After many years (about 9 I think) in the musical wilderness and not playing in a band (nasty punk guitarist) I am now the lead singer in a Joy Division tribute band!!!
I've never sung in a band before with the exception of some dodgy backing vocals, although I can do a mean version of 'Love will tear us apart' and 'Shadowplay'
And I'm from Macc, just like Ian Curtis.
I'm a little nervous but strangely excited :0)

What's is your earliest memory?
Mine is my little sister being born, less because of her and more because I got my first ever chocolate advent calendar!

So here's the scenario(s). I live in Melbourne now/at the moment, and since I've been here I've tried to adobt a very positive 'yes I will' attitude. Not that I previously had a negative attitude, but I'm a tad lazy and probably play a tad too much Football Manager. So I figure new place, new start, let's try lots of new things and say 'yes!' a lot more, and it's going pretty well.
I went to the doctor today, nothing serious - thanks for asking, and then went to the pharmacy at the bottom of the mall to get my prescription. And who should be working there but only the hottest girl I've ever seen. I tried to to position myself so that she would serve me, but to no avail. Then, she left and the counter and when she came back I'm pretty sure she looked at me then smiled when I looked back. I'm *sure* she did.
Now, while I've been here I've very much tried to play the cheeky/charming 'hey check out my accent' card and it's worked ok, at a New Year party in particular, but I've never been very good at the approaching a random sort of chat up/meeting girls type of things, and as a result I don't go on many dates (do people even do that?). My new found 'accent confidence' has inspired me in a fuck it kind of way to go back in and ask her out or give her my number.
Questions. Girls, has this ever happened to you? Do you like it? Do I sound weird? I plan to keep it light and funny and fully expect never to go back to that shop if i'm knocked back.
Guys, ever tried it? Did it work? Any good approach ideas?
Hey, I figure if people do this sort of thing in American sitcoms all the time then it must be ok to do it in real life. I mean why would they lie to me?

I bought Dad tickets to go and see Blur at Hyde Park on July 2nd. One slight problem though, he's on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. I really should have checked first. So, who wants to go see Blur with me?
/Edit
Oh yes, you have to think of a reason why you want to go and see Blur.
Best one wins.

You're going to have to do much, much better than that guys.

advisor woman has come to school and said that, amongst other things, we are focusing on the wrong aspects of literacy.
One of the answers below is what I do focus on at the moment, one is her suggestion.
I'd be interested to hear what you lot of grammar freaks think. Click the one you think is most important in primary (5-11) literacy.
*edit* Sentence structure means good vocabulary choice and getting the words in the right order.

have just found a 1983 statutory instrument (like a baby act of parliament) that refers to companies being stripped of their "asses" instead of "assets".
also i am going to the cinema tonight. managed to type "coo, i am excited!" instead of "cool". so now i sound like one of the famous five.
and a colleague when i was an estate agent managed to type "classic propertities" instead of "properties".
what amusing typos have you come across in your line of work? and if none, who would you rather shag, al or bert?

I heartily recommend you go and see This Film as it's fucking spectacular.
Clint Eastwood is absolutely phenomenal in it, with a great supporting cast too! The girl who plays Sue is surely a star for the future.
Go now!

When you visit a website which appears to have finished loading, but then just as you're about to click a link something else at the top finally loads and the entire page shuffles down causing you click on a different link or even an ad.

Going up to Teesside at weekend with the wife and kids to visit a friend. Are there any good attractions open we can go visit? Preferably in a 40 mile radius of Billingham (in any direction), but not including the Nth Yorkshire Moors because we've exhausted that option in the past.

I will be pouring myself a glass of orange squash. But the thing is, you see, I have four different brands to chose from. So this is where you come in. Use the poll-thingy below to vote, and whichever option gets the most votes will be the one I end up drinking.
