Morning all
Tuesday: that day that is better than Monday for some reason, but still so far from next week that it makes me a little sad.

Highlights of your Tuesday anyone?

(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 8:02, 390 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
Mornin'
My highlight is discovering the b3ta bash pics were taken out of the b3ta bash pool by the pool-admin coz I didn't add any captions.
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 8:16, Reply)
Well, it's now two days to payday
Thank Christ that I have enough food and tobacco to last. I am, in the local parlance, completely brassic.

Morning all
I've got to wait until Monday to get paid. A weekend with no cash is not something I look forward to. How will I be able to buy alcohol and pay my loose women?
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 8:58, Reply)
Highlights today
will include blogging away for a couple of hours, getting home and trying the bloody Sky Temple on Zelda again. Top tip - do not try the bloody Sky Temple on Zelda after a couple of Strongbows.
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 9:04, Reply)
Brew your own?
Alcohol, not women, that is. That would just be silly.
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 9:05, Reply)
Common
apparently.

Morning all!

Good to hear you're no longer ill
I went to a brilliant comedy club thing last night called the Smirking Room at the Adelphi pub in south Leeds. It was brilliant, although the last comedian was a little... odd. That is, he was a raving transvestite in lipstick.
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 9:24, Reply)
Ipecac?
I thought I'd caught tramp-rot, I was really worried!

We were having a band practice last night and I had to go outside to throw up between each song...

*shakes fist*
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 9:26, Reply)
Piston
that sounds like awesome. I once saw a transvestite stand up that made no reference to dressing like a woman, just deadpanned his/her way through the entire show. Made the whole thing even more funny.

I've got a slow day ahead of me.
Anyone got exciting stuff happening?

Oh, except I'm meeting TGB for lunch :)

The pictures from Saturday look good, seems everyone had a great night!

Oh Kaol, why were you vomiting so much? Was it something you ate?

@ Lucy
I look hammered, but I wasn't that bad:(

And hello to everyone!
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 9:36, Reply)
Morning LvP!
Those pics need to have names put to them. I can recognise a few folk, but others remain a mystery ;)

Edit: And g'morning BK too!

TGB?
*jealouses*

I've got to send two emails today.
And make one phone call.

Hmmm...
Exciting stuff!
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 9:39, Reply)
Me too Lab
I recognise a few people, about half I'd say, but the rest are a mystery.
Oh BK, I have every faith that you weren't hammered. ;P
Ha.

@ Lucy
Well, ok - I'd had a few.

Saturday night
God, I was hammered too... I don't remember much about the train journey home. Was great seeing everyone though, without exception the new faces I met were all lovely folk. I must thank Wanderlust again for her excellent cakes.

LvP - I thought you were coming to the bash?

Sunday was a write off though. I woke up with sore ribs and managed a grand total of two climbs on Sunday. I'm getting too old for boozy nights out.

Piece of advice
Don't ever skip breakfast, you'll just end up feeling ill.
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 9:43, Reply)
Gaaah
It's becoming a bit of a theme this - photos of me with my eyes shut. On the other one, it looks like I'm wearing lipstick. Maybe I was... I can't remember a great deal about the end of the night!

Morning all!
(, Tue 21 Oct 2008, 9:43, Reply)

I couldn't go in the end. Next time I'm in London I'll see if anyone wants to meet up. I'll hopefully be around for Becky's birthday do at the end of Nov.

Just the door?
I guess you could go to a scrap yard, get a new door and not go through insurance.

That'd cost you a bit, but nowhere near as much.

Also helps if the car is a common colour.

That wanderlust is a full on fittie in her owl hat.

Also, morning all.

go through the insurance. Most policies, especially ones on company cars, offer a replacement vehicle for the damaged party.

That way, Mrs Al gets £500 in her pocket and a shiny new car to drive around in until it's sorted....

You could bake a cake and leave it at reception for him, if you know where he works.

What he won't realise is that the main ingredient, after flour and eggs is the stingy-bits from ten thousand bees :D

To be fair, you've not gotta be allergic to bees for my idea to work, it'll still be fucking funny.

EDIT: Mr. BK, good Sir, you are quite correct!

Hello Cap'n V

Hows the captain?
I'm not bad. Go back to work a week tomorrow but have to use buses to get there. That wont be fun.

On the brightside I've got the forms to fill out to reapply for my driving licence sitting right next to me but I can't apply for another 3 weeks yet.

Otherwise I'm rather grand.

:edit: What am I thinking - I have bourbons for breakfast. Life is fucking damn cunting awesome!

Morning all!
I have joined the world of work again...

Today's task (I'm guessing it'll take more than a day!) is to set up a new Windows Server 2003 forest and begin migrating an NT4 domain to it, since I know you were all eager for details!

Not exactly my idea of fun, but it pays the bills...

(PS: I am the artist formerly known as a Dr Seuss character, not that you probably knew me when I was called that...)

