I quit it when they ended my grace period of freedom. Turns out without it I am free to listen to whatever I like, whenever I like.
That's my main issue as a consumer. It deliberately makes life worse for its users, then tries to charge them for the freedom they had before they started using the app.
I don't understand why I should ever opt in to system like that. If there's any music or podcast that's exclusive to Spotify, obviously the producers don't want me to listen to it. They only want people who have been conditioned to give up their freedoms for imaginary convenience.
They are embracing AI music catered to the individual user, such as unlicensed AI remixes of music never intended to be remixed by an unthinking algorithm, etc.
They pay artists fuck all.
(, Fri 1 May 2026, 19:36, Reply)
But so are Apple, so are Amazon, so are Alphabet, so are Netflix, so are Microsoft (do they still even do music?)
For that matter, all the major record labels (who are heavy investors in Spotify, getting paid on the backend so they don't have to cut the artists in) are shitty corporations. There's no ethical consumption under Capitalism, so do your best.
Bandcamp doesn't do podcasts and Soundcloud is shite. The peak music experience was ripped .wmas and Last.FM radio via WinAMP.

Of the nasty companies you list, only Microsoft have any of my money, only because I own 2 computers bought from reputable retailers. Plenty of people live happy and productive lives with 'Activate Windows' in the bottom right of their screen. Some even use unix and linux.
Apple have nothing I need or desire in life. Their prices are hilarious, their supporters less so.
You don't need Amazon in your life at all. Support your local high street.
Google have fully enshittified, there are decent alternatives to every single one of their products and services (maybe with the exception of YT, but give it time).

that the people who promote equality of opportunity are winning the social popularity contest over the equality of outcome people.
As the doordash girl found out, screaming "I'm the victim" doesn't cut it these days.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2026, 12:35, Reply)
I imagine many of the people there, at least, those that aren't bots and troll farms, are aligned with the maga/elmo position of DEI as anathema.
Not sure how your doordash example relates, a woman falsely claiming sexual harassment, but getting charged with filming and distributing without consent in a private residence. Was she seeking some sort of equality of outcome?
(, Thu 30 Apr 2026, 15:46, Reply)
The doordash girl is pretty famous for screaming "I'm the victim" though, when she clearly was not.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2026, 16:29, Reply)
and as I understand it, the doordash woman entered somebody's home but claimed sexual harrasment when she saw a half naked bloke, which apparently he had a right to be as she entered his property. If he had stepped outside the house with his cock out to get the pizza, it might have been a different story. She did not have a right to film him and post it on the internet, which is unlawful distribution of sexualised images. So while you might find her Karen bleatings of victimhood satisfying as she gets her comeuppance, I still don't see how it relates to equality of opportunity or outcome.

I'm used to people not seeing what I do. Even people I see in real life have said that it took them years to figure out that I make valid, if obscure, observations, usually much earlier than anyone else is able to see the connection. I do use odd expressions when they are apt. I have no worries being odd, I've interacted with people that aren't...
As an aside, I did a psychological personality test once out of curiosity, it said I was an expansionist creative.
"Excels at combining seemingly unrelated concepts, technologies, or artistic styles to forge something entirely new. Possesses a relentless drive to consume diverse information. Is willing to fail, embracing the "mad genius" stereotype by navigating the fringes of convention and taking risks that others avoid. Connects disparate dots and identify gaps in knowledge to create new insights.".
You seem to want to be offended, but you also don't seem certain why. Just call me something, insult my intelligence, call me arrogant or whatever, label me for convenience, and we can short circuit all this and get on with other, more important, things. I'll leave you with a question though. What are elections other than a social popularity contest? Job interviews? Dating? Even something like the concept of good and evil if viewed in the right way. It's a much wider concept than social media or parties. There are many other examples, some unspoken, some explicit.
Your description of what happened regarding Doordash girl is quite accurate. Those are indeed the events as they seem to have happened. I'm sure she expected a different outcome.

I did a psych test for one job. Came out as something like "diligent, detail-orientated, and goal focused", which was true as far as researching the night before the psych test they were going to administer, but otherwise almost completely opposite to my personality.

If you want them to make sense, you have to feed them. Get an AI, feed it what you want it to help with; for example "research all tax documents for Barnsley in 1979", then ask it questions about that. If it is still playing retard, tell it, and explain that you want a specific search. I do mean that you literally tell it it is being retarded, it'll help you refine your search. All computers are stupid. They need help.
Oh, and use an AI that doesn't store your stuff unless you tell it to.
(, Wed 29 Apr 2026, 23:41, Reply)
that the AI sometimes does not understand very basic sentences and does the opposite. Wilfully so I would say, if they had a will.
One would think that one capability of a large language model you could rely on would be to follow simple, basic things said in a language.

So after getting my arse fully roasted by you lot for posting a video made with AI, I thought I'd go balls deep and post this cover / remix of my 2014 tune called 'Monkey' that I made. So the computer thing told me it thought the tune needed a electro-swing jazz treatment, and who was I to argue with the digital gods. Anyway its sort of annoyingly great and irritatingly terrible in equal measure, but in recompense for making a video with AI I'd like to extend the olive branch of peace and harmony to anyone perhaps interested in making a suitably idiotic video to go along with it.

You're absolutely right there are many questionable reasons as to why, but not withstanding that I enjoy the experiment and re-interpret ideas, 99.9 times out of 100 its complete rubbish, but I don't get hung up on AI being an invalid form of artistic(?) expression. My music as such has always been written on a computer, generated from voice synths, keyboards samples & loops, and this is just an iteration thereof.
(, Wed 29 Apr 2026, 11:56, Reply)
I also don't dismiss it entirely tbh. Most of the hardcore haters haven't actually tried to generate anything themselves (or tried with a single sentence instruction and failed horribly). Was genuinely curious why an artist would do that - you're not the only one I've asked but the answers vary immensly. Thank you for your contribution to the survey.
(, Wed 29 Apr 2026, 12:21, Reply)
Indeed I must stop doing that! I also speak fluent (or effluent) management speak, of not having enough bandwidth and circling back to the proposition in hand. Its interesting that actually AI is homologating the English (not limited to) language so that at some point it will become its own identifiable dialect.

If you're going to use AI to generate a cover of your own track, it's better to describe in detail the sound you have in mind instead of clicking suggestions, and set it to max similarity. If it preserves the chord changes, bass lines and melody, at least you can claim some ownership.
Top producers already use AI behind the scenes. They just don't talk about it
(, Fri 1 May 2026, 20:31, Reply)
A top producer already has intelligence. A top producer enjoys the work of production. What you're describing is a hack.
(, Sat 2 May 2026, 3:03, Reply)
But oh boy this is testing. By all means use AI for boring/routine tasks but making music? It's the endless "it's just a tool", "you're just luddites even though I don't know what the Luddites were" that is tiresome, patronising, insulting. Why not spend the time arguing yourself into knots if self-justification on having fun making something instead? "Who was I to argue with the digital gods?" is like Elon Musk getting Grok to give him a sense of humour. And cap it off with "make a video for me"? Entitled to Prince Andrew levels.
(, Mon 4 May 2026, 10:08, Reply)
and I guess I kind of still am, minus the Black Mirror nightmare elements. I don't want the ethical burden of killing a self aware computer process.
I'd still quite like my DAW to 'learn' my style of working and facilitate a faster workflow, I guess contextualised searching of MY samples and whatnot could be useful too, but that's about as far as I'd be willing to go.
I'm sure the 'best' prompters have to learn a few useful technical terms. Not exactly ABRSM Grade 8 though, is it. Not even grade 7 Music Theory, though I'm sure having that would help. Somehow.
