I've been wasting time on Facebook
Yes, I know it's the cause of all evil in the Western world but I was looking up people I went to school with. OMG! They've got really, really bloody old! A couple I would never have recognised because they've turned into old ladies.
I know I'm someone's mum, but dear god...this women are middle aged.
Shit.
That means I am too.

What has shocked you lately, or just today?

I was laughing at some pictures from friday's hawaiian night earlier.

(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:39, Reply)
I had the same thing happen the other day
They all look middle aged!

This made me feel old, until I was asked if I was over 25 when I bought scissors
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:40, Reply)
I had someone refuse to chat to me in a pub
because she thought I was in my early twenties and therefore had nothing of any interest to say.
This made me feel good for at least five minutes until I remembered that it was quite dark in there. Sadly this was also about five years ago.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:45, Reply)
that's quite an attitude she's got there
I think I might take it on. I shall refuse to speak to anyone younger than me, unless they are both male and hot
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:49, Reply)
I'd do this
but I think pretty soon I'd run out of people to talk to and also I'd get the sack from work. Students tend to be younger than me.

I like to look at facebook pictures of people I went to school with

I would love to do that
but neither myself nor anyone I know has the first clue about car maintenance. And it's not like you can really call out the AA when your engine has fallen out in Azerbaijan or some such. Plus money, time etc, and haven't they introduced a silly rule now that you can only take a car that's less than 10 years old?
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:56, Reply)
Yeah, I did it the year before the ten year rule came in.
It was the best thing I've ever done, ever. I didn't know much about mechanics but convoyed with people who did. Do it!

BGB does look great
She looks far, far better than the majority of my ex-classmates...and she's older.

Mind you, almost all of the girls I was at school with started smoking at about 12 or 13. I didn't because a)I was a goody two-shoes and b)I was frightened my parents would throw me out if I smoked.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:56, Reply)
So did you just set yourself on fire quietly?

(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:59, Reply)
Nope
Never.
I did try when I did a fine art degree when my sons were babies. I was crap at smoking though - never learnt to inhale so I gave up after about four fags.

(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:11, Reply)
I know exactly what you mean
There's a few folk I've seen on Facebook who I haven't seen since we were in our teens. Now they're knocking on 40 with double chins, baldy heads and wrinkles.

I like to think that the years have been relatively kind to me, but maybe I'm just kidding myself. :-/
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:55, Reply)
I saw a monster of a woman on Bold Street last week
She was like wotserface who has hairbuns and wears an 'orny 'elmet.
She looked a bit younger than my mum (50).
Then I realised... she was in the year below me at school.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 15:57, Reply)
Eeek!
That's the scary thing - when you realise they're YOUNGER than you!
Some people reach their peak in their teens and then just go downhill. It looks like they've given up and given in. Sad.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:00, Reply)
To be honest, she always had a face like Babyface Finlayson
and she was always a mountain of a woman.
Only now she's also got a big red weathered face.

10 babies?

(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:01, Reply)

Dodging paternity tests left and right.

Although 2 of the girls had babies before they left school, yet they seem to have been the most sensible. One of the fathers is dead, he was killed last year, he was about a month younger than me, not good.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:03, Reply)
No!
You're not at your peak! If you are then it's all downhill from here on! Another sixty-odd years just going downhill? Bugger that for a game of soldiers.

I got chatted up by a 49-year-old on Friday.
I found her really rather attractive: clearly I also am old. I was also round these chaps' flat last night, and one of them called me a 'silver fox'.

:(
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:00, Reply)
Proper cougar that.

(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:01, Reply)
Yep,
She told me she had a daughter of 18, who was embarrassed about her and her 'cougar mates'.

