QoTW replies
Is there any chance that the replies on QoTW could be formatted as they are on the other boards, so that, as the conversations flow, we can keep track of what's replying to what?
Sorry. That was horribly inarticulate.

Can we have a rule for qotw
that when you post an anecdote you don't abbreviate people's names to a single letter? It's like reading a bloody algebra equation. If you don't want to post people's real names, make up a fake one or use a lolarious nickname. Stories like "then Tubby Bitch tried to kick Durnoid" are much easier to read than "then B tried to kick M". We don't use single letters to identify people in real life, so when you do so it's hard to keep track of.

Pun watch
It'd be great to collect up the pun threads, there's a couple a day. Maybe like the sick joke book.

Spoiler tags
If people want to discuss the plot twists in a film/game/book/programme that's just come out, and there are too many of them to keep it as a gaz conversation, spoiler tags would be very handy. If you typed <spoiler>text</spoiler>, anything between the tags would render as highlighted in black, so people wouldn't be able to read it unless they highlighted it. Should be a simple css thing; just change the text background from transparent to black.
I'm quite grumpy about having every fucking Doctor Who episode spoiled for me before I get a chance to watch it.

When looking people's profiles...
...Trying to gauge their personality and writing ability, It's nice to see their top stories...
BUT... when clicking on "see all their posts" it sucks to see each and every inane "reply" that has been posted. Is it possible to cut that out?

'own post marker' bug
The grey line (left side) that is supposed to indicate where your own post is located is going mental. See screenie here: www.totalleh.com/non/bug_ownpost.gif
and I've checked, they are not listed as 'friends' (nor are the ones without the grea bar)

ignore button modification.
instead of having all the posts by the person just disappear, how about having their text replaced by lyrics from "row, row, row your boat"? still kill the images, of course, as they're often what prompt the ignoring (or replace the to-be-ignored image with a stock image from b3ta, or one of a set of images from a file).
i'm prompted to this suggestion by a post by skug, in his reply to a pic by zank frappa.

Bug: disappearing images
For some reason, the top image on the main board, friends' activity board and compo board doesn't appear: I just get an image-sized expanse of grey - not even a redex. The same happens if I click to see a thread on its own.
Things reappear when a new thread begins, or if I press f5 a gazillion times and I'm really lucky. Does anyone else get this, or is the problem at my end?

Maybe the option to have a thread watched.
So if you get a reply you get an e-mail.
I realise this could put even more of a strain on the server, mind.

Further to Afinkawan's suggestion,
www.b3ta.com/questions/bugs_and_feature_requests/post65180
I propose a general-purpose 'moron filter', similar to the swear filter, which would correct stupid spelling/grammatical errors, force extended passages in full caps into small case, and convert idiotic internet-speak into something more palatable, communicative and maybe even educational.
Examples:
"fail" might become "oops"
"definately" might become "Oh dear, I can't spell 'definitely'!"
"LOL" might become "an improvising saxophonist born in 1932"
"LMAO" might become "Chinese military and political leader (1893-1976)"
"[xyz] is shit" would become "I'm trying to fit in with the cool people, but I really think [xyz] is brilliant"
Racial imprecations would become "Look at me, I'm trying to court controversy! I'm so ironic! LOOK AT ME!!!"
and "lolz/lulz" really ought to become "HEY EVERYONE, I'M A MASSIVE WANKER!"

2 or 3 questions below...
...I replied with this... but as I'm a narcissistic pedant, I thought I'd post it here too.
I rekon the old question should be taken down and a new blank shiny page put up... saying
"There'll be no question until we've had 500 votes on the "new question suggestions". Pick one of the many pages and read the suggestions. Click if you like. this may take WEEKS... but at least bastards like Humpty will stop whining"
EACH week.
EVERY week.

Joint Front Page awardship!
Is there any way that all contributors to an FP could get it to appear in their profile?
The Queen and Carla Bruni swinging Nicolas Sarkozy that I animated is as much the work of God Save The Queen as it is mine (his original idea/shop, my animating of it) So it'd be nice if in this instance the FP award (which we all strive so hard for and adore) could go in both profiles.
I'm sure this isn't the first or the last time a joint effort makes the front page, so it'd be nice if some code was available to make it happen, even if it was hidden away and had to be requested each time.

What about this?
There needs to be something done to stop QOTW regulars moaning each week about the choice of question. So the best way is to put the choice in their hands. But thats too open and a question would never get picked. So hows about the choice is halfway between the regulars and the administration?
I mean, its all very well saying that people need to look through the suggestions and click I like this loads, but there are so many pages on there its hard to wade through. How about each week, when the new one i picked, there is a poll in the top header with a selection of like 6 from the top suggestions. Then each week when 6 top suggestions are picked out, the vast number of people who read the weekly QOTW copared to the smaller numbers that visit the suggestions baord will be able to pick out a decent one? That way no-one can moan as the regulars are picking exactly which sounds best to them?
And by putting in a poll, i don't mean a full 6 suggestions, just a 5-6 word summary with a linkto the original suggestion...
Whaddya reckon?

Would it be at all feasible
to keep track of the links (particularly news links) that have been posted within a particular time frame, and provide the poster with the knowledge that said link has already been posted two hundred times in the last hour? Something akin to "This link is already on the board. Are you sure you want to continue?"

A New Threads view
For the main board in profiles, so you can easily find someones pic submission without trawling through all their main board posts.
(Similar to the "including xx links" option in relation to the /Links board.)
And a separate conspiracy/religion forum, please....

How about a "comments" section in peoples profiles...
that will allow others to post their thoughts about the user?
This will help people decide on who to and who not to let into their little cliques by reference of their peers;)

Image elements challenge
I reckon it'd be cool if we had an image challenge whereby a certain amount of images say 6 or so are selected each week from which users must create their own single, funny image. The images to be used could be selected in the same way as QOTW's with a suggestions board containing low file-sized versions of images people think would be interesting to use which can be voted on each week.

BUG: WMV player autoplaying and no video controls + no editting available
I have reported this bug over and over, but apparently no one notices:
After you post a link on /links, you can't re-edit the URL field. It gives no precise error message, but the old URL stays in place. I experienced this today again in this link: www.b3ta.com/links/Ben_Folds_Zak_and_Sara_Finished_videoclip_by_me
Which brings me to the second problem: when posting WMV links, some people experience no video controls and always autoplaying (not just when you click the topic name). In result, the video always starts playing when they refresh /links, which in turn ruins the fun.
Please, b3ta, fix this.
Cheers.

Image challenge
I have noticed that the "Popular" section of any image challenge will rarely change dramatically after saturday.
I think it's because a lot of people (including me) look at the populars, then click some of the images, ensuring them a prolonged high rating.
Is it maybe possible to disable the "I like this!" button for the "Popular" section?
This could probably prevent that some really good images never get to the "popular" page, just because they haven't been posted early on?
Makes sense?
