Genuine 'Kids don't realise how easy they get it these days' moment.
The Commodore Amiga in particular had some of the most brutally difficult games ever. Another World, Flashback, Shadow of the Beast, Gods, Runestone, the list goes on and on. Not only were they particularly challenging, but the internet wasn't exactly prevalent in those days - never mind trying to find a walkthrough for said game. Your best bet was keeping your fingers crossed that the next issue of Amiga Format might throw a few merciful clues your way. Either that, or find somebody who's big brother was an absolute guru at that kind of stuff and watch how he did it. Without a doubt there are still games in the current generation that pose a challenge, but it's nothing like how it was in the 90's.

Another World was actually one of the rare completable games on the Amiga.
Walkthroughs wouldn't be useful for a lot of games as the difficulty was dexterity based. But I agree that games were way harder back in the day.

I broke so many things playing Shadow of the Beast and God's.
Rick Dangerous too. I must have only been about 11 or 12 at the time, but I'm pretty sure I cried with frustration at one point playing that fucking game.

Yeah, Rick Dangerous and Gods are great.
Shadow of the Beast, although brilliant, is fucking impossible.

BEAUTIFUL soundtrack though.
And utterly gorgeous to look at, as long as you don't try and make the mistake of getting anywhere with it.

It's almost as if they made a music and graphics demo, then tacked on the gameplay later.

You want hard? Try the pixel-perfect leaping of Hunchback on a Spectrum 48k.

Played an emulated version of this recently.
It still looks good.

I bought my PS4 for Witcher 3, which turned out to be a great move.
Once that was done, and Christmas rolled around, I asked for Fallout 4. Have since spent the last three months liquifying giant crab monsters as I look for just one more dirty ashtray.

All consoles are generally obsolete even before they are released.
Maybe PS4 owners should get a massive trade-in discount in this case.

I agree that PC is the way to go.
I was a staunch PC gamer for years. Every rig I've owned since the age of around 16 was home built. Unfortunately I just genuinely don't have the space for a PC & keyboard/mouse setup in my new digs so I've had to settle for a PS4. In Sony's defense, Fallout 4 is perfectly acceptable on the PS4 and as much as I'd love to own another desktop, I don't really feel the extra expenditure to make it fully 4k gaming capable is justifiable unless you spend a ton of time playing games, which I don't these days.

Yeah ha. A number of characters had the old head decapitation but I recall Sub Zero's original being awesome...he just sort of pulls their head right off.
