Which are the ones you keep coming back to like an old pair of comfy slippers?
Mine in the reply.

Depeche Mode: Songs of Faith and Devotion. A lot of people would pick 'Violator', but I've always liked the bombastic nature of this album. Plus, 'I Feel You' is a killer opening track.
Pop Will Eat Itself: This is the Day, This is the Hour, This is... This. Not a duff track in my opinion. Classic PWEI, and brings back happy memories of seeing them at Newcastle Uni 20 years ago.
The Sisters Of Mercy: First and Last and Always. Classic goth stuff, and surprisingly uplifting in places. And completely different to later releases.
Cardiacs: A Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window. Utterly bonkers but brilliant. A mix of punk, pop and fairground music, I played this until the tape wore out. Managed to find a copy on CD about a year ago and nearly wet myself. Recently found out that founder Tim Smith had a heart attack last year, which seems a little ironic.
Fields of the Nephilim: Elizium. Purely for the last two tracks alone, which are among my favourite things ever committed to disk. But the rest of the album is pretty good too.
Kissing the Pink: Naked. I just like it. Takes me back to my first year at college, when it was already a few years old.
Fleetwood Mac: Rumours. For no other reason that it reminds me of my mum - she played it constantly when it first came out and it's kind of stuck in my brain.
War of the Worlds. Because it's bloody brilliant. 'Nuff said.
The Dead Kennedys: Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. Has the best cover of Viva Las Vegas ever on it.
The Wonderstuff: The Eight-Legged Groove Machine. Their later stuff wasn't a patch on this, imho.

Same here with DK and Sisters of Mercy, but also
Nirvana: Unplugged - a lovely little album. It reminds me of my teenage years and I still love it now. Up there with Alice in Chains Unplugged as one of my all time favourites.
Korn: S/T (1st album) - still a stonking bundle of rage. I had this on tape when it 1st came out and thought it was brilliant then, and still great now.
Pearl Jam: Ten - I don't think any comment is needed.
Most Levellers and NMA: Each album suits a different mood, and although not all are great albums I think each one had at least 3 great tracks
All my best albums are stuck in one section of my CD collection for easy access.

Me like this question!
Massive Attack: Blue Lines
Counting Crows: August and Everything After
Blur: Parklife (Even though I cite Modern Life is Rubbish as my favourite Blur album.)
Jeff Buckley: Grace
Fairground Attraction: First of a Million Kisses
Fleetwood Mac: Tango in the Night
The Eagles: (some gretest hits or best of cassette I 'borrowed' from my mum.)
Pearl Jam: Ten
Belly: Star
The Breeders: Last Splash
Nirvana: Nevermind
The Cranberries: Everybosy Else is Doing it so Why Can't We?
EDIT: Squeeze: Singles (I AM my parents.)

Pixies - Doolittle
Faith No More - King For A Day... Fool For A Lifetime

Finch - Say Hello To Sunshine
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
EDIT:
ISIS - Panopticon

I don't really like (or dislike) finch but I did buy the t-shirt cos it's beautiful. Carry on.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:13, Reply)

I actually can't stand their other stuff.
They released this album and then split up. Possibly because their fans, on the whole, didn't like it.
*shrugs*

Crowded House: Best of
Hunters and Collectors: Under one Roof
Missy Higgins: Missy Higgins

fucking amazing band
I prefer the versions of half the songs on the Dark Third as they appeared on Bright Ambassadors of Morning.
Trivia time: my other half has known their current drummer for almost all her life.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 12:59, Reply)

I went to uni in reading and saw some guy with a T-shirt of theres on in a bar.
I said something along the lines of "dude they're amazing, and they're playing tomorrow!"
To which her replied,
"I know, im the drummer"
Me = Knob
P.s. I think I prefer Cautionary tales for the brave, but theres more songs on the full album
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:02, Reply)

I always forget what it's called
what sort of band person wears a t shirt with their own band on it?
weirdos.
they are all of the amazing. not heard much of the recent stuff. how is it?
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:06, Reply)

They lost a couple of members if my maths skills are up to the challenge so theres no live violin etc anymore
Its more electro-ish the new stuff and overall not so good as the first album but theres some corking tunes in there, Deus Ex-machina especially
Definately worth a purchase I say (but then I would as I love them)
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:10, Reply)

but what little I heard of the other stuff is along the lines of what you've said.
should probably buy it to support some talented people, particularly as I know one of them!
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:11, Reply)

