What do you find cheerful?
Alt, good telly? Hardly ever watch mine, anything good on? Game of Thrones, good or bent?

Try The Newsroom.
Written by the same guy that did The West Wing. It's running its second season at the moment, so the first should be available on Netflix or Lovefilm by now.

And gotten away with it. Well done that Man. I'm also cheerful about the choice for the new Doctor Who, the fact that both my bikes are running well and what looks to be a relaxing week, if I can just get thropugh the next 24 hours.
Alt: not recently, watch Mercury Rising last night, Bruce Willis was sound as ever but the whole 'OMG autistic kits aren't actually thick' motif was very 1998. Thrones, I enjoyed the first 2 series but got massively bored by the third and will not be watching any more.

Yes - we've got the final part of the first one to watch tonight.
I hope it isn't in the same school as Lost - we only managed one episode of that, and then I found out it went to several series and that they were just making it up as they went along, so we binned it.
But the first series of The Returned has been great. Not enough lesbian action, mind, but that's the politically-correct handwringers at the BBC for you. Or whoever shows it.

Mobile technology is the problem.
It ruins plots - makes it virtually impossible to isolate someone, which is one of the singular most useful devices.
Hence the forced isolation of reality TV, or period dramae set before such was available/remakes.
Also, kids/teenagers are a huge market, and won't watch old stuff. Hence remakes.
QV - people are really stupid and get from the media what they deserve.

I disagree. I was on a beach the other weekend and went into the sea for a swim.
It was so fucking cold that the Colonel made a tactical withdrawal to a muster point somewhere around my liver. I had a mangina for hours. So long, in fact, that I was concerned I'd never see him again. I genuinely thought my only career option would be singing with a feather boa around my neck in a specialist Soho nightclub.
I didn't enjoy that at all.

there's a case to be made that this is even more shit than sci fi as it's basically all regurgitated Tolkien, which wasn't that good in the first place.

Sci fi = Robot + aliens + spceships + speculation about how all kinds of stuff in the future
Fantasy = endless re writes of Lord of The Rings which are generally worse than the original which was really poor in the first place.
Not saying you have to like sci fi, just that it has more range because it's usually set in the future where as fantasy is basically medieval england with dragons.
