That one is ok.

Def Leppard on the other hand have absolutely nothing going for them. Fucking terrible.

Do you mean the song New Year's Day?
This is Lemon, from when U2 were ironic, arch, arty and clever: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5MBHO2oEfM

that'll be the one
I'm listening to a new purchase at the moment and don't want to ruin it by listening to U2 in the middle.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:54, Reply)
Fair enough.
Did you find any more RJD2?
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:55, Reply)
listened to a bit
it's not bad. Mentioned it to my mates who I was sure had some and they'd never even heard the name. Strange.
(, Wed 2 Nov 2011, 21:58, Reply)
He did one good album.
Def Jux were very much the pack leader at that point- backpack hip hop had given way to crews like Cannibal Ox and The Perceptionists. Kind of like an American Mo Wax but with vocal acts rather than concentrating on instrumentals.
