What do you like to do with your time?
Any creative activities?

I quite like to write but I haven't for a while due to lack of inspiration, I also like the idea of sewing but I'm really no good at it.

Alt: what do you wish you could do?
I'd like to be able to sketch proper drawings and play the violin.
And make pretty pretty dresses.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 15:39, 116 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
I write a bit.
I sew to repair or alter clothes only.
I spend most my time alone reading, watching films or playing computer games.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 15:44, Reply)
Wish I was physically fit again. (I'm not ill - just old. That would be a good Zimmer frame sticker)
And could really play the sax.
Or cook to make other cooks jealous.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 15:45, Reply)
I used to be shit at sewing
I barely passed my Textiles GCSE, but now I can sew pretty well. It's not that hard really, the patterns you can buy make it all pretty simple, so you should definitely give it another chance.

EDIT: I don't have any free time because it is filled with sewing, dancing and studying. But those are three things that I enjoy, so I guess you could say I do them in my spare time. I also like to eat. I'm a fat person trapped inside a thin person's body.

sew all your tops to trousers to make it easier to decide what to wear.

(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:18, Reply)

BUMDER ALERT. BUMDER ALERT. EMERGENCY SITUATION INVOLVING A REAL-LIFE SUSPECTED BUMDER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL. TAKE ALL PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM BEING DRILLED.

THERE IS SOME SUSPICION THAT THE BUMDER MAY BE IDENTIFIABLE BY A FELLOW BUMDER UP TO HIS ELBOW IN THE PRIMARY BUMDER'S BACK PASSAGE. BE VIGILANT FOR SUCH A SIGHT; AT ANY RATE IT SHOULD MAKE IT FAIRLY FUCKING OBVIOUS. IN CASE OF THE SECONDARY BUMDER HAVING BEEN REMOVED FROM THE PRIMARY, ALSO BE VIGILANT FOR ANY OTHER SIGNS OF BUMDERISH BEHAVIOUR, PARTICULARLY THE FEEL OF A THROBBING ERECT MANPENIS NEAR YOUR RINGPIECE.

Bass guitarist
In a band and everything. I like to wax creative and write bad blues songs, and then make the band play them. Haven't managed to finish a song for a little while now though - annoyingly I had a good tune floating around my head on the way into work this morning but the slippery little bugger's disappeared now.

Alt Q: I wish I could sing properly.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:07, Reply)
Sing your 'bumder rant'....

(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:08, Reply)
YES!

(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:09, Reply)
That's supposed to be read in a Hatty Hayridge-esque monotone
It's an emergency announcement rather than a rant.

But since you asked...any preference on key?
"BUMDER ALERT,
BUMDER ALERT,
ALL BE FOREWARNED THERE'S A BUMDER IN HERE.
EMERGENCY,
EMERGENCY,
DROP WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING AND COVER YOUR REAR...."
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:12, Reply)
I imagine a droney Sabbathesque bassline behind you...

(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:15, Reply)
Ah, ok
I was envisioning myself crooning it to a tune not disimilar to "Edelweiss"...
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:16, Reply)
OK start again....
One two three four....
Edit - or you could do it with a megaphone like Mark E Smith and The Fall.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:18, Reply)
Would it work to the tune of "Iron Man"?
"BUMDER HAS BEEN SEEN,
YOUR ARSE CHEEKS HE'LL GET BETWEEN.
WARNING CALL TO ALL,
PRESS YOUR BACKS AGAINST THE WALL!

NOW THE TIME IS NEAR,
FOR THE BUMDER TO SPREAD FEAR,
VENGEANCE HE SHALL WREAK,
MERCILESSLY 'PON YOUR SEAT!"

