There's a chance that I'll have a lot more free time on my hands in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking for stuff to keep me occupied should the worst happen. If it doesn't, then it's handy to have to watch on my commute each day, so don't hold back.
In recent months I've done True blood, Glee, 24 and I've just finished season one of Mad men. I'm thinking I should start the Wire after Mad men, but what else is out there that I should have sampled like a fine wine by now?

Finished the last season last year. I'll wait til they've all been shown before I watch them as I can't be doing with waiting week after week.

Apparently lots of the dead characters return.
I carnt wait.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:34, Reply)
I only watch what you suggest.
I'm still waiting for a Just Good Friends prequel.

You can watch them all on 4oD

are two long running favourites of mine. Well worth watching if you haven't seen them already.
My mrs watches stuff like 90210 and Desperate Housewives and in spite of myself I can't help getting drawn in :-(
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:14, Reply)
Do you drink orange juice and eat flaky pastries while you watch them?
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:16, Reply)
I loved it and then forgot about it.
I just can't commit to long term series. And box sets are no good because it's too much at once.
I need to just have re-runs of Only Fools on in the background.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:16, Reply)
But I miss the Trotters, so having it on is like my friends are back, in my living room.
See also Gilmore Girls.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:23, Reply)
I'm really not sure why I still watch desperate housewives. I think it's just habit. I will miss Ugly Betty a lot though :(
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:18, Reply)
5 series in and it's still brilliant.
Also, I watched an episode of Being Human last night, and quite enjoyed it, I'm going to give that a go next!

but can't bring myself to watch the show.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:28, Reply)
I only watch Hollyoaks, the news, HIMYM and occasionally the big bang theory. If i'm filling in time and there are scrubs repeats on I'll watch them, and sometimes those "World most dangerous drivers" type shows.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:20, Reply)
I just can't make the effort anymore.
Even while Glee is on I read a bit :(
I can't watch Hollyoaks any more either.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:22, Reply)
But if I have a night off from doing terribly important things then I watch 4OD or stuff that I've downloaded.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:24, Reply)
because it is amazing. I often turn over and catch the last 15 minutes.
I now have recordable Top Up so I should record it...
I watched two old episodes of Blossom on Youtube last week. I need help.

I watch it at home with the Mrs and thats fine, but I once tried to watch an episode while I was staying with my parents, and I got so embarrassed by how bad it was that I turned it off.

it's just dreadful
every storyline involves some finding something out, but getting the wrong end of the stick resulting in a month's long argument and feud over what could be sorted out with a single sentence of explanation.
other that or some scumbag does something scummy.
I'm all about suspension of disbelief, but it is just too shit for words. other than the ones I've just used. and any other swearwords

I'm happy to accept that giant space aliens have infiltrated our lives and only Will Smith can save us, but the idea that watching stupid poor people behaving like stupid poor people is entertaining makes me so depressed for the future of the human race that I can't stand to watch it.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:31, Reply)
It's got to the point where I'd rather watch 90210 than Hollyoaks, because it is more realistic. and that is saying something.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:33, Reply)
then that along with The Wire should be next.
I've also heard good things about The Shield. The West Wing was cracking as well.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 12:24, Reply)
and Grey's Anatomy is thoroughly entertaining as well.
apart from the shit bit with the ghost, that was just stupid. Izzy can fuck off

it was her brain tumour.
I love how bizarre these things are and when you explain the plot to people - She had a love affair with a heart patient that she tried to kill in order to save him but he died anyway and then his ghost turned out to be a brain tumour that she had and then she ended up marrying another doctor...
Daft! But ace.

and excellent programme over the weekend about the Nazis that escaped to Argentina at the end of the war, and another about the Taj Mahal, but I don't suppose this is the sort of tip you are after.
I saw 5 minutes of Glee: and it was utter, utter gay shit.
I was most suprised to find Gordon 'fucking' Ramsay's Indian series to be superb. He was quite humble and got stuck in, and slightly redeemed himself in my eyes. It was also quite informative.

Interestingly, Stalin accused the west of harbouring Hitler and maintained this until his death. When he (Hitler) couldn't be found at the end of the war there was a massive international hoo-hah (that's the technical term for it) because for ages no-one could find the body.
The parallels to the Jill Dando case were remarkable - although in this instance no halfwit who simply happened to live near Hitler's bunker was fitted up for it.

We've had this chat before but I was amazed at how decent a guy Gilmour is. I always had him pegged as a usurper but the work he put into Barrett's solo stuff simply to help out an old mate was really touching. All the music behind Barrett's acoustic ramblings on his solo LPs was added afterwards under the aegis of Gilmour. They had nightmares because it's all out of time.
Brilliant, brilliant records though.
(, Mon 1 Feb 2010, 14:13, Reply)
his 78 (I think) solo effort had some gems on it, and the Live in Gdansk performance is out of this world.
His guitar-gurning makes me feel better about my own as well.
I was unaware that he helped out with Barrett's stuff, what a nice chap.
One of the interesting things they were saying last night is that after Dark Side was so successful they were like "what next? we're rich and famous, that's the dream, now what?"
the answer is clearly: drugs, and more drugs!
this is where my band would fall apart.

you can still do that even if you got nowhere - just look at Winchester's premier psychedelic funk band 'Electric Head Funk'...

two of my band claimed to be giving up pot this year
needless to say they have collapsed under the relentless toking schedule set by our singer and I at band practices.
I fucking love that name. can't beat a good band name. At some point I intend to form a heavy metal folk band called the Crackhouse Ceilidh Band (if she lets me).

Kinda Louis Theroux meets Ready Steady Cook. I liked the bit where he was surfing from the back of the 2 ox. Some of the food looked superb, in fact I just had a brilliant curry for lunch. The Wee Curry House, as small as a small newsagents, sits about 12 people, kitchen right beside you. Everything cooked fresh, only £5.20 for 2 courses. Had to roll back to work.

And Supernatural is bad, but also so so good it's a little scary.

or westerns for that matter Firefly (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303461/) is most excellent, only 14 (+ a trailer) episodes were ever made (low viewing figures due to shite scheduling) but it developed enough of a cult following when released on DVD that a movie (Serenity) was created to finish off as much of the plot as possible. It's from the people who brought you Buffy, Angel and other similar shite, but having never liked either this is by far my favorite flying-around-in-a-spaceship-having-adventures-type thing.

Also Buffy (first four seasons), Babylon 5 and Quantum Leap if you didn't see those first time around.
The US remake of The Office is brilliant, just skip the first season as they hadn't quite figured out what they were doing back then.
Takeshi's Castle and Kenny versus Spenny are brilliant if you want a laugh without engaging your brain.