I like the new one more every time I listen to it, cant be bad!
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:16, Reply)

Both great albums, especially being a fan of the originals.
Favourite song is "Let Down" with the guy from Toots and the Maytals! Absolutely amazing.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:02, Reply)

...dub band yet. Might have a looky for it this afternoon. I've got a bit of a thing for reggae covers of Beatles hits.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:57, Reply)

pink floyd - wish you were here (the title song is Mrs V and my song)
pink floyd - pulse
Concrete Blonde - Recollection (great band. vastly underrated)
Simon and Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Paul Simon - Graceland
Pure Reason Revolution - Cautionary Tales for the Brave (edited because I'm dumb)
most of these need no explanation

I had a copy which had an flashing LED in the spine.
Unfortunately it got stolen by pirates :0(

I love the DVD, the second half of the gig has to be the best ever staged surely
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:12, Reply)

I got the DVD because I was at the gig at Earls Court... Tripping my tiny little mind out.

Life in Cartoon Motion - Mika
Both Scissor Sisters albums
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:09, Reply)

I think I've gone through all 19 songs being my absolute favourite at some point. The range of styles and the passion is just astounding all on one record.
Pixies - Doolittle
It has Debaser and Monkeys Gone to Heaven for goodness sake. How can I not keep coming back!?
Radiohead - The Bends
Another of the very very few albums that you don't feel the need to skip songs. More for when I'm feeling a bit cathartic, or introspective, it really is a classic album.
Others include:
The Replacements - Let it be
The Ramones - The Ramones
Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Sex Pistols - Never mind the bollocks
The Manics - Everything Must Go (not their best but reminds me of being 12 again)...
Super Furry Animals - Guerilla
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:21, Reply)

Can't believe I forgot this!
"Radiohead - The Bends

Couldn't put it better myself.

Loving AOR since...
I'm listening to 'Ignoto' by yourcodenameis:milo right now - both of their albums are on heavy rotation round baz towers along with the last two The Mars Volta, Opeth and Tool records.
I only ever listen to music on the way to and from work anymore.
Satellite television is too expensive to not watch it every given opportunity.

I still can't decide which is more awesome. I'm leaning towards 10,000 Days at the moment, but they are both incredible
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:47, Reply)

For musical innovation, intensity, instrumentalism and general prog metal magnificence, I urge you to buy 'Ghost Reveries' by Opeth.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:54, Reply)

I have a number of Opeth albums, not sure which though as my other half got them...
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:55, Reply)

The opening track is magnificent but the real magnum opus is 'Beneath The Mire'.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 14:08, Reply)

I can't recommend it hard enough.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:56, Reply)

What I have heard I find a bit too straightforward and not quite proggy enough.
They supported Tool a couple of years back and I found them fairly forgettable.
Mind you, Cynic supported Opeth last year and I felt the same but have subsequently acquired and admired their album 'Traced In Air'.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 14:06, Reply)

Older albums, but this new one is pretty special.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 14:41, Reply)

Dj Shadow - Endtroducing
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Jeff Wayne's WOTW
Daft Punk - Homework
LCD Soundsystem - Fabriclive36 (Do mix albums count?)
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Self Titled
Toots & The Maytals - Funky Kingston
All on vinyl (except LCD) cos I'm a snob like that.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:51, Reply)

Interesting choice!
I like it, but I'm surprised. Any reason you prefer it to the others?
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 13:54, Reply)

Angel Dust is more complete as an album with better, more memorable songs, plus, lads of a certain age will equate that album with the zeitgeist that spawned Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Radioheads, 'The Bends', dEUS, 'Worst Case Scenario' and other such classics of an age in which MTV was occasionally watchable.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 14:11, Reply)

pretty much sums it up. I was 13, it was a huge album for me. Really opened me up musically speaking... Faith No More turned me on to a lot of other genres.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 14:18, Reply)

I'd forgotten about the age thing, to be fair, as I happened upon them fairly late by contrast.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 14:24, Reply)

You know, I've always found 'Discovery' eminently more listenable especially when chewing your face off.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 14:12, Reply)

when I'm full of beans like that any Daft Punk will make me cream my jeans.
( , Wed 1 Jul 2009, 14:19, Reply)

My 'go to' record when soaring with the angels.

Hailing from the lovely town of Macclesfield I used to see Jaimie around quite a bit.
I think he's moved to London now. They're still playing but health issues keep getting in the way.

Violent Femmes self-titled first album. A guitar, a bass, a single drum and a xylophone. Brilliant.