Davros, dear boy, if it weren't for such important public service alerts,

(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:27, Reply)
That's crap - we also have a very good friend with cp
She spends most of her time in a wheelchair, but that hasn't stopped her having two babies. I have nothing but respect and admiration for her guts and determination. How mobile is your friend?
Salsa is very sexy - I tried a couple of classes years ago but have no co-ordination at all. These days my hips are covered in arthritis so walking's as good as it gets now and I have to use a stick if any terrain's involved. Still, red wine is an excellent anti-inflammatory ;o)
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:26, Reply)
The doctors tell her to use a walker but she refuses, she falls a lot but is generally very determined in everything
it's likely she'll have osteoarthritis in her 30's
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:36, Reply)
Surely a walker would not only redistribute the stress on her joints,
but also improve upper body strength? I'm thinking that increasing muscle tone could compensate for arthritic joints - how about using one occasionally on her worst days? I might well need one myself in the next 5 years - if I do I shall decorate/customise it in a punky, Vivienne Westwood style.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:48, Reply)
she refuses, it's not something we talk about because she's so insecure, but I suppose if she's getting around well enough she will continue to do so

(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:52, Reply)
Fair enough - it's her body.
Bless her heart - I hope she's not insecure because of her cerebral palsy, 'cause that would really suck. From the little you've said here she sounds ace. I wish her well.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 17:04, Reply)
I like to do the cookings.
This is handy, as I also enjoy the eatings. To combat the growings around the waistings, I also attend kung fu classes. My stance on writing is similar to yours (though you'd never guess it from the language so far in this post), though currently I have inspiration but no time thanks to the other time sink in my life: amateur theatricals. I used to draw a lot, but there's another thing that takes too much time.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:13, Reply)
I just wish I could continue what I've started
I have plenty of ideas for new shit but I never finish anything
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:19, Reply)
Set yourself a deadline.
A friend and I once sat in a pub garden, decided on an idea for a story and a deadline (I think it was about a month away) on which we'd trade tales and critique each other's scrawling. He didn't finish his, but the idea was sound.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 16:24, Reply)
I write quite a lot
but haven't had a chance for a few months, but I'm bad at any other creative stuff. As for other spare time stuff, I'm currently trying to formulate an idea and work it up into a policy

I would love to play the violin, and I wish so much that I could draw.

i play flute
but I wish I could do it better
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 17:57, Reply)
All sorts of things.
I like to make websites and be creative that way, I'm starting to develop iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch apps too, which will be quite fun once I've got my head around it.

And I love to cook, tonight I'm cooking...
- Pan fried macreal on a beatroot hash with a home-made mayo mixed with creamed horseradish sauce
- Pan fried liver on a onion-cholla-bread roll filled with aspagous, poached egg and liver (liver will be fried on a really hot pan so the outside goes crispy and the inside is pink).
- Pear and chocolate ice cream, or maybe rubarb and stem ginger... I've got both.

Not a single thing from a supermarket, except perhaps things like flour/eggs/oil..etc.

It's all a bit of an experment, I wanted to use poached duck eggs but I couldn't get any.

Heh, I think it would really work, I got the macreal idea from a few menus I've seen, including one at one of Ramsey's resturants.
It might not work, I'll have to see.
(, Fri 7 May 2010, 17:37, Reply)
I enjoy a bit of writing, both poetry and prose. I NEVER finish it though
and often find, months after the event, some passage I thought sounded good, but that couldn't fit into a story. E.g. today I chanced upon

"'Fetid scum!' he shouted. 'Filth-encrusted pisschunks from hell!'. The rabbits surrounding him looked bemused and twitchy. That was part of why he hated them, but only part. They also swore bloody oaths in whispering voices, changed shape wantonly and conspired about him behind his back.

He swayed angrily and gnashed his teeth with uncontained bile, flecks of saliva spilling forth. Attempting to crush one of the mangy rodents with his own body, he lurched forward, only to overbalance and fall face-first onto the floor. He was far too angry to give thanks to the padding of his surroundings that preserved his nose."

in my notebook.

I'm not sure I can remember. It was quite a while ago I wrote it.

I think it was one of those story ideas that fizzles out at "so there's this crazy guy, right...".

If I have any kind of specialty
It's starting up a new interest, putting in a little effort and becoming half decent at it and then suddenly geting bored of it and giving up.

There are too many to list, and still some that I guess I still put a reasonable amount of effort into, just not an obsessive amount.

What I wish I could put more time into is - exercise, football, bass guitar, electric guitar, playing in a band and cooking.

I spend far too much time watching TV, films and playing computer games.

A lesson in life
if you try something and aren't any good, give up and never try anything again.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
Then give up. There's no sense being a damn fool about it.

I'd really love to be able to play the piano well. I have a piano, so I should really learn to play it.

Being able to sing and write lyrics would be awesome too.