@ Ethelred - I can tell that's a voice of experience speaking, doncha just love Active Directories?!

I did a bit of work here a few years ago and was responsible for commissioning the Exchange 2003 server, and a Win2k file server, so I have some idea what I'm letting myself in for... just seems stupid to be running those in an NT4 domain, if I upgrade the DC to Server 2003 I should be able to run the whole network without even leaving my desk. (that's the theory anyway)

Gah, I logged on here to take my mind off all this techie bollocks, apologies all!

I just rang the dentist to see what time my appointment is on friday. Apparently it's in ten minutes. As I am still nekkid and it's a 15 minute drive I would have to rewrite some of the laws of physics to get there on time. Anyway I don't think having a numb face would work to my advantage in my job interview.

Still, on the plus side, if I get called for an interview for the job I really really really want it will be on friday. So no numb face for me then! Hurrah.

Also Walkers salt and vinegar, my ex, and I was going to say wholegrain mustard but now have to think of something original ... er... hummus.

Someone I knew lived in Holland for a while and told me about a cooperative pub the locals had set up. There was no landlord, everybody ran it. It worked well.

@Lusty, bosses suck. Another piece of advice: when doing something against the rules that everybody does, don't get caught. And if you do, don't tell the manager everyone does it and then refuse to name names. The boss will be humiliated that he can't control his staff and make a shining example out of you :(

Edit: in reply to Vipros, I've had nothing but trouble with Acer. Made the mistake of buying a few of their screens for work as they were cheap, about 40% were DOA and nearly half the rest broke in the first few months! All their stuff seems really plasticky and poorly made.

My sister went through three Acer laptops before settling on a Toshiba, which has lasted longer than the three Acers put together.

YMMV

(note: I'm back in my old job now and am responsible for buying £10-12k of IT equipment a month, so I like to think I know what I'm on about. I'm a great believer in the saying 'buy once, cry once' - i.e. don't buy the cheapest one, it will cost you more in the long run!)

yeah, basic stuff. We worked out that our eldest borked the Dell with something called "e buddy". Appears to be a chat type thing - which we've now blocked. Little sod.

It'll probably be January (when Mummy gets a great big bonus *fingers crossed*) and probably around £300 - £400.

I've got 14 HP laptops under my remit
And none of them have gone wrong since we bought them.

Out of 65 HP Compaq desktops, I've had two hardware problems in four years.

As I said, YMMV, and HPs will break sometimes, but I definitely think they're more reliable than Acer.

Yeah, blocking spyware and viruses etc will be a big thing
Need to be absolutely bullet proof for most adults, let alone kids!

January will be good as I expect a few of them will make it into the sales (prices will have changed so much by then it's barely worth me recommending one)

But, my recommendations:

Get a Toshiba or a HP (preferably Toshiba)
Get an Intel processor one, not an AMD
Buy a copy of Norton Ghost and image the hard drive after you buy it, then rolling back to pre-borking will be far easier!

You could even look for something second hand/refurb/ex lease, you don't need that high a spec to do basic internet things. And spend the balance on Net Nanny type software and such.

The review claimed it felt more like a Bourne film than anything else, which is good in a way as the trilogy was ace, but was lacking the James Bond feel. Still, if it's half as good as Casino Royale I'll be chuffed, that was excellent. And lets face it, it can't be worse than the last 2 Pierce Brosnan did.

As for the Dark Knight I loved it, well the first two hours anyway, up until the threw two-face in. That was a waste. Looking forward to the Watchmen though :D

I can't believe I'm coming down to Leam and you're not even going to be there Kaol. I thought you loved me. :(

Wait...do you even stay near there?!

No...
I live about half the country away from Leam...

Haha!

lol@Ethel
All our passwords seem to be birthdays or people's internal phone numbers. Not much computer nous here, apart from the 16 year olds who try and use proxy servers to get past my internet blocking...

I'm sorry for ever doubting your love!

Still, it's a bit rude that Kaol isn't making the effort.

He must have something else on, surely?

Miasma - I ordered it! Yay! *exciteds*

Isn't it clendrix?
And yeah Kaol what "special plan" do you have?

Actually wait...don't answer.

I just dropped my cigarettes under the table and went down to get them but bumped my head on the table coming back up again. Bastards.

I've just realised that, because I didn't go out anywhere at lunch, I've been sat in this seat since 8.30 this morning. I've not even had a ciggie today.

Any more time in a chair and you could stick some wheels on me and call me Hawking =(

Well...
All I'm gonna say is that my plans involve London, alcohol, female company and a heavy, blunt object.

Why do so many of my stories start like that?

Nicely done, I just change the gateway and use the email broadband line (aka the one without the filter over it) There are some benefits to being the IT department...

Yay clendrix! I'm jealous, it's better than my laptop!

When I contacted the IT guy, he says that what he has and he loves it.

Thank you!

Eventually I'll get rid of my old laptop but I'd like to give it away if possible. Is that safe? Can everything be cleared off it?
