# I'm not into Lovecraft.
I've only read one or two of his stories, and most of my knowledge of Cthulu comes from pop culture references.

You're probably thinking of someone else.

Same for everyone. Lovecraft only wrote one early short story about Cthulhu and then forgot about it, never mentioning Cthulhu again. The whole palaver about it is entirely modern pop culture created, and not to do with the real original Lovecraft at all (who in fact built his mythos around a being called Yog Sothoth instead).
(, Sun 31 Jul 2022, 17:28, archived)
# I have never read any Lovecraft either
I know of the Necronomicon only because of the Evil Dead. also, Tolkien and Prattchett were cooler

# Likewise. I think it would be quite boring.
There are only so many ways to describe something as indescribable before things get a bit samey.

The one story I do recommend is the novella The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Its final published version was reworked and improved by its publisher August Derleth and it's a very good read. Very original and inventive. The Dreams in the Witch House and The Dunwich Horror are also good fun. Most of his other stuff isn't, the quality of the writing is uneven at best (and awful at worst) and it's full of racism. But do read Charles Dexter Ward, it's a good yarn.

V is 1, X is 2, S is 3 and C is 4. I would have thought more sensible keys would have been 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively.

# VIII was the beginning of the end for me. I’m not keen on that bishonen style.
I might have liked IX if there had been a PC release but nothing after that ever appealed to me.

# I'm still rocking the PS2
I'd recommend IX, X and XII if you ever downgrade.
(, Sun 31 Jul 2022, 19:08, archived)
# I don’t own a PlayStation. ‘Twas Nintendo then Xbox for me.
Either way, I don’t find moping androgynous characters to be all that appealing. I did play IX briefly but wasn’t all that impressed.

Fuck it, even VII is hugely overrated.