The thing is, she was really well dressed and rather nice looking, and the only intelligent person I spoke to all night. She was also pissed out of her mind, in a Dalston bar, on her own on a Friday night...
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:04, Reply)
Intelligence often becomes the most important thing
I dated a lovely chap a couple of years back who was ten years younger than me, very fit, good looking, entertaining and so on...sadly thick as two short planks. The jokes and flirting can't last forever, a good conversation can.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:09, Reply)
You should have gone for it,
she'd have ruined you.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:21, Reply)
I'm ruined already.
I am slightly regretful but she was so pissed it would have been taking advantage and I already have enough guilt in my life to cover most of Germany as it is.

(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:09, Reply)
I was once told David Tennant, I was quite happy with that.
Then I found out they didn't mean him as the doctor, they mean him as Barty Crouch.

Bastard.

I'm starting to notice
the mother, rather than the daughter. I think that more than anything is an indication of advancing years.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:02, Reply)
maybe you can explain
as you get older, do your standards slip and you start fancying older women more, or do you still gawp at 20 year olds, but settle for women your own age?
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:17, Reply)
You start fancying older women more
You don't stop noticing the young ones, but it does become a bit creepy after a while.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:19, Reply)
Same for women
You begin to notice the older men who look good - surprisingly there aren't that many who both look good and have intelligence. The younger ones you end up feeling rather maternal towards. Youth also becomes less attractive at the lower end because it's all soft and peachy - I prefer men who have seen a bit of life. Experience is where it's at.
Mind you, if you'd asked me that when I was in my teens or early 20s I'd have said old men were creepy and young fresh teens were where it's at.

I'm glad he's now got fuck all (in compairson), can't think of anyone who deserves his fortune taken away from them more, more-or-less.
Although I'm suprised the DM is calling a 5-bed place a mansion, or that a building (even in that condition) would only be worth £142k; you couldn't get a studio 'round my way for that dosh, absolute bargin, even if it does need gutting.

It's sad that a shitload of money got pumped into the local criminal comunitie because of him, which goes completely against the whole ethos of the lottery.

How do you squander £9.7 million?
the interest payments alone would be a 6 figure sum (even after tax).

(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:51, Reply)
I don't care who you are, nobody breathes for too long with a drug habit that bad.
Even if he's on the skag on a long term basis, at most you're looking at is £250/day, a £50/bag I *think* lasts a good 5 hours, plus he ain't takin' it 24/7 'cus he has to sleep at some point, where he wouldn't be shooting up, which would add up to less than £100kpa.

I expect he was bankrolling his mates

(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 17:05, Reply)
I know someone with that sort of cash, won't have any trouble finding 'mates', and that he's had a pretty fucking big bankroll.
But still, it's a bit much to say he (and co) snorted or hardlined the lot of it.

I reckon a lot of it would be gone on bad investments and compensating people for doing stupid things. Personally, if I was one of his neighbours, I would have sued him for my own property value dropping.

I'm shocked that nobody here misses me
Well, no really, I was expecting it.

All my school friends (or most of them) look awsome on facebook, even the ones that have been mums. I had troble to recognize a lot of them because they're so pretty and they look so young! I don't think I look as well as they do.

I've missed you
just this morning I was thinking "where's my spaniard?" and then I remembered you have a job you enjoy now, grrr.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:31, Reply)

It should last only a couple of months. I still read and visit in the eves and weekends, but nobody is here at that time.

How are you doing?

How are the preparations for Australia going?
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:39, Reply)
We've just got to save up for it now
but we're going to Tenerife in September so we can't really start saving for the Aus holiday before we've saved and been on this one.

Doesn't mean I can't get really excited about it though. I'm going to try really hard to save the extra £500 for scuba diving lessons.
(, Mon 9 Aug 2010, 16:47, Reply)
When in September?
I'm going to Menorca for a week beginning of September. I'll be sure to face Tenerife (which will be fookin' thousands of miles away) and wave at you.

I feel all accomplished, rather than a normal day where I spend a good chunk of it on here.

That's not to say it'll become a habit, in fact after this training's sorted I'll be back here (yes I'm aware I'm prompting a lot of "Fuck off, we don't want you" replies).
